I’ve been testing the Yokohama V601 tires on spirited touge drives, some drift practices and… well you’ll find out soon enough! Stay tuned for an in-depth review on these tires! Subscribe for more RX-8 content! 🫶✨
@@shamalabadingdong The V601 is what I would say a high performance, neutral and all-rounder set of tires. What I meant by "neutral" is because of its behavior where it provides great traction when it's dry, will do fairly well in the wet and you can still break traction if you wish to send the car sideways. It's very comfortable and quiet too. Not exactly amazing for track usage (as you can tell from my more recent videos) but it is fun on the touge as I can let the tail slide, control it and regain traction on-demand. I'd recommend it for street driving (including touge or backroad runs) or occasional autocross usage. I still prefer the AD09 more for maximum grip on track.
@@MeorHariz so I'm on ps4s on an Elantra/Avante N (OEM). I drive mainly street miles. I am aiming for 1-3 autocrosses and 1-2 track days per year. 95% of my driving will be on the street, fairly aggressive driving though. I have a set of winter tires so these tires won't be used in the cold. I'm in Canada, the roads aren't rough so I'm not concerned about wear. I've seen so many people on my Facebook groups say that their ps4s melted and chunked on one track day. I can't afford to have these expensive tires fall apart in one track day. How are the ad09's in the wet? Would they be fine to drive to work in the rain? Obviously not as good as the ps4s, but will I be scared for my life and need to be hyper alert for puddles/water? Or can I just drive normally and safely in rainy conditions without a worry? The v601's don't look like track tires, but they seem better than ps4s at handling a track day. I'm considering both the ad09 and v601 heavily. The only thing that makes me concerned is the aquaplanning. Also, have you tried the rs4? It looks like the ad09 is just a faster rs4 with better wet but worse heat resistances. Otherwise, both very good treadwear endurance 200tw. The ad09 is also quiet right? Most of my friends tell me to get rs4s for my situation. I think that the ad09 would be a better fit. What do you think?
@@shamalabadingdongI just saw this comment (about a year late at this point). You probably have bought a set of tires but might as well share my insight for those who might come across our comments. The AD09 is so much better than the AD08R in the wet. They don’t hydroplane as badly. In fact, I think they’re quite predictable in the rain. You just know when it’s about to break traction. (There’s a video of me racing in the rain with them.) I have tried the RS4. They’re not as grippy as the AD09 but they last much longer. They’re more like endurance tires where as the AD09 gives a solid lap time if you utilize it when it is at its peak. Cheers!
@@MeorHariz I felt the same, just very disappointed with the wear of the ad09's. They lasted me, 1 autox, 1 track day, and 8k kms on the street on my Elantra N. They're down to 4/32 now lol. I'm a beginner to hpde and the costs hurt the most in my situation. The ad09's are great in the wet with tread, but I'd rather have a high tread rs4 in the wet than a low tread ad09. I wish I went with the rs4's, they would have lasted me more than one summer. My car is a 2023 Elantra N
I agree! They're perfect for those who are seeking daily comfort but also would like to push it a little bit more on the weekends. One of the reasons I went with these instead of something with higher grip such as the Yokohama AD09 was because I'm still practicing drifting. Needed something that could break traction on demand but still grippy enough to make things predictable. 10/10 would buy these again once they are out!
That will be highly appreciated! Having a somewhat dark colored car means night shots are less appealing. Let’s do it sometime soon! Thanks for tuning in broski! 🫶
Good question! I've been using these tires for a bit over a year now. It handles very well in the wet! No issues driving at the speed of 110km/h on straight lines and mild corners. Grips fairly well, even if you plan to push it around 130km/h or so (but I don't suggest to make it a habit to speed in the rain). Braking in both wet and dry condition have been great in these. The only time I've ever truly locked up while braking was when I ran over some sand and gravel at low speed and did an emergency brake (under 60km/h). Above all, the handling is predictable - which makes it one of the best tires you can get for its price and size availability. I've drifted the car in the dry and wet conditions and it is really easy for me to feel where the traction limit is.
@MeorHariz wet handling matters to me so i am considering this tires for my e36. But then again, I just got my daily honda city hatch a set of 4 bluEarth es32, and I get to test the wet handling. It performed quite impressived for the price, 110+kmh in the rain feels very confident, even if theres standing water on the road youll less likely to hydroplane. Having experienced that made me second guessing the apex v601, i know theyre both are completely on different side of the spectrum, but is it worth it to spend that extra dollar for what the v601 has to offer? Side note, I dont really drive too fast nowadays, just couple of pulls in the straight and the e36 seldom driven on a long trip or curvy road ( just because where I live we dont have those, coastal life). So dry handling is not that high on my priority list, i just hate having to slow down when it rains. Being able to maintain speed on dry and wet ia the goal here.
@@stevensonatra9328Hi Steven (I hope that is your name), I’ve been daily driving my RX-8 with the V601 for the past 2 months or so and that includes a fine share of our tropical thunderstorm days. These tires are quite amazing in the rain! Accelerating from a slow cruising speed up to 140km/h felt safe and cruising up there for a good couple of seconds on a straight stretch (with some water build ups here and there) felt relatively safe. Much more safe than the RE004 that I run on my other car. They are comfortable, quiet and grippy. For the price, I think the benefits you get from them are justified. My only issue with them is that they are sensitive to tire pressure changes. Their behavior changes drastically - even with 10kpa or 1PSI of difference you can feel the difference. It can be anything from weird noises or slight understeer. I found that following the factory recommendation for your specific car will give the best grip. There is no need for me to reduce the tire pressure to gain more traction on spirited drives. It could be because of how the sidewalls are made and sharing some characteristics with the AD09. Cheers!
Someone with a 500HP Hellcat said the tires were grippy on rolling starts and will gain back traction at about 30MPH / 48km/h if you were to launch it. Some 300-400HP drift cars run these tires too. So the real question might be what type of driving do you intend to do when you get them cause it might be great at one thing and just decent at another.

How’s the wet handling & braking ?

@ thanks for the reply! I’m contemplating between the Yoko V601 & Michelin PS5 as I do occasional weekend spirited mountain drive at genting.
