- I am pleased to have narrated another Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story.
This is quite a departure for him and his style of works. I had no idea he had such an interest in the Occult and the unknown and often wrote about it in fiction and non-fiction.
This is an interesting story, which at times seems both eclectic and perhaps bizarre. The subject is well told and handled well, with often quite beautiful language used, although you might find different.
Ultimately, it is an intriguing story, though with perhaps something of a bizarre end. It contains allusions to Occult literature, and offers some mysticism and religious discussions, but it always remains light hearted in a way.
As seems quite often in old works such as this, some of the language used feels odd and I had to look again at the text to see that I had read it correctly, and I had. I’m sure you will hear some odd moments in here and wonder the same.
There is a French man in the story, and he uses the word ‘hein’ quite often, which I had heard little of until now. I provide a link here so you can understand it better, but I think it also speaks for itself generally.

Sometimes, Doyle will use words such as ‘meester’ which is a poor attempt at conveying how a French person might pronounce words in English. I chose not to annunciate in such a manner, as I felt it would detract from the reading and sounds just a little odd.
Overall, a good story, which is better in its telling than the actual story.
I want to do some more of his works, but I will look at more of what he is best known for and explore those in the future.
Thank you for listening in and please comment on your thoughts down below.
Enjoy.
