    It would be cool if the wheel had one of those quick releases you see on race cars, sometimes handles and wheels get in the way.

    I did one similar on my little mill and it is a handy thing for sure. Good stuff.

    Say your video yesterday and you inspired me to build a quill wheel for my Bridgeport J head and it turned out great. I really enjoy your videos and follow your chanel regularly. You are inovative and thorough and you share information in an entertaining way. Best regards from maple valley, L J

    You got the spacer kit I helped Jim develop, on a Lagun there is a simmilar problem with the quill feed transmission lever intrtfering with the wheel. I actually machined the first one in my shop and sent the dimmensions to Jim. I see you have found out that Jim is a stand up guy and he offered my viewers a wheel for my recent drawing. You will find if you need more torque just grab the spokes and use them. You will find as I have the it is worth the price that it costs to buy the quill wheel. Good review

    They sent me one of those wheels too. And just like you I put the wing nut on the top. I guess that is just the natural place to put it. I have a PM950V and the wheel does fit a bit close to the gear shift. Stay well and keep on keeping on.

      I am sure Jim can send you a spacer if needed

      I have the same 950V and measured according to Jim's website, so the CL-1 will fit mine but I would like to get the spacer if it don't weaken the set up. I just want one to be in the cool crowd...LOL I don't do enough work in my home shop to really need it.

    Look great - I'm sure I've seen Bruce Whitham do this to his mills also (may be wrong?) to help with arthritic hands...well done.

    I got to know Jim Enos a few months ago, he's a very cool guy. He's very particular and really wants his stuff to be done right so not surprised he's sent out a couple follow up packages to make the wheel fit well.

    I have a RF-45 type mill and the quill has three levers. Now and again I bump my head to the lever, when adjusting (metering) the workpiece or picking something up from the floor. The wheel is less painfull I asume.

    I absolutely guarantee if you work the Bridgeport Mill with that on you will bang your head on it many many times when doing something intricate. 100% . Instead of the spacer it could have been made with a ball and socket quick release to flip down. I work a Bridgeport every day and could make a list as long as my arm about them. Hey I subbed your channel. If you have time take a look on mine I may have some videos you find interesting. 👍

    I think the addition of the wheel is a good idea. I think making the hub/adapter myself is a good shop project. I’ve never done a x,y coordinates circular hole pattern in the mill.

    I use mine, about half the time, because it is low enough to run into the work. When it doesn't get in the way, it is really handy.

    Worked 40 years in tool and die almost every bridgeport was fitted with a wheel . like one of the first things people did when they got a new bridgeport was to move the wheel over from the old one. the hardest was to retro fit on the sharp cnc mill conversions

    It seems like just a 14" vehicle steering wheel with adapter. I think it will perform better and look better if they use the 13.5inch boat steering wheel. Those have knob and equal spoke spacing.

    Could you share the brand of your mill? I just bought a used one with the same "M" on the base and I am trying to identify it.

    • @woodscreekworkshop9939
      @woodscreekworkshop9939  ปีที่แล้ว

      M stands for Meehanite casting process and is not a brand name. Many manufactures have M on their castings. My mill happens to be Precision Matthews.

    My mill had a single handle.I hated it. I drilled and tapped for two more handles,120deg.apart,at the same angle of the original handle.Occasionally,it gets in the way and I slide it off and lay it to the side. I really think that steering wheel thing would be more trouble than it’s worth.

    Yuchol, the steering wheel knob is called a spinner; slang term is "suicide knob".

    • @larry527az3
      @larry527az3 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andyZ3500s That's what I've always known them as "Brody Knob", so you can do brody's or donuts essentially. Illegal in most states these days but awesome on forklifts and any short wheel based off road vehicle.

    now... make up a holder that goes on the square crank pin just in front of the DRO cables .. so you can snap it on there.. and you can change the steering wheel with the crank lever in seconds.. without having to search the shop... where did that thing go..

    Now lets see you drill a 1 1/2 dia. hole in steel with that, I have been running a Bridgeport for 40 years and I wouldn't own one, way more leverage with the straight handle, plus, they make quick release handles already

    • @andyb7963
      @andyb7963 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Seems to me that drilling and tapping your old lever center to make it a three 'spoke' would solve all your problems. Such as my column mill or drill press. That molded finish will collect oil and dirt and be uncleanable. I would give that expensive gadget a pass. Seems the waste of what could have been an interesting video episode. I rarely get excited with infomercials. Take care. Doug
