guys, at the end she mentions that she is GOING TO A SPECIALIST! So stop jumping straight to the comments whining about „self diagnosis“ and „confirmation bias“ etc.
Hi Cartia! I think it’s amazing that you want to have open discussions about your mental health. As a psychology student it’s great to see people wanting to reduce the stigma around mental health. It is also important to discuss conditions/diagnoses that are not as commonly spoken about. There are many areas that need more research and there is a problem of over-diagnosis in many circumstances. However, if you’re not a qualified clinician/researcher I think it is a huge slippery slope to say you want to make an informative video on a topic you’re only learning about from podcasts. 100% podcasts can be amazing resources but when sharing information other people (professionals or not) have said things can get lost in translation/taken out of context. For example saying psychologists don’t scan the brain. Many clinics do, or hopefully refer someone to get scanned! Not all but saying all psychologists don’t is misinformed. Furthermore a lot of research focuses on observing brain activity/brain tissue mass in certain areas of the brain and seeing what behaviours etc correlate with that. I’m not invalidating you’re experience as it’s very clear it’s been a tough road for you but from what you’ve said it sounds like you haven’t seen a professional re the PCS? Self diagnosing is really dangerous - if you feel like you resonate with symptoms of PCS then go to a professional and discuss it with them. If you have been seeing a professional and have spoken to them about this then that’s awesome! I’m happy to see you’re taking your mental health seriously and opening a discussion up but please be careful with how you go about doing so! For your sake and the sake of others viewing 😊
Psychologists do use brain scans as methodology! For example, Psychologists predominantly use neuroimaging techniques such as EEG, fMRI, PET and MRI to inform their decision making. That statement is misinformed and could unintentionally persuade someone to not seek out help from evidence-based professionals that genuinely could help them. Doing a mental health series could be really impactful, but it's important to make sure the statements are supported by evidence so that we don't unintentionally send someone that could be struggling into more pain!
you should really do a mental health series called "coming back to Cartia" i too am experiencing a situation like yours and this past year mentally and physically has been the most challenging and i would love to see your raw process through it.. even now when you're feeling more you. love ya, you're not alone!!!
I really hope you don’t film this concussion video as you’re not really qualified to do so and may then spread false information. Please make sure your sources are SCIENTIFIC, peer-reviewed, scholarly articles. There are people who dedicate their entire research to these areas, and reading their work and studies they have conducted is essential. You may be doing more damage than good. Also, correlation does not equal causation. Your symptoms may correlate with your concussion, though it may also not be the cause. There may have also been a change you’re not taking into account that happened at the same time. And if this doesn’t apply to you, it may apply to someone else.
Agreed ^^ Maybe it would be beneficial to do a panel discussion with different allied health professionals who can all contribute - bringing different points of view and knowledge from their respective fields?
exactly! to be honest I resonate with a lot of what she's discussing about mental health, ("coming back to myself [Cartia]") however my trauma was from a previous abusive relationship and I didn't have a concussion...
your reaction to finding out about the pcs is so natural! I felt the same when I finally received a diagnosis for a chronic condition. It's like initial relief that you're not alone and then sadness/frustration that you had to battle it for so long without fully being understood or heard. I try to view it as a tool of growth as much as I can//appreciate that dealing with it has made me into a really empathetic person but that doesn't mean it isn't shitty that its gone under the radar for so long// doesn't mean you stop thinking of the life you could have had/person you could have been without it. sending love
please don't self-diagnose yourself, its very dangerous. Even though you were misdiagnosed previously, you can't say your have this syndrome just because you have been doing some reading and listened to podcasts. Go to a professional before claiming you have this. While its great that you have done your own research and now have some insight into the effects of concussion, you now need to be properly diagnosed (before you make a video on it!!) and btw many many psychologists use neuroimaging techniques.
Wow ! I feel for you girl. My boyfriend got a concussion... and he completely changed. The number one thing that made him worse is having alcohol... and things in that realm. This really prolonged the recovery process and made things worse. I hope you feel like yourself soon ❤️ god bless
But tbh anxiety can cause health issues and physical symptoms. Specially hypochondria (which you seem to have a tendency on, from the whole health-enthusiasm). I never had a concusion and I experience crazy ass physical shit.
Being enthusiastic about being healthy doesn’t = hypochondria. Hypochondria is a serious mental health issue and I don’t think you should be trying to diagnose people you don’t know or see in their day to day life.
Hey Cartia, I just wanted to pop on and say I'm sorry for everything you went through but I am glad you are finally getting some answers. It was hard hearing the sadness in your voice about how this impacted your friendships and relationships but keep in mind, everything happens for a reason. You are a shining light and have great people around you, I hope you keep feeling better and thank you for sharing your experience with us! Much love xxx
I would love for you to talk about your experience going to your nutrionist, what your symptoms were and what helped. Like for instance, your leaky gut, hormone imbalance, anxiety etc. I would really like to learn more about it as I'm myself is struggling from it and I think it can help many more that has the same issues
Please be careful making statements about mental health with information from podcasts only. Podcasts can be very useful but they don’t make you a psychologist. However, I think it’s so brave to speak up about the mental health issues you are personally dealing with! I’m all about breaking the stigma on talking about mental health!

I just lovveee the pink. I can’t get over how good it looks on you 💗💗💗
Carts!! I haven't gone through a injury yet I've been recently experiencing the similar mindset you're explaining where it was uncontrollable and feeling like somedays you really aren't making your own thoughts and its hard to manage the way you think, completely and totally frustrating for people who are so positive and generally very happy. It feels so good to see you feeling more like yourself IT SHOWS but also im excited to still follow your journey on this? and to hear how it soon wraps up for you xo
Yes please make the video on PCS! I've been struggling for years after a wreck with the same issues and I didn't start connecting that to the wreck until years after. It wasn't immediate for me either! You're not alone 💜
Love you heaps I’m so happy you’ve gotten your “ah hah” moment and are living so much happier. Taking care of your mental health is so important and I’m so glad you can others as well through your experiences 💛🌬✨🙌🌔🌊 sending Loads of Love
I would love you hear more about concussions! 1 and a half years ago I had one. Basically a pole was dropped directly on top of my head at work and since then I’ve never felt the same 😩 I’ve had weird health issues unexplainable and weird hormonal problems that nothing seems to fix..
The dying palm plant needs bright light!! (Not too close to the window that is gets frazzled but still bright light all day) it might be slightly too much in the shade in that corner:))
Currently dealing with PCS, 6 months post accident. Thank you so much for speaking out about this angel, means so much! Makes me feel less crazy 🥺🥺❤️ xxx
Thank you so much for talking about PCS!! After your video, and talking to doctors who didn't understand me, I am finally starting to get some help with a naturopath! I don't know if it will work but I definitely want to get a brain scan but my doctor wont let me at this point! Definitely super hard going through this and no one understanding how you feel. Thank you so much for this and I can't wait to see your development!! Also, can you let me know what scans you're getting done next week as Id love to look into it and talking about it to my doctor :)
So interesting about the brain health and mental health, your values really align with mine and you just opened a new realm for me to learn about and better myself in - so so thankful ❤
the exhaust petrol fumes from your Audi were going inside your house (6th minute of vlog) because you had the car running and it was reverse parked into the house door while you were speaking to the camera. always best when driving a petrol (ICE) car to get out of an enclosed garage within 1-2 seconds of starting the vehicle
I am so glad ro hear that you’re better and figuring out what has been going on with your mental health!❤️ as a psychology student this is really interesting to hear. I think it‘s weird that a psychiatrist/psychologist wouldn‘t ask about events like a concussion especially since those symptoms started so abruptly (I assume). But I also have to cut them some slack because we still know so little about mental health problems compared to a physical issue.
I feel like my mental health issues are connected to something deeper but I have no idea where to start. I’ll look into gut & brain health, hormonal imbalances, and adrenal fatigue.
me too! i was just diagnosed with ADD at 29 after seeing doctors since I was around 13, I felt the same as Cartia described when I finally found out what was wrong :(
Omg cartia I can relate to you 100% but I had a different thing happen to me that has been affecting my everyday for 2 years . I haven’t been me for that long 😣 love you thanks for sharing
How the brain lost it’s mind is a really good book and it talks about the links behind neurology and psychology About the links and the way they don’t work together and why Also what could happen if they did work together
your experience hits home for sure! Brain gut axis needs more attention- if I knew what I know now when I was younger I think I would have avoided a lot of really big ups and downs lol
guys, at the end she mentions that she is GOING TO A SPECIALIST! So stop jumping straight to the comments whining about „self diagnosis“ and „confirmation bias“ etc.
THANKYOUUUUUUU
i am seeing 2 specialists !!!! I respect everyones comments but I am getting information from proper sources .
