This discovery is truly captivating, and I can't even begin to envision the appearance of the creature responsible for laying the egg. Awesome video.

As Bill Bryson said, 'imagine if all we knew about the land on Earth was found out by six guys on garden tractors who only went out after dark'.

      I like this theory!
      Completely plausible.

I don't know much about oceans and all also don't care much may be cause I live in land locked area but seeing a beautiful person like you explaining I listen patiently.

If it is an egg would it hold the DNA of whatever laid it or grew in it?

Yes it would, but it all depends on whether we have the DNA of the animal on record - if it's never been sampled before there will be nothing to match the DNA to and then we know it's an undiscovered (or at least unsampled) species.

The golden orb made me think of "Cradle" by Arthur C. Clarke. Presumably they're running DNA tests on the sample to get a genetic profile?

In the entire history of American psycho-capitalism, logic has never prevailed over greed. I hope that in the case of industrial-scale deep sea mining it will but I am not optimistic.

The Oceans are an abundance of new science, yet we spend billions on exploring the barren areas of space that yield little. Humans should spend more time conserving and exploring the oceans rather than treating them as a waste bin.
The source of energy could be by utilising the sea currents rather than building ugly wind farms. The immense power of the oceans are from planetary external sources and these, like the sun , should be utilised. There are also many useful natural foods in the oceans such as sea weeds that are rich in minerals such as Iodine and Magnesium, salt and many other things that occur naturally. Humans are not as intelligent as they think. We are still evolving and still so primitive that we fight wars. This is a weakness in our genes which should be bred out by eliminating war mongers. There must be something in the DNA we could identify ? Good research project ? We know the specimens.

I cant help but express my human pessimism - i like how scientists first response when encountering something new is ..."hey ..lets grsb that and dissect it ...figure out what it is " ..... Im just hope some scientist doesnt see me and wonder what the he...ck i am !!
