This was the best SLS format in my opinion, or at least my favorite. It was the most comprehensive, well rounded, and fair I think for determining a winner and giving everyone plenty of chances. 2 runs using the whole course, one best of 5 using all of the course except for the big section, and then pressuring 4 out of 6 in the big section really includes everything. The current format of 1 run and 4 trick attempts is great for really pressuring skaters to commit fully to everything and bring their A-game, and it makes everything more concise, but kind of minimizes the amount of skating we get to see and gives almost no room for mistakes. But all of the formats are valid and I think brought different things out. When trying really difficult stuff I think there needs to be a little bit more room for error, but with the level of where it's gotten to today especially, I think it has made skaters even more dialed in then they were previously and brought the level up even higher. It's exciting but feels a little rushed. Even removing the best of 5 worked just as well, but I think if the goal is to have a well rounded competition and also to pressure skaters to showcase their best tricks in order to win, this is the most balanced format, even if it's spread thinner and takes a little bit longer. The only thing I might change is make the best trick a 3 out of 7 rather than a 4 out of 6 because it gives more room for skaters going for crazier tricks with less of a focus on getting the basics down to build a point base, and I think when people think back to the best moments in SLS it's when everyone is throwing down their absolute best. My 2 cents.
