From what I understand, there are no plans for a new realm to visit in minecraft. So if you follow the context clues that Game Theorist did, one might conclude that the ancient city is in ruins because of the skulk taking over and the Warden killing and/or scaring the city inhabitants away. And that the big monument is in fact a portal to the realm the skulk came from, but it's so dangerous that any means to open that portal have long since been lost or destroyed to prevent anyone from going back, or more so, keeping anymore skulk from coming through. And the skulk itself is a living organism that works like a hivemind, I'll point to Stranger Things and the tentacles and Mindflayer as a loose example. It consumed most of the city and surrounding areas which is why things don't spawn there. And so when a player enters and sets off the shriekers enough times, the skulk is able to create the Warden to defend itself from harm. This is a lot tamer than some of the more popular mods like the taint from thaumcraft. I personally would love to see them implement that mysterious realm the skulk came from, actually get confirmation on the game's lore and what is and isn't happening in the narrative, and see if what Game Theorist said is true or close to the truth
I notice when you break skulk blocks that it groans, as if in pain. This would make sense if it were a hivemind organism that created wardens as a defense mechanism.

One thing I’ve noticed is that Java Edition’s cities have way more sculk in them than the Bedrock ones. It’s actually fairy easy to raid a city on Bedrock, of the ones I’ve found. It’s much harder on Java

My first ancient city, I got killed by the warden when I placed a torch on top of a wool block thinking it would muffle the sound but nope, last scream, dead. I came back much later and better prepared, I found that an eff V hoe will break a screamer before it can shriek. I took out a lot of screamers. I found the redstone room under the "portal" breaking through a wall only because I knew it was supposed to be there. However I only found one loot chest in the whole city, I must have done something wrong if there are supposed to be more.
I found the enchanted golden apple, ate it and nothing opened! I don't get it. I followed a wrong guide I think...it said to go under the bridge and eat the apple, no door opened, I went back up to, back under, walked up to the walls on both sides under the bridge, nothing, then the effect wore off and that was that, one wasted enchanted apple.
given how elaborate the ancient cities are, i really really hope they go above and beyond again for design if they ever redo nether fortresses and strongholds

Okay so hear me out. I don't think that portal will lead to a sculk dimension that the sculk came from or anything. I think it's the other way around: sculk was always in the overworld, that's why it's everywhere down below. The outsiders are actually an intelligent civilization (perhaps dwarvelike, based on the architecture). They found out how to make portals and reached the overworld, but appeared in the deeps. They discovered a new mineral: redstone! It seemed to do magic things, so they started investigating how it behaved and what it could be useful for. However the new world they found had a problem: sculk. The dark blue-green thing seemed funny at first, with its tentacles and sensors. However, they found out the hard way that it was not friendly, soon after the screaming started. Wjen the sculk started taking over their new-built city, the few citizens that survived had to fall back through the portal, shut it down, and hope the sculk hadn't already followed them there.
I really like this idea. The thought of some dark and creepy dimension never seemed that interesting since we already have the Nether, but this opens up new possibilities.
My theory (please read) Maybe that centerpice WAS a portal and is not a working portal anymore... Maybe not a new dimension because according to me there is already one scary dimension - nether. What do you think tell me in replies...

They have been working on caves and cliffs for over a year now and still cannot get fireflies right? Speaking of wither, I spawned a Wither in an Ancient City to have it fight the Warden, and it was total DESTRUCTION. So many hostile mobs died, there was experience literally everywhere, and on top of that, THE WARDEN COMPLETELY DESTROYED THE WITHER!!!!
If it turns out to not be another dimension portal, then the lore for it could be the ancient city residents corrupted the portal so it could never work or something like that to prevent skulk spread.
I definitely think that structure in the middle is a portal. I think the villagers who once lived in the Deep Dark Ancient Cities went through the portal to another realm when the Wardens showed up. I think the Wardens were once golems that got infected by the skulk. I hope eventually we will get to light the portals and travel to an entirely new dimension with villagers and new loot, biomes, etc.! If not, that is, at least, the lore I have built for my world!!
im pretty sure the warden came out of the portal like the ancient builder found another portal thingy and decided to turn it on then the warden bust out of the portal, killing everyone and infecting the place then one of the ancient builder managed to close the portal

It was a failed attempt by the maker to spawn the Warden from the center "Frame" If you get to creative and place the "Reinforced Deepslate" in a 20 x 20 frame and place on top of it a Sculk Catalyst and one 'Sculk block' and per 5 'four' sculk sensor in each corner and 'one shrieker' or in any bigger format 'would have spawned a Warden' but the effect probably did not completely went as expected but instead looks like a sacrifical bath...

The thing is that you can go in the ancient city without armour and weapons and you'd be fine as much as with netherite gear. So IMO it's a perfect place to explore immediately in a hardcore world, you'd get good loot quickly and worst case scenario you die in a hardcore world in the first couple of hours. The only "gear" i recommend is a bunch on wool blocks. So maybe farm some wool first which is easy to do in early game.
The ancient city portal is definitely a portal an the smaller ones are Tribute to the big portal that teleport to an new Dimension if I had to say ancient civilization dimension where there probably will be villagers that are way more advanced than the ones we see with really awesome loot an if i had to guess the portal colour would probably be around the blueish teal with different effects then the end portal and nether portal is my guess 😝😁

You should be able to make infested wool in any color by unaliving a mob on top of it, no? Just make a wool block floor and drop an inoculation skulk block in your skulk farm? (maybe even spotted wool carpet?)
My theory is that Steve's Ancestors built the ancient cities. Some time later, long after Abandonment, the Illagers came and investigated them, which is why some structures seem repaired with Dark Oak, and the Camps structures are what was left of tents or "camps" the Illagers stayed in. This would also be where the Illagers got the Allay.
I think its very likely that the portal in the ancient cities does indeed lead to a new dimension, think about it, the recovery compass might be used for this dimension since its basically useless for the overworld, nether and end since its most likely that in this 4th dimension you are going to die quite a few times "Unless your on hardcore". Now this new dimension wont be coming anytime soon, it will most likely be added in either 1.23 or 1.24 "The Echo Dimension" Update, so a few updates to the overworld and of course an end update afterwards it will be most likely that the portal in the ancient cities will be activate and will take us to a new dimension know as "The Echo" in possibly 1.24 or 1.23, most likely 1.24 since the number 4, Now? what would the theorized Echo Dimension look like? Well that's up to concept art, and ideas anyways whats your opinion on this comment?.

Does anyone know the theory for this: if deepslate blocks including tiles and brick from ancient cities were able to be infected by sculk catalyst and create shriekers that can summon a warden. But if you go kill a mob in the same exact ancient city, the sculk only affects deepslate just regular deepslate not cobbled deepslate or bricks, they get turned into sculk veins instead and the sculk catalyst that don't do anything. Trigger them as many times as you want. What happened to the sculk overtime? Was it so powerful and weakened over time?
Has Mojang simply dropped the ancient city and it's portal? I've heard *nothing* about it for 1.20. They put what appears to be hundreds of hours into its development, only to be left all alone as it is. So weird.
Guys most of you probably know this but I just found out if you take a hir with mending and efficiency 5 into a ai cent city and just starting mining away at all the skulk you will find so many diamonds in at 27 deep lasts ores with my silk touch pickaxe when I get to my base I’m probably gonna get a stack with my fortune pickaxe
I think its a new dimension they want to make soon probably for 1.19 itself, but seemed to be abit too much at the moment as they had to delay many things from 1.18 to 1.19 itself as well like the warden. The warden was planned to be in 1.18 but failed to make it.

My theory is that Steve's Ancestors built the ancient cities. Some time later, long after Abandonment, the Illagers came and investigated them, which is why some structures seem repaired with Dark Oak, and the Camps structures are what was left of tents or "camps" the Illagers stayed in. This would also be where the Illagers got the Allay.

I think its very likely that the portal in the ancient cities does indeed lead to a new dimension, think about it, the recovery compass might be used for this dimension since its basically useless for the overworld, nether and end since its most likely that in this 4th dimension you are going to die quite a few times "Unless your on hardcore". Now this new dimension wont be coming anytime soon, it will most likely be added in either 1.23 or 1.24 "The Echo Dimension" Update, so a few updates to the overworld and of course an end update afterwards it will be most likely that the portal in the ancient cities will be activate and will take us to a new dimension know as "The Echo" in possibly 1.24 or 1.23, most likely 1.24 since the number 4, Now? what would the theorized Echo Dimension look like? Well that's up to concept art, and ideas anyways whats your opinion on this comment?.
dryness in relation to finding an ancient city means how often it rains, not if there is water nearby (that's what I heard anyway)
Don't tell Eyecraft fans that. I commented about them making it a portal one day and had so many "MOJANG SAID THEY'D NEVER ADD ANOTHER DIMENSION" and it's just so hard to ignore that many people 🤦🏻♂️ I'm excited for the future of Minecraft though
Does anyone know the theory for this: if deepslate blocks including tiles and brick from ancient cities were able to be infected by sculk catalyst and create shriekers that can summon a warden.
But if you go kill a mob in the same exact ancient city, the sculk only affects deepslate just regular deepslate not cobbled deepslate or bricks, they get turned into sculk veins instead and the sculk catalyst that don't do anything.
Trigger them as many times as you want. What happened to the sculk overtime? Was it so powerful and weakened over time?
Has Mojang simply dropped the ancient city and it's portal? I've heard *nothing* about it for 1.20. They put what appears to be hundreds of hours into its development, only to be left all alone as it is. So weird.

Guys most of you probably know this but I just found out if you take a hir with mending and efficiency 5 into a ai cent city and just starting mining away at all the skulk you will find so many diamonds in at 27 deep lasts ores with my silk touch pickaxe when I get to my base I’m probably gonna get a stack with my fortune pickaxe
I think its a new dimension they want to make soon probably for 1.19 itself, but seemed to be abit too much at the moment as they had to delay many things from 1.18 to 1.19 itself as well like the warden. The warden was planned to be in 1.18 but failed to make it.
