I was watching a bunch of these videos the past few days.. And i noticed the ones from the UK, people seem to not cause a pileup as the ones ive watched from the USA where tons of cars get wrecked in a pile. But both countries have a problem with people not using the correct tires for the situation. Even videos filmed in Snow Belt of NY and MN for example, people still using street tires not made for winter weather.
Well, you've clearly never driven on a road completely covered in black ice. The fact that she didn't hit anything surely is a fairly good indication of success.
One can clearly see that most people commening here never had to drive on real slick black ice....driver did a good job and "real" 4x4 would not have done it much better. The key are winter tires....not so much the 4x4 system or even manufacturer.
You are right to a degree, it's all about tyres, but a proper 4x4 like my Shogun sends power to all 4 wheels with no fluid couplings and it has locking differentials which help. I do have snow rated tyres on too but ironically it's been floods more than snow since forever!
As someone who never had snow where I live and only seen it on vacations (when I'd rather take a cab than drive) and never experienced ice on roads, I have no idea how to deal with it, but I'm a little curious... what are you supposed to do if you absolutely had to get out and rive in such weather? Use chains? Studs? Doesn't that cause a lot of wear on the roads?
It’s funny how car manufacturers use 4x4 systems and then fit summer tyres rendering them useless on snow and ice lol 😂 A fwd hatch with winters or even all seasons would run rings around the Volvo 😂
Yes a good job getting ut, but what I don't understand, if it was that bad in the parking lot, I would have reparked the car and went inside. If the parking lot at the complex was that icy, wouldn't the streets be also???? Or am I missing something?
And people still say "You don't need winter tyres in Britain" while winter tyres and AWD/4x4 are not infallible on ice/black ice they do help and offer safer driving in all weather conditions during winter than standard summer tyres . It just makes sense seeing as your car is relying on four pieces of rubber each the size of a postcard to keep you on the road
21jg130 I agree living in Canada I doubt the OEM tires that Volvo used which were Pirelli Tires did the best in any of the seasons. I had some on the factory rims and then a separate set of good Winter tires on rims but sold them all to put the Yokohama geolander on as they're the All Weather tires that defeat All Seasons and look forward to testing them out this Winter.
I realise that unlike some jurisdictions, dedicated snow or studded Winter tyres are NOT legally required in the UK. However when conditions are THAT icy, then anyone sensible would stay blimmin' home. If you HAD to drive then you should probably have 4WD or AWD, *AND* then you should have snow-chains fitted as well. ONLY the addition of supplemental devices such as snow tyre chains, "snow-sox", those "cable-tie temporary snow grippers" or the alligator tail type snow chains etc will give decent traction when ice is THAT bad. Snow chains just on the front wheels of FWD are usually ok, but stick snow chains on all 4 wheels of a 4WD/AWD and then you can be getting places with reasonable safety... then you just need to watch out for all the other crazies on the road crashing into you.
I wouldn't go out if the weather was like that I would just cabin up for a week it doesn't last long we're I live anyway in the North East because I am near the sea it's not worth the extra insurance on your car if you're car gets damaged nevermind the other car you would loose your 70% no claims bonus anyway its just not worth it unless you have money behind you it won't affect you as much I understand that some people haven't got that luxury but I have so I am staying in i claimed of my car insurance when I was younger by skidding on ice and hitting a parked car and my insurance went up next year when I went to renew my policy, / sod that.that will never happen again But then again I never used to think that way in my 20s but I do now in my late 50s , it's called life experiences . When you are younger you have the energy but not the knowledge and when you are older you have got the knowledge but not the energy lol
sadly before you realize its a woman you keep asking yourself " why does he keep using the wrong lock ?" have an xc90 myself and its never left me stranded ( I appreciate the uk never gets really bad )
why do other countries manage fine, but at the first hint of snow, this country falls to bits lol :o) Love the choice of music ;o) Even the timing of the music looks perfect lol ;o) To be honest, I would have been out there pushing the Volvo lol That said, the Volvo driver does appear to be completely clueless, I've seen drivers like that before and actually driven their cars out of trouble for them :o)
Stuart Davies I mean, I slid down a hill yesterday in a jeep patriot with winter tires yesterday. Black ice gives no traction even if you have winter tires. The only thing that might help are studs or chains which are both illegal in Ontario
Liam, the optional "Winter Mode" on an XC90 has a very specific use. Its not perfect but it does help a lot on ice and snow .. volvoxc90site.com/w-button-xc90-winter-mode-heres

Nimrods come from every country. Russians just add vodka to everything
Suggestion for the Volvo driver: if the road is so slippery tires don't have traction, stay home.
anyway ...he is an idiot driver !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's just no fun for us to watch these bafoons
Why? She was clearly equal to the task.
good choice of music
The choice of music is appropriate.
Good XC90 bad driver...
Well, you've clearly never driven on a road completely covered in black ice. The fact that she didn't hit anything surely is a fairly good indication of success.
A tip: you can watch movies on kaldroStream. Me and my gf have been using them for watching lots of of movies these days.
@Amos Royal yea, I've been watching on Flixzone} for months myself =)

Chriscovery well said, avoiding a collission is good driving. People may not know XC90 is AWD Not 4WD
Bullshit. Give your head a massive wobble. How can you say this is good driving? Surrender your license.
The best thing is to have a set of Z-cables available if you live in a climate where this could happen. They are like money in the bank.

Thank you for the wonderful music because without it..I wouldn’t have had the patience to watch this video 😂🤦🏾♀️

I feel really bad for that volvo. Driver just need lada samara with that skills!
*I came here for winter spills and chilling daredevil fearlessness. I didn't find any of that here, but the Music was quite lovely, I dare say. ( ;)*
Good old XC90. But wrong tyres
even snow chains would have done it
Hopefully she's driving straight to a tire shop to get winter tires.

And the first thing the popped into my head upon hearing that music, Elite :) I wonder who has a clue what I'm on about lol
Damn it; I bought a Swedish Volvo SUV and on ice it's as bas as the others! Yes, you dumb, only tires make the difference...
Capable SUV let down by a useless driver. "Its not the tool but the tradesman that uses it that determines results"
I wouldn't go out if the weather was like that I would just cabin up for a week it doesn't last long we're I live anyway in the North East because I am near the sea

Не умеешь ездить - ходи пешком!!! Или на такси. А то чуть заскользило и уже паника.
Here let me just sandwich myself between these cars and wait and see what happens when they try to move
Very careful driver
He's really having a hard time.
I think some of these drivers should take up sado-masochism, at least they could be kept chained up at home when the weather is bad.
How the hell did she climb that hill in the first place??
Arr the best way to drive on black ice is to give it full throtle and handbrake haha good fun even in penrith
Winter tires? Noooo! Tire chains? Nooooo! Winter never come!
sadly before you realize its a woman you keep asking yourself " why does he keep using the wrong lock ?" have an xc90 myself and its never left me stranded ( I appreciate the uk never gets really bad )

This is why I always drive on studded tyres during winter season...
Ok in Sweden but illegal in the UK 👍
@ 3.37 pointing the wheels right while trying to go left is not the sign of a good successful driver. clueless and lucky more like;y
Ice and Strauss
the front end of the car is telling them which way to go! "DOWN" not up HELLO!
Surrender license immediately. Danger to other road users. Clearly not capable of being behind the wheel.
"Nah it's fine! I got this. No problemo."
".... Actually? I might just stay inside today."
Park it
Winter tyres are really good in snow but make no difference on solid ice as they have nothing for the tread to cut into.
This statement is simply false.
That's just bad driving.
Maple Delight black ice as extreme as that would have caused difficulty no matter what tyres or drive system you have.
Haven't they heard of grit in the lakes lol
good driving
Полный привод то не работает! Наверное втулку угловой срезало нафиг.
3:46 всё работает, на xc90 стоит xaldex аля подобие на 4*4
Well it seems women drive the same way all over the globe.
4x4 yes :D
I have a 4x4 but don't know how to use it, I though it went anywhere
@RetroGamerVX Standing up on this stuff is next to impossible. Pushing the car would have been a non starter...
😩
Is getting to where you're going that important?
Never mind the weather, the fact someone is driving a Rover at the start is more frightening
Buys a 4x4 and runs summer tyres on it, my Lr4 goes up steep ice roads no problems with snow/ice winter tyres.
super spiegelglatt und rutschig, einfach nur geil.
is that craig walk?
CLUELESS
Love the music. It's right on.... lol
She was lucky that was a Volvo.
Pauvre XC90
good music
So turned on
it was a woman in a volvo? besides she doesn't the W button for winter mode
the insurance company must check again this bad driver... :)
Not a good drivers and no winter tyres
That's all
Obviously didn't chose Volvo's "Winter Mode" option when purchasing.

Oh, I know what you mean, my S60 had it. My bad, I thought you meant Volvo's winter tire/ wheel package.
However, my 2015 V60 doesn't have it, so it's possible that Volvo just integrated it into the ECU and transmission programming
