I am working on a manual input reef monitoring web tool for people who don’t want or find the initial cost of the controller and reagents too much to warrant, once ready is this something you would be interested using?
Yup! I started simple: display tank, built my own stand with paint, sump, plumbing with valves, lights with plugin wall timer, skimmer, etc. Then moved to WiFi light controller and WiFi dosing pump instead hand-dosing, auto-top off because manual topping off was a chore, etc. So now just refill dosing container, clean skimmer cup, feed fish/corals, and refill auto top off container. My restored free-time: priceless. Pick the tech you REALLY need and go with that. Spend the good bucks on the equipment most important to the build. Anything sort of optional can use budget-minded gear or better yet if makes sense, buy pre-owned top-shelf stuff! Cheers! 😎👍🏼
The thousands of dollars I spent on the garbage apex system because of these biased videos. Idiotic. People, do your research. I'd buy an analog timer before I'd trust another neptune product. It's a shame that BRS makes no mention of the Hydros. But then again, why would the walmart of reefing do anything to promote a product that is much better than the trash products from a company that they own, at a price that far exceeds the quality and durability. Read the other comments here and look into a Hydros. There is a reason why BRS is not mentioning it and trying to hide it. Its far superior, in all aspects.
It's true that everything fails, those that embrace that will be 100x more successful than those that don't . The most productive way use that knowledge is what are the highest percentage paths that avoids to deals with those failures. In the case that you mentioned where if something goes wrong and I get no alarm it's a very low percentage path. if I had a monitor I could call a friend to do something about it which is a higher percentage path. If I had a controller I could just turn off the offering gear or turn on something that solves it and that's an even higher percentage path. In the end, just take the council that fits and leave the rest. We are all just doing the best we can :)
@BRStv - Saltwater Aquariums & Reef Tanks Not against all in one controller, more for monitoring. Most people who lose power also lose the internet. If you get a notice, it will be a disconnect from cloud services. So much of the equipment today have built in controllers. I can access and turn off or on any piece of equipment and some I can control away from home. I may, at some point, invest in a monitoring system for trends. The only equipment in 40 plus years that failed on me were jebao pumps, so I won't use them. I like technology but have always kept things simple. I have downsized from 300 gallon display to 100 gallon display. I use to go on vacations 2-3 weeks at a time. I may invest to monitor things since I am retired and may want to be gone for a month at a time. I don't consider myself an expert as it has always just been a hobby.
If his bosses force him to “hide” the competition, they are idiots. It does a disservice to their content by making them look biased after years of winning the respect of the hobbyists. He should just talk about all the options and if they want the business to come to their brand, make sure the product blows the competition out of the water!
I am not going to bash BRS. They are a business and have to make money. I buy from a few online suppliers who ever have it in stock at the best price. Prices everywhere have gone up. I just hope they survive the investors. We need multiple suppliers.

Agreed
Hydros!
That was perfect. You need to know the back up will work when I need it not guess.
I need one

On vacation a long way from home, there is no tank sitter. Now you get alarm and ruin your vacation. Even controllers fail.

Remember when BRS seemed fair and equitable in videos? Where's Hydros when talking controllers? Corporate sellout Ryan. Very disappointed in BRS.

I have a wifi power bar I use. I love it. Controlled from my phone anywhere and it was only $50. Never have to worry again!
That definitely isn't enough!
@@Pontiuspilate666 yeah huh
