I was reminiscing like you about those initial days of learning english....l prefer to share one of the most vibrant and unadulterated memories...
Initially I was so obsessed with learning English .Oneday I was reading an English newspaper in train...one copassenger asked me,"why are you so reluctant about bengali (my native language)"
Then i instinctively replied,"bengali,my foot".it was pretty supercilious and everyone were glaring at me with contempt...😂😂

I think that here in Brazil someone who actually wants to learn english, a person who really WANTS!!
This person eventually will needs to do at least 70% or more of the work alone.
Specially if the person is poor, because we have an educational system that doens´t help much, especially with foreign languages.
Our population in a mainstream way, also doesn´t practise the english with the frequency that requires to be a good speaker of the language.

I can say to u,if u don't practice for long Time, maybe u never going to reach In one great level, In the other hand u need also to remember that u going to back to your first language which going to make u lose time, unless u read everything in English. Almost live the Language
