No regrets for going big for a time. You learned a lot, and nothing is an accident. Also, you helped all of us learn through you. But I think that we all agree that a time to slow down for a minute is long overdue. We support you, and please, both of you, take care of your health and enjoy a few moments of peace and rest together.
Pumpkins and ornamental squash would make lots of sense. You can decorate your own farm in the fall, maybe sell some at your farm stand and feed the rest to your animals. Maybe grow some Indian corn, too. It's beautiful!
Don't know how much trouble it would be, but what about sunflowers and pumpkins and sell the seeds . Both are healthy . Wish I could do that. Love to eat both. Is it feasible to freeze dry flowers? Selling sachets? Watermelon jelly- yum. We adopted a black kitten that my youngest daughter is bottle feeding. We named him Bear and is a cutie .
Great idea Jason, plant flowers for the bees, plant some trees, enjoy the farm without all the back breaking job! Slow living is the way to go, sit back and watch the beauty around you!❤
@mycelticstardust As time goes by the Smith farm will reap the benefits of the work put forth . And people who stop by the veggies, fruit, egg ,honey ,flowers stand.
Perfect time to grow whatever you can, even in containers, even just a little bit. Scary world we are living in! Love all the farmers and I definitely support my local growers, but I'm also trying super hard to contribute to my meals where I can with home grown. Have a nice day everybody. ♥️🙏🏼🇺🇲
Im glad you are downsizing. Good for you, spend the time with project's, or animals or more birding. Enjoy yourself and take it easy with your back. Loved seeing the animal's with the hats. They looked hilarious.
I’d keep cover crops and just keep working to make the ground improving for crops. This way if you change your mind about farming, your land will be ready. Also, you could possibly lease the land for organic growing in the future. Maybe for hay.
I like the idea of planting feed crops for your fur babies. Don't forget to plant watermelons for Loretta. I can just see her know running around her pen. 🌻👍🌻
Glad to see you are downsizing your garden an using the raised beds. It will be convenient and not so much work. The flowers for the bees and something beautiful to look at. Love you all
I got my Peaches peaches and read it to my granddaughter this morning, she enjoyed it so much. Sounds like an excellent opportunity for more animals on the farm. 😊
I love your ideas for planting in the raised beds, Jason. Very smart. And I love the idea for planting the larger beds with flowers for the pollinators to enjoy. Overall some fantastic planning! 💖
I think that planning your farm for your future is a really smart thing to do. And you have room to replant the fields if you change your minds later! I'm wondering if giving the emus the chance to fulfill some of their natural tendencies like sitting on the eggs that season was maybe something they innately benefited from in some way? And knowing the eggs were not fertile, as well, definitely makes sense to not want to put Nugget through that again; especially since it's not a necessity. :) You're such good-hearted farmers! We love you for it, too!
Jason I do not doubt that you and Brook could do flower bouquets and sell them at your farm stand. You have and eye and talent for it plus you love flower gardening. People are getting into having fresh flowers for their home and dinner table. A vase of fresh flowers from my garden makes me happy.
Lavender please 🙏🏻! It would be so beautiful and the whole farm would be so relaxed 😂! Not to mention the multiple uses of lavender!! At least think about it! I love your family so much! Greetings from North Carolina ❤
Great idea to downsize, Jason. I'm so glad you'll be utilizing your raised beds, as they will be so much easier on your back. Fields of flowers will be beautiful and beneficial, not only to the bees, but to any humans who may witness them. 😊🌼🌺🌹🌸🌻
Good morning Jason and Brooke! I agree with the folks that you could use one of the big beds for pumpkins and watermelons. They would have plenty of room to spread out. Ms. Brooke's mama could have a watermelon every day, and Peaches MIGHT consider more fondly that 25 cent raise you' ve been hinting about if you grew her some watermelon. You would also have the benefit of as many pumpkins as you wish to decorate around the front gate and wagon area .One bed would be all you need, and you would still have gracious plenty of room for plants to make the bees happy . Hugs from N.C..❤
Jason, I feel like you have made a very smart decision. Life is too short to work yourself into debilitating pain. You have so much to enjoy and with your new plans hopefully you can enjoy everything even more. All your fur and feather babies look so healthy and happy and I look forward every day to see you interacting with them. I would love to be able to share hugs with Jesse and Honey (and all the others) but especially those two sweethearts. I’m glad you didn’t let Nugget sit on the eggs, I worried so much about him last time although I knew you were watching him very carefully, he is just so very special. Take care ❤❤❤ Jason, Brooke, Mary Carl and all those precious critters on Cog Hill farm. 🦋🇨🇦
Back when I planted raised bed gardens, I found that having a bed with only one kind of plant. Every year I rotated where I planted the vegetables. I had two beds for potatoes and carrots. The root vegetables beds were a mixture of sand and soil.
Jason, how about if you used that inground with feed for the chickens? A few rows of different grains, you could even toss in some pumpkin and beans here and there and just harvest when ready?sUnflowers too ! I hear you on the raised beds. I’ve had the “ failed back surgery, and just not Gumby anymore. Nice show as ever!
Those Seminole pumpkins would be a huge treat for the crew. Which reminds me, do y'all ever eat squash blossoms? Fried and stuffed are my two favorites. Working smarter with those raised beds and rethinking the crops in the big beds is brilliant. Hopefully easier on your body AND free up some time for family fun.
I love the idea of planting the big gardens for pollinators and maybe some treats for the animals like watermelons and pumpkins, maybe sell a few too. Grow things that don’t require so much work and enjoy your family especially these last few years before MC is all grown up! Y’all are so good to your animals, love watching your channel, it’s probably my favorite among the TH-camrs. 💕
Oh, I don't think dear Nugget sitting on those eggs was a total waste... you learned from it and he got to experience being a dedicated Emu Papa.... sorry it didn't work out, but please, no regrets.... you are so good to your pets and learning from an experience is helpful to all!
This is the beginning of cold & flu season. Please get your flu shot and take extra vitamin C. ❤ As we get older we do need to take care of ourselves more. Jason, I fully agree to downsizing. I have developed severe lower back issues. Please take care of your back & body. I don't wish what I'm going through on anyone . I can't wait to see your pig grab a huge piece of pumpkin and run off with it. I laugh so hard each time I see it. Brings me joy. 🙂🦋
Always great videos. I think downsizing is a good idea. You aren't getting younger and the older we get the more our bones hurt. Love my Cog Hill family. Love and prayers. God bless. 🙏❤🙏❤🙏❤🙏❤
Here I am, a woman that has never and will never desire to have children, humbly asking you to make some more children’s videos😂 I got my nephew your book and he loved Peaches so now I’m telling my brother about the kids channel. Thank you again for the book! I love that I can share my love of your farm with him and it’s another way for us to connect.
Sounds like you have a plan Jason. Since this is a family home as well it's nice to see you scale things back. When you brought up the idea of using the plots for flowers to help the bees I wasn't surprised. You & Brook have a good mind set. No matter what I will be here to watch. Keep trucking! 🤠🐝
Living Traditions Homestead went to all raised beds and had a very successful year and are planning on adding some wider beds for some of their choices of plants. Take a look at their set up.
Jason, "to everything there is a season"....I think it is very wise to start your downsize planning now. When you have acreage, pastures, animals, gardens, birds, you will always be busy, and that can be a good thing! So figure out what your most difficult chores are, for whatever reason, and think about what brings you the most joy that your senior years can maintain. You still have plenty of time, but now is actually a good time to start thinking about it!! At the age of 77, I have aches and pains and illnesses I never even thought about, yet here they are!! So to maintain my life to where I have some joy, and still be busy with chores I can handle, I have eliminated my gardens down to one flower garden that I can maintain and a small vegetable garden, bird baths and bird feeders, all close to my home so I can even enjoy things by looking out my windows. Although our circumstances are quite different, I just wanted to let you know that downsizes to provide for age and illnesses and aches and pains is a real thing, and you're a smart man to be thinking about that now! Just love you and Brooke and your farm and all your gardens and animals, and guess what, watching your videos is another part of my life that brings me great joy!! Much love and many blessings from Livonia Michigan....💖
Not sure how sustainable it would be in a rural community, but perhaps offer flowers on demand for events like weddings, parties, homecoming, anniversary, birthdays, etc. You could control how many orders you take at a time and if you have availability only cutting when you need them.
Corn, squash, okra, pumpkin, watermelon, etc and things that take up lots of room could be in your plots. Once you know the raised beds work well, you can know more.
I think putting all your veggies, etc in the garden right behind your house is a GREAT idea!!! It's right there when you need something from it and it's so much less work and definitely easier on your back.
I think that’s a great idea! ❤ Y’all don’t have to work yourselves to the bone. Enjoy your farm, and family without breaking your back. It would help Mrs. Cog Hill too. I live on an old home place, so I have many volunteer plants-including elephant garlic
I totally understand downsizing! I have neck and back problems and I can only grow in small grow bags and have to sit in a chair to keep me from bending too much. I tell people I wish I appreciated my young strong back when I was younger!
😊Ihave severe pain in my back it's been years with pain it's getting so bad I can barely walk I have surgery on it but it was not good but even though I'm 71 years old keep on doing what I can do
I use raised garden beds for most of my food and the large in ground areas for things like pumpkins and sweet corn that need bigger areas to thrive. You can easily convert your large in ground areas for additional flowers or other cash crops that don't require irrigation like saffron.
Great plan as usual. I think having it ready for some fall plantings was great! You've always wanted this for your family. Be proud. Pollinators both Cog Squad & wild will absolutely love y'all for it. It was good to try all the avenues for your farm garden. Now you can be satisfied that to help the community with food or beautiful flowers, it'll take more than one person full time. In the meantime, pollinators rejoice and for all those who drive past your farm in the community a beautiful field of flowers to bring a smile to a day. Good on ya
I am glad to see you are going to cut things back, your ambition is bigger than you can handle on you own. You're a great guy and we love watching you.
Work smarter not harder is what you are going. Well done Jason. My neighbor has a group of fenced in raised beds and it has been very successful for him.
Jason God will make a way for you buddy, God is going to show you the best way for your family, because God knows your heart ❤️ and you have a big heart ❤️ God bless you 💗
As i got older i downsized my garden beds. I only have 10 raised beds now. My raised beds are 3 feet tall. I can sit on the sides to plant, weed and harvest. We hatvested so o much food from those brds. Ee ate a lot fresh but we were also able to can and freeze dry enough to get us through the winter, spring and into the summer. I have never regretted giving up my in ground gardening
Your garden plans make good sense, keeping it easy for you to manage overall. Love the pollenater flower gardens. Isn't funny how age, aches, pains make us wise. lol.
Wildflowers are wonderful idea and it will be filled with bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. Beautiful morning and great to see all the babies. You and Brooke have worked so much to make your home beautiful. Slowing down to enjoy all your work is a great idea. When I retired from my work alcoholic job it was a relief and now I can enjoy my home and family
Hi Jason! So excited about the raised garden. So smart about keeping your food source closer to home. Enjoy your videos. Sending ya some well wishes for your back…I have back and leg issues so I understand your pain. Try using a tens machine, it helps me. Much love to you, Brooke, MaryCarl and your animal babies.❤️🌻🌼🌸
Good morning Jason, now that was Smiles with a calming effect this morning, thank you for taking us along as you did the rounds. I think you’re on to something with planting in the raised beds. That raised bed area is another shining star that will supply produce that will Harvest even more Cog Hill Smiles along the way. 😀👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️
I like your raised beds and it’s nice to know you don’t have to go all the way to the ground to plant and harvest. Nugget is so very sweet, don’t know how you managed to get him that way! Loved the video ! Keep the bees happy❤
No regrets for going big for a time. You learned a lot, and nothing is an accident. Also, you helped all of us learn through you. But I think that we all agree that a time to slow down for a minute is long overdue. Pumpkins and ornamental squash would make lots of sense. You can decorate your own farm in the fall, maybe sell some at your farm stand and feed the rest to your animals. Maybe grow some Indian corn, too. It's beautiful!
I didn't get full development of corn, Indian, but was able to give stalks away for decoration.
This would be a great idea!
Gourds, too !
Plant pumpkins and watermelon for the critters and plants flowers to sell in the roadside stand.
Slow living is the way to go, sit back and watch the beauty around you!❤
Jason, try rotating your hips one way and then the other way and it loosens up those nerves try doing a little bit of dancing
@mycelticstardust As time goes by the Smith farm will reap the benefits of the work put forth .
And people who stop by the veggies, fruit, egg ,honey ,flowers stand.
Hot tubs are amazing after you learn to keep ‘em balanced.
Have you thought about UPick Flowers?
And I forgot, the coffee ☕️
I am grateful for all the real farmers out there, wthout them we would be starving.
❤I ask the lord to bless all farmers. Without them we wouldn't have food on our table or cupboards, refrigerator & pantries.
Perfect time to grow whatever you can, even in containers, even just a little bit. Scary world we are living in! Love all the farmers and I definitely support my local growers, but I'm also trying super hard to contribute to my meals where I can with home grown. Have a nice day everybody. ♥️🙏🏼🇺🇲
Fields of flower will be a delight for the human neighbors, too!
And you could add more bees. We need all the pollinators this world can hold. 🐝🦋🌺🌺
Raised beds sure will save your back. I love the idea of the pollinator gardens. Sit back and enjoy the views.
Good morning from Chicago! I thank God for you. I feel more peaceful hearing your voice and seeing your farm and the animals. Thanks for sharing.
Me also, Jason and Brooke never complain, their sense of humor is the best. I have never not enjoyed them. And we all need joy.
I'm right nextdoor in NW INDIANA on the Lake front.
Cog Hill Farm is my Happy Place
I loved the INTRO with the flowers, morning sun and the perfect melody. ❤❤❤
I like the idea of planting feed crops for your fur babies. Don't forget to plant watermelons for Loretta. I can just see her know running around her pen. 🌻👍🌻
I think Nugget has been telling stories to Goldie about the old farm where he could watch you working in the garden . He’s so special. ❤
Holly is not allowed to drive until she’s 15 and gets her permit!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I love how Goldie lets you get closer now
Glad to see you are downsizing your garden an using the raised beds. It will be convenient and not so much work. The flowers for the bees and something beautiful to look at. Love you all
The rotating plots of sunflowers, sun hemp, blue basil, zinnias & any other flowering crops I'm sure bring a smile to thoes passing your farm.
Absolutely!!!! A wonderful place of cheer and joy.
Sometimes we need to slow down and smell the roses 🌹. Maybe hurting your back was a sign. Also easier as you and Brooke get older. All the best! 😊
I
I got my Peaches peaches and read it to my granddaughter this morning, she enjoyed it so much. Sounds like an excellent opportunity for more animals on the farm. 😊

The morning shots in the opener of the goats and Mildred were spectacular.
They certainly were!

IT IS SO MUCH FUN TO SEE HOW MUCH HOLLY LOVES YOU. SHE IS THE VERY BEST DOG I EVER SAW. A CONSTANT COMPANION.
Sometimes we don't see the purpose in things. God gave you a warning of what could be and showed you what will be! Great decision! 🎉🎉🎉
Can’t fight Father Time, work smarter, not harder, been switching to raised beds at 66 yrs young
Lavender please 🙏🏻! It would be so beautiful and the whole farm would be so relaxed 😂! Not to mention the multiple uses of lavender!! At least think about it! I love your family so much! Greetings from North Carolina ❤

Fields of flowers will be beautiful and beneficial, not only to the bees, but to any humans who may witness them. 😊🌼🌺🌹🌸🌻
I totally understand the downsizing and it will free you up to go on birding trips
I BELIVE you could grow a lot in your green houses like Daniel Arms did in the past. 🥰
Perfect plan Jason! Keep it manageable! ❤😊

Great idea work smarter not harder / fill the huge plot with beautiful flowers for the bees 🎉❤
Jason, I feel like you have made a very smart decision. Life is too short to work yourself into debilitating pain. You are right Jason ...listen to you body , it will be beautifull with all the flowers 😊❤
My favorite weather, with chilly mornings and sunny afternoons. Classic fall🍁
I second that, got a lot done this morning with caulking, a bit of painting, and woodpecker prevention, I sure hope that will work.
Nugget is such a sweetheart 💕
Back when I planted raised bed gardens, I found that having a bed with only one kind of plant. Every year I rotated where I planted the vegetables. I had two beds for potatoes and carrots. The root vegetables beds were a mixture of sand and soil.
I think bee and butterfly would love you do great thing bees 🐝
Plant milkweed for the monarchs and fennel or dill for swallowtails
Jason, how about if you used that inground with feed for the chickens? I’ve had the “ failed back surgery, and just not Gumby anymore. Nice show as ever!
I came here to say the same thing. Cutting feed costs for your animals. You don't have to worry too much about weeds either.
Or goodness sake elephant garlic is a leek. I will hare that
Those Seminole pumpkins would be a huge treat for the crew. Which reminds me, do y'all ever eat squash blossoms? Fried and stuffed are my two favorites.

I love how Holly tries to steal kisses from her daddy ❤❤
Looks like Catherine is having a ball tending to those emu eggs! 😊❤
This is the beginning of cold & flu season. Please get your flu shot and take extra vitamin C. ❤

Always great videos. I think downsizing is a good idea. You aren't getting younger and the older we get the more our bones hurt. Love my Cog Hill family. Love and prayers. God bless. 🙏❤🙏❤🙏❤🙏❤
Must say though, I will miss Brooke using her tractor to turn up the soil. I find that relaxing.
Your raised beds turned out great. Your back yard will be so beautiful.
In addition to pollinator plots, you could plant some green plots to move the chickens through with clovers, vetch, etc 👍💚👏
Great idea!😊❤
Sounds pretty. Dont grow purple vetch, though. It grows like gangbusters and will take over huge plots of land.
Nugget is just doing his job and sheriffing(?) the farm. He’s doing an excellent job.
So happy you are thinking of easing your gardening chores! Well, shifting your gardening focus!
There’s gonna be a time where we are gonna see Goldie in Jason’s lap one day just like nugget
We just received our first order of Coghill Honey. It was packaged very well and arrived quickly. Thank you, Coghill!
I love raised bed gardening. As I get older, I find it is easier on me. 💖💖💖
Yes ✨️ 🎉 Pollinators ❤ Flowers 💐 Flowers 💐 and more Flowers 💐 😍 💕
Here I am, a woman that has never and will never desire to have children, humbly asking you to make some more children’s videos😂 I got my nephew your book and he loved Peaches so now I’m telling my brother about the kids channel. The picture on today's episode is so crisp and clear.
Morning Jason and Holly, I just love how yall do what is best for the animals. Good luck with all the planting❤❤

❤❤❤ love the sounds on your phone wish I was on a farm instead of Nursing Home
Loretta’s sweet little turned up mouth and nose is the sweetest thing! She by far is the cutest pig on UTube!!❤️
I think that’s a great idea! ❤ Y’all don’t have to work yourselves to the bone. Enjoy your farm, and family without breaking your back. It would help Mrs. Cog Hill too. I live on an old home place, so I have many volunteer plants-including elephant garlic

Hope u get relief soon Jason…bees are going to be soooo happy and never leave your farm with all the flowers u supply them..!!!!🩷🙏🩷
Jason God will make a way for you buddy, God is going to show you the best way for your family, because God knows your heart ❤️ and you have a big heart ❤️ God bless you 💗
Have you thought about selling bedding plants? You have two green houses…you could sell them at the stand.
Would giving “Petals” some competition.😂

Good morning Cog squad
Beautiful Fall Flowers and Decorations🎃💕
Good morning!
Good morning from the farm!
Great idea Jason.....you don't want more work as you get older.....❤❤❤❤❤❤
Morning y'all hope everyone has a great day!
Great idea. You and Brook need less stress.
I love the dream ...the field acres of flower 🌹❤
I really liked your opening today with the flowers, It would be nice to see more of your property on your openings.

Good morning, guys!
Morning! It's going to be a good one!
Good morning Jason, now that was Smiles with a calming effect this morning, thank you for taking us along as you did the rounds. I think you’re on to something with planting in the raised beds. That raised bed area is another shining star that will supply produce that will Harvest even more Cog Hill Smiles along the way. 😀👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️
Downsizing is good!
I like your raised beds and it’s nice to know you don’t have to go all the way to the ground to plant and harvest. Nugget is so very sweet, don’t know how you managed to get him that way! Loved the video ! Keep the bees happy❤
Your farm is so peaceful ❤
I,100% agree with you Jason. Great decision. Great plan.
