    When I was a kid, at a card show, I wanted to buy 2 single cards, my dad said “For $60, let’s get a whole box of cards instead”. The box of cards we got = 1987 Fleer Basketball wax (not bad), the 2 cards I wanted = 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan RCs! 😩

    If it makes you feel better I would have passed on it also. My worst mistake was in 1980 when I got back into collecting. My local comic/card store owner tried like heck to talk me into buying a 1959 Bob Gibson RC for $12, I passed & have regretted it to this day! Happy ending, my son bought the card for me a few years ago.

    Buy the cards for the love of the game, for the emotional attachments, for the fun. If they are nothing but $$$, then you lost the original intent of collecting cards. We never cared if the card was dented or off center. Collect for the love, love what you collect. My major blunder was selling my Billy Martin baseball cards to eat because I didn't have two nickels to rub together. Ps. Yes I've given away or mangled cards worth hundreds of thousands. It's part of the flip.

    This is a genuine vid and respect to the hobby bro. We have all been there and have done something like that at some point in our hobby lives. But being a good and honest collector buyer/seller will always even things out. Great videos! Don’t give up bro just keep doing what you are!

    THIS is EXACTLY the type of video that haunts me! I got back into the hobby during COVID and over the next few years I've accumulated 50,000 or so cards and ... I'm NOT smart enough to be able to just "leaf through them" and pull out all of the valuable ones! AND I don't have enough time to go card-by-card looking up each card! So, therein lies the thing of nightmares ... wondering what I'm missing, passing over, about to sell for one one thousandth its worth, etc., etc., etc.
    Sorry you missed out, but I DO appreciate the honesty!

    • @PickingandPunchingCards
      @PickingandPunchingCards  วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Thanks! Your best bet would be to find someone who has more knowledge than you. Have them go through and pull out anything that they know is valuable. There some card shops that will pull up comp values in front of you and offer you a % below that. You just got to find a trust worthy one.

    So I walk into a LCS and I'm eyeballing Mahomes' PSA 10 RCs for $100 right before his big contract. I passed on them. Then a guy comes up to me after talking to the owner trying to sell his entire 5000 ct box of cards for $100. I overheard the owner telling him if the Brady RC was real it would be worth some money. I could tell he was making my GF nervous, so I told him I wasn't interested and that eBay was a great place to sell your cards. 😂
    If it makes you feel any better, I wouldn't have had the patience to look through every card to even get there. Probably never would've even noticed. However, I was buying Brady like crazy last holiday season and am always a Brady buyer. So, if I would've seen it, I likely would've bought it.

    Ugh sorry man - that sucks - great video though - we all make mistakes and I agree the back of that card with the mail away info doesn’t make it look overly exciting. I’ve made a ton of memorabilia mistakes but my biggest card mistake was selling a jordan rookie that I pulled from a pack as a kid far too soon - got it graded ( a 7) and sold it in the 2000’s for a fraction of what they bring now

      @@PickingandPunchingCards yup understandable...but unless you are absolutely sure you dont want it, i would put it in the 'pile' as usually the seller makes a great deal and has throw ins at the end. Also, there may be other people going through the boxes at the same time and you dont want to put it back and let them get it before you make your final decision specially if you are not sure yet. Imagine if someone grabbed it in front of you when you put it back...the pain would even be more. Anyway, weve all had bad buying/selling experience. In most cases if you are not sure..buy it..the ones that got away sting more than the ones i over paid for he he.

    Thanks for sharing this and bummer on the loss dude I feel your pain but hey you got some other great deals so still a win just not as good as it could of been and my biggest loss was In 1992 my uncle took me to go get some stuff from our local convenience store and he let me buy a pack of score well I pulled at that time my biggest hit and I pulled a Joe DiMaggio auto well after going home put in my top loader well a little while later as we lived in a trailer my mom owned she lost the trailer while having it in storage as she had moved us into an actual house that card was in it and I lost it always missed that card not so much for its fiscal value as much as the sentimental value and now 30 years later I still miss that card

    What planet are you from that you think that's a $5000 card? Dec 20th sale on E-Bay for $100. Previous sale before that $199. My dude, there was one "sale" on E-Bay for $5000 which was an auction. And the seller relisted the card, which means the bidder didn't buy it!
    At $30, it was a good deal, but its not a $5000 card by a longshot!

    2 things i want to tell you : 1- you can’t consider something you didn’t buy cause you didn’t felt it was worth much as a ‘lost’. A lost is something you actually purchased and sell for less than you bought it for. 2- you did got out of there with a pretty good deal for what you picked up. I understand how you feel but i think i can be the voice of all collectors here by saying that we all have passed on cards that thought were not worth much by going in bins. It’s all about the knowledge of the cards and it’s simply impossible to know everything since the variety is so wide if you consider you need to know about 4 major sports + everything that is not sports related.. So don’t sleep on it for too long, you’ll rebound off this.. :-)
