    • @headhunterssticksandcreati7334
      @headhunterssticksandcreati7334 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Try the Crossovers, that’s one of the strokes we designed this stick to handle. Also, every thing we design and the materials us d have a natural dynamic range. If any drummer exceeds that, then the result are what you can expect. It is up to a drummer to develop the skill sets to determine how best to play in a dynamic musical situation. Otherwise maybe play another instrument that has an amplifier and a volume control.

I replaced the single broken rods. We had a rehearsal with a new guitar player and while all the others talked I repaired my Hot rods. I think those crossover sticks are for reggae, when you want to rimclick almost everything, and the design will give you the sound of holding the stick upside down, a common technique by reggae drummers to enhance the sound of their rimclick.

    • @headhunterssticksandcreati7334
      @headhunterssticksandcreati7334 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Crossovers are a combined stick and bundled rod concept. We leave the skin on the bamboo rods so they are much stronger than standard rods. Because Crossovers are made on a stick platform, they are rimshot and cross-sticking friendly. We drill a hole in the end and insert and epoxy in the bundle of bamboo. Right t the base where the bamboo bundle is connected, there is ‘an enlarged area that is solid wood. This is the target zone when going onto the bell. The bell sound produced is just like a stick.The Crossover have a huge dynamic range. We have 7 models of Crossovers to cover just about anything!

    I have no Earthly idea how I wound up on your video, but I’m sure glad I did. This video was fascinating. I’m not a drummer. The closest thing I got to drums was back in high school. I was in the Flag Corps. in the marching band. In parade formation, the Flag Corps. was right behind the drumline (great movie, by the way lol). When practicing for the halftime shows, to save the field for game day, we’d use the back end of the Senior parking lot. We’d get into parade formation outside the band room, and march to the Senior parking lot, the drumline playing a cadence. When we were marching through the Senior parking lot, the drumline set off the car alarms. LMAO It was just so damn hilarious. At least us chicks in the Flag Corps. had to smile all the frickin’ time. So there is that. lol Anyhow, thank you so very much for the entertainment. ❤🥁❤

    Cool review on the sticks...
    I am learning how to play Timbales and for practice I use a heavy thicker wooden tip stick made by VIC ...very comfortable for practicing.
    Then I have two more sets for the actual usage on the Timbales made by VIC ...no tip...exactly the ones that you kept is a two-tone color. I have 7/16, 5/8, 1/2 inch..don't like the feeling of plastic either. The sound is too dull.
    Great review..

    I do like these product tests on the channel and your opinions on their feel. But, I believe many of these products were tested/recorded incorrectly. Lots of these are meant to be played in an acoustic live application (room mics) and not on a close mic'd studio setup with in-ear monitors. How you would play, dynamics, and tambour will all change, often dramatically, when playing in that situation. This is where lots of these types of sticks, brushes, mallets, etc. shine.

      Very good comment Wd. It is very difficult to show case the ‘implement’ so that the viewer can fully appreciate the nuance and sound variation. I notice from many comments in the feed that a lot of drummers are strictly drum stick type players but hopefully videos like this and the importance that the addition of other types of implement to help make the modern 20th century drum set live into the 21, 22 and more. We all need to open our minds and be as creative as possible otherwise this instrument could go the way of the harpsichord....lets explore new ideas not just combinations and permutations of rhythmic patterns!!!

      Chris Goodwin ... I use brushes almost exclusively, and if it keeps me out of the clear cauldron, I’m happy to. Although, I’ve always had an affinity towards brushes [li’l cathartic for me] and would rather err on the side of quietness. I only have a bass, a barely mic’d keyboard and a couple voices to compete with tho. Hot rods for cross stick, and mallets for soft cymbals. Just recently switched to a similar but different set of thin steel brushes, and these have noticeably more rebound. So be choosy.
      Originally, I made a set of copper strand brushes out of an old CRT degaussing cable. Similar wire size, but softer sound than steel, and felt better on a djembe.
      Non-pro tip... I have my Med, and Fast crash stacked, Fast upside down, so I can get the brushes in between for a nice soft wash/swell, without switching to the mallets. Welp, didn’t mean to write a book, but there you have it.

      He had a line made by VF of different types of sticks and beaters. That was 20 years ago, all of those items were discontinued, just the timbale sticks are still in the catalog. I have the pair of Mazeta, which is a maple stick with a small felt ball on top. They were a perfect choice of stick for this one contemporary piece I played in college, but that's it. It's now just around my practice room for a conversation starter.

      You could!!! It is the exact same material. It’s called sorghum, they actually take forever to make, all made by hand, We actually sew them into a fan like a whisk or broom. Here’s the trick, we force the handle are into a rounded shaper and tape them so the feel is like a firm stick. Did you notice what Jard came back to the Cornhuskers and said he preferred them. We spend a lot of time figuring out how not just to make things sound right, we are all drummers....they have a I feel right, or what is the poin!!! Thanks for you funny comments! Dave

      @headhunterssticksandcreati7334 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Glad you noticed that!! I own the patent for this model. It is called Foam Core Multi-rod Drumstick. I designed it in 2004 and sold them as Stingers. I knew Steve Smith. In 2095, we were doing a clinic in Toronto at Soul Drums. Steve was into his Indian music at the time. He was performing with a tabla player, I brought the sticks, he played them and loved them. It took us several months to convince Vic to add them to the catalog. I gave Vic the exclusive rights to the design, we cancelled the contract in 2018, and they became Stingers again.
