Folks, In Australia the GMH V8 Commodore was used by gangs when they held up banks, stores etc.. as a getaway vehicle because the police could not catch the car due to its amazing power and handling. Unlike a Chevy Camaro you can fit up to 5 large gang members and have a large trunk to store their guns and ammunition when they are going to commit a robbery. I believe they should use a highly modified Chevy SS in Fast & Furious 10 which will be filmed partly in Sydney Australia and the USA. Take Care, David Matherson

I feel like I get good gas mileage in mine, 12,686 miles and it reads 18 mpg. The problem is these cars want to run and so do the owners making it hard to keep your accelerator pedal off of the floor.
@@marvo9018 The theoretical top speed of the manual transmission Holden Commodore was about 430kph (267mph) provided you could put enough power behind it of course. As many Americans discovered with the previous model Commodore (the "VE"...the SS is a "VF" later model) in G8 guise, the six cylinder car is a pretty good touring car package if you don't need or want the outright power of the V8 and need more gas economy. The VF Commodore is, without doubt, the best car Holden ever produced. Engineered locally from the ground up, the designers at Holden really went all out to make a world class car and they succeeded really well. Even in 3.6 V6 form it beats the pants off of some European and Japanese mid-size cars. The quality control at Holden's Elizabeth plant in South Australia was exceptional, especially for exports as the workers were quite proud their cars were going off to the US and other countries. I suppose you did that to get that rich "V8 burble" but, my friend, it is not a good idea during the winter months...especially in the US. The ECU relies on a certain external temperature in the engine bay and not having the insulation might muck up the readings. The ECU may compensate but why make it do the extra work? Also be careful with the hood because being aluminium they can be a bit of a challenge in body repair shops. I had a stone ping a nice dent in my hood and it took the PDR guy half an hour extra to the normal repair time as he had to work the metal carefully. As to the closure of Holden... I get 26 mpg on my stock 2014 ss if i behave. If i don't behave than that is a different story but that is on me. As long as you don't remove the displacement on demand or variable timing systems your SS can get decent mileage. However if you plan on making power, removing those systems is a bit of a nobrainer. Once you do that you can kiss any chances of decent mpg goodbye 🤣
@whitecrystal1 honest mistake, this post is two years old. At the time, I was still learning about these cars and thought the Holden Caprice and the SS/ Commodore had more in common. Then I learned more about the LS3 and had forgotten all about this post. You are correct; the 6.2L LS3 has no variable valve timing or displacement on demand. Of those two features, I know for sure the D.O.D. is on the 6.0L, which is typically in the caprice.
I have to say I like the wheels and front lip that is on this car, great choice. Just to make you American's jealous, 300 of these cars in Australia were sold with the LS9 engine.
Probably very few cars over 100k miles on them. Though, it comes with the same ls3 engine and manual or automatic transmissions from the 5th gen camaro. Very reliable and very capable. Only real issue we have had on ours was the engine scarring a piston wall after being boosted, cammed, adding methanol injection, and several track days. As long as you tune it right and use quality parts, there's not many more cars I can think of that are more reliable.
Holden Australia designed the base of the locally built Holden Commodore (Chevy SS) GM USA imported the base into the US to use in the Camaro. GM decided to add all the chrome elements outside and inside for the US version of this car

You either forgot or didn't know that that same engine but in the corvette C6, when driven normal in the highway will get you 32-34mpg so there are V8's that get good gas mileage just depends on what vehicle. I know, I owned both a C5 and C6 which both got me over 30mpg.
Umm... I own the previous model, you guys in the US know it as a Pontiac G8, Mine is of course a 2010 Holden Commodore SS with a cammed L77 6 Litre V8, and it can give you good fuel econony if you don't drive like a loonatic. I've driven right across Australia (Melbourne to Perth and beyond) with it and returned an average of 9.8 litres per 100km, with a best of 7.8 litres per 100km. I live in Melbourne, and averate around the city is also not bad, between 12 and 13 litres per 100km. My car has the 6 speed Manual gearbox.
One interesting fact that has not been discussed here is the $$$$ value of these cars. The 2014 - 15 units with LOW miles are actually appreciating in value. Cars with under 15K on the clock. Check the usual internet sights for listings, or a wholesale conduit like Manheim auctions. The same scenario is true of the SS's predecessor, the Pontiac G8 GXP. The GXP's are bringing big dollars with low miles. And those cars are 12 yrs old. A super low mileage SS, in a few years will be an investment grade collector unit. Why? Because everything you can buy new, will have a deck of batteries in it for "power". There will no longer be a naturally aspirated American V8 "muscle car" being produced.
Just watching this video, I need some insight from someone with an SS. I’m currently in the market for one and just found one at a dealership just a couple miles away from me. It’s a 2014 Chevy SS with 26,300 miles on it for $42,900 would it be a good deal if I go for it or keep looking? Most of them are heavily used and high mileage. Let me know!
2015 is the sweet spot for model year... I may be a bit bias, but it really is. 2015 gave you the manual trans, forged wheels, rear brembo brakes, magnectic ride suspension and you still retain the CD player and front foglights. Obviously those last two are pretty worthless and serve little function these days. But I like having them regardless. Also, I dont like the sound of the bi-modal exhaust on the 16-17 and would end up changing it anyway.
I found one stock right next to where I live, 12k miles.. sadly it’s the 2014 model and I want to manual when I get one.. so the 2017 one.. I plan on getting one in a few years
Coming from the land of commodores i seriously suggest you get the SS. It had had a big upgrade from the previous model you call the G8 especially if you can get the LS3 SS (2015) which is ultimately on another level than a G8.. They do go faster with Holden badges though.
@@atx-cvpi_99 Yes, Well that's one we don't have here. We only have standard caprice as police didn't use them here. Definitely a good choice. I think here in Australia from about 2010 all our HSV's in the G8(VE) models came with LS3. Most people cant afford HSV though.

Where did you get the front lip?
We got it from mobile attractions website! It’s the V2.5 splitter for the SS 💪
unfortunately you didnt get the fast holdens of up to 517kw / 700hp aprox, with even better finishings.
Dream car 😳
Just watching this video, I need some insight from someone with an SS. I’m currently in the market for one and just found one at a dealership just a couple miles away from me. It’s a 2014 Chevy SS with 26,300 miles on it for $42,900 would it be a good deal if I go for it or keep looking? Most of them are heavily used and high mileage. Let me know!
I’m in the same page, but remember these ls are built to last and the aftermarket and work to be done ain’t that expensive
So did you get it?
Hey what are those tail lights
i want one soooo bad
Mann frrr
2015 is the sweet spot for model year... I may be a bit bias, but it really is.
2015 gave you the manual trans, forged wheels, rear brembo brakes, magnectic ride suspension and you still retain the CD player and front foglights. Obviously those last two are pretty worthless and serve little function these days. But I like having them regardless. Also, I dont like the sound of the bi-modal exhaust on the 16-17 and would end up changing it anyway.
Nah , the bi modul is great it's handy if you like your neighbours or want a his or her version when you drive..
I found one stock right next to where I live, 12k miles.. sadly it’s the 2014 model and I want to manual when I get one.. so the 2017 one.. I plan on getting one in a few years
2015 and up can be had with a manual
I have a 2017 SS and was told they aren’t fast cars. I’m a girl and a dude told me, I was thinking yup okay then - what a jerk.
What kind of rims are those? Could you send a link?
www.forgestar.com/wheels/rotary-formed-monoblock-series/f14/ they are forgestar f14s
What am I looking @ on price range ???
Right now used about 30-35k for a stock-ish clean low miles one I believe
Thanks I’m really tried to hop on the ss crews and get off the srts
I prefer SPG smiles per gallon
Major bummer alert the car is 5 yrs old and it’s still 39k wow
Exactly!
39k, 5 years old and on its second engine 🤣
my buddy had one and when he first said ss i figured cobalt. he lit the strip up with that thing taking me back to the hotel
The G8 gt and GTO coupe both are v8 with good gas mileage.
SS or a g8 gt? Can’t decide
After having both, I can say 90% of the time, I would pick the SS. More comfy, more modern, gets way more attention.
Coming from the land of commodores i seriously suggest you get the SS. It had had a big upgrade from the previous model you call the G8 especially if you can get the LS3 SS (2015) which is ultimately on another level than a G8.. They do go faster with Holden badges though.
Ross Coe I would get a Caprice PPV and swap an LS3 in it.
@@atx-cvpi_99 Yes, Well that's one we don't have here. We only have standard caprice as police didn't use them here. Definitely a good choice. I think here in Australia from about 2010 all our HSV's in the G8(VE) models came with LS3. Most people cant afford HSV though.
You cannot go wrong with a SS -or- a Pontiac G8-GT. Either one will work about the same.
The guy that designed the interior worked at airbus at one stage that is why it looks like it sort of belongs in a plane I love the interior I have a CapriceV the same interior but more options
Nice video 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Appreciate you checking it out!
Me thinks I spy an LSA on that puppy! From whom did you get the tail lights? I checked with Spyder and they told me directly that their versions would not fit the '16/'17 models. I have been wanting the tail lights but was not sure if there was an alternative.
It is indeed an lsa! We ordered these from maverick man carbon
Lmao when the trash 🗑 can came out
I have a SS & the Camaro 2ss and I love the 4 door SS more! My wife loves it more than the camaro, I tell her to drive the camaro and she said no pull out the SS 😂🤣
I love the chrome on my 17 ss
Add wide body with Holden badge epic
I’ve been trying to look for some but there always almost brand new and always 20,000$+
Where
Find a g8gt/gxp or a caprice. The SS’ aren’t cheap yet
@@Bhicken_Nugget Do you think the SS will ever devalue in the future or so? I’m already looking to buy one and found for $42k? Should I wait it out or go all in?
@@sebastianhernandez9329 search around on the Chevy ss Facebook groups. A lot of them have been going in the 35-40k range
I don’t see these going down in value any time soon, especially with how crazy the market is right now
@@Bhicken_Nugget Yeah I know. I found a 2014 Chevy SS with 24,300 miles for $42,900 at a dealer near me. I see 2016-2017 models with high miles going for around 50-55k and that’s a big NO for me. I really hope they don’t devalue anytime soon because I really plan on going for this 2014.
Rts have good gas mileage tho. 370 isn't bad.
Yea I’m from Australia and it’s the other way round over here when it comes to one of them and a Camaro it’s cause over here the ss is common and the Camaro isn’t that’s y people tend to look more at the Camaros and over there Camaros r common as and the ss is not
Good gas mileage is relative to the person
Should of made the plate “slo ls3”
Gah Damn finally a review that is factual. love it
What year?
This one is a 2016
What city you in?
Ogden Utah
This is my dream daily driver. Mighty car mods cresida 1jz swap was what really got me into sleepers
Pretty accurate and well stated review.
Thank you! I appreciate you checking it out and leaving a comment 👍
got the aussie version, love my baby
lost me on the car start up. This is modified and I want just a stock one and the way that goes,.
no lies I get the same question with mine
We should have sent our wagons and utes over as well. Holden unfortunately is no more and as Aussie ,who owns two SSV wagons and a Ute I will never part with them. Look after GTOs ,G8 and SSs because they will be rare in the future. Side note My SSV wagon based on an G8 Platform is getting and LSA with 2650 Harrop blower in a couple of weeks really looking forward to that.
I love utes!! Always wished they would have been brought over here. That ssv wagon is going to be crazy cool!
@@konns_cars I will send photos and video when its done mate
Hoping to pick up another car when I pay off my ss to keep the mileage down.
And the Caprice PPV as well.
Never part with them Mate! No matter what price.
Hey mate think u need to do more research before u say stuff as the inside is done by holden not Chevy I own one my self sv6 storm 2014 model and no chrome in mine and all the videos I've watched they all the same only diffs is u have full leather seats
How that insurance tho
This guys hilarious ....have you seen a Malibu like this no you haven’t
What is it with you guys in the USA,? These cars are goinhg to be worth heaps in the future, best you keep them stock and look after them. I can't see any sense in modifying them just to please the sheep. Look after the SS.
it wasn’t gm it was holden that made that interior
Correct
got one too bro mine was the last production built 2017 love it so much
That’s awesome man! They are really awesome cars!
Once they dropped the rwd ss I wanted one but I’m gonna go with a charger hellcat at the price they want for this thing
Lol are there actually people that look for economic V8 engines ?? 😂
thought about trading my g8 gt in for a low mileage ss but I kinda want a hellcat too 😭
Both great cars mate, down under the Hellcat is rare and expensive, I would love one
Bro get the SS.. This shit is a hellcat killer
@@sebastianhernandez9329 A dodge dealer definitely jus wasted my time last week, now Ima either mod my gt up real nice or get a gen 3 cts v
@@zbib43 I just found a 2014 Chevy SS with 26,300 miles for $42,900 at a dealer a couple miles away from me. Would you think it’s a good deal or not? Most of the SS around my area are 2016-2017 with above 40k miles.
@@sebastianhernandez9329 hell yes that’s a good deal bro
If I get this car id have to take it somewhere to do a full delete of all that BS chrome.
Poor car, never marketed properly. I want one. My terminator needs more of these cars around to stomp, but I'm gonna get one. Camaros and ctsv chassis are boring. This car is truly unique and will be collected.
Sounds like a sick termi! Always loved those things! The SS is definitely something a little different and people seem to love them
I don't think you know what "a dime a dozen" really means
I want a SS. But they're going for 50k+
The market right now for all cars is absolutely stupid. SS prices are a little ridiculous 😅
@@konns_cars can get them low 40’s to high 30’s now
@@grandmastagrimm8773 do you recommend to wait a little Inter or go for it now. I’m looking to buy one but trying to see them if the inflation of used cars is still going down
its a chevy they have dropped ball in years! problems, stearing in these cars suck theres a delay! there slow! they break down every week!
Lol I strongly disagree. I love chevys and aside from the blown engine do to HEAVY after market modifications, never have a problem with them. And I think you mean steering* there’s no delay that I notice
It is not a Chevy. It's a Holden Commodore SS. Watch the Video Again if you did not watch it first time. There is a reason this Car caters to more than $49K.
GM shut down Holden because they were showing them up by making decent cars. Can’t have that. If people in the US and elsewhere actually knew about these cars when we were building them maybe the factory would have been saved and Holden could have been a niche sedan (4 door) producer for the world but Im sure GM made certain that this could never happen.
They only sent the Holden Commodore to the US begrudgingly to keep their end of the bargain that it would be exported to the states.
Interior design is all Australian holden standard.. GM America had nothing to do with it. Lol
Yeah that’s correct. Which is probably why it’s the best interior GM put in a car
It's not a ss it's holding why
If you won’t one with good gas mileage get a sv6 😂
Holden SS IsN'T A mAliBu
Quality video 😂😂
I had to tell lots of people that its just an SS lol
Yo how that insurance tho
I might get one soon
I got lots of tickets so mine was high lol
Lol that will do it! 😂 with a decent driving record (which I don’t necessarily have either) it’s not that high on insurance
I got all my tickets in the GTO...lol...haven't got on in the ss..but the damage was already done
YES SUBIES ARE TRASH‼️👌💯
I will NEVER sell my 2016
Smart move! Hold on to that beast!
chevy charger
Lol basically yes
Holden Commodore ss
They used to make these in my hometown rip :( the new commodore looks like a Kia now a days :(
Sad day when they shut down the Holden plants :(
Actually, The USA version is an SSv Redline. Top of the factory line but not yet a HSV
They’re not worth the money
I actually agree 100 from a performance standpoint!
@@konns_cars mustang def best bang for your buck
