In 1975, Watermelon Man by Cannonball Adderley had been someone our high school band teacher listened then wrote the music for our high school jazz band while never forgetting the marching band playing Watermelon Man in the center of a county fairground horse show oval mixing jazz with unbridled spirited cavalry especially within the Commonwealth of #Kentucky Greenup County Greenup Tigers, music is best here! thank you kindly for sharing this amazing session. 🐬
These masters of their art are just my era of music. I was Nineteen at the time and was lucky enough to see every one of these gentleman at that time. Thank you for the rebroadcast
According to Rahsaan Roland Kirk's wikipedia page, in 1975 (same year as this show), _"Kirk suffered a major stroke which led to partial paralysis of one side of his body. He continued to perform and record, modifying his instruments to enable him to play with one arm.... He died from a second stroke in 1977, aged 42...."_ Lots of other interesting info on his wiki page, including the fact that Jay Leno used to open for him.
This is an amazing, historic show. Thanks for this. I was not surprised that Chick Corea took top honors on electric piano, but I was surprised to hear Quincy say this was the first year they *had* an electric piano category. Wow. I imagine it was similar for electric bass, but I don't know what year they created that category. And this show started my obsession with Rahsaan Roland Kirk, as well. And my first introduction to Weather Report. Airto's amazing solo during Hubbard's tune. I mean -- truly a life-changing show for me.
The three who gave a thumbs down must be deaf...was lucky to see Weather Report twice also Sonny Rollins and McCoy Tyner this was truly a great show thank you for posting
Agree. But it's also too bad they didn't get the next incarnation of Weather Report in the 1976 awards show.. Jaco would have blown the roof off the place. That said, Stanley Clarke in 1976 was still one of the most exciting bass players on the planet. As you can see from his playing on Lopsy Lu in the 1976 show. What a great time for jazz and fusion. oh my.
You know, if Jesus Christ had his second coming and appeared on TV to tell everyone about it but he happened to have gum in his mouth, people would be like, "my God, what an inconsiderate gross rapscallion"

but Herbie Hancock. best weigh this for a bit. 🐬
Freddie Hubbard the man makes that trumpet sing.
THE MAN that makes the tp STING ...
The tremendously great and extremely underrated Alphonso Johnson on fretless bass with Weather Report.
Totally agree - many think that Jaco was the master of that staccato walking funk style of playing but Alphonso already had it down!
@@fusionfan6883 yes he totally did.
The magic of youtube..
On a tuesday afternoon, you discover that this is out there..
All the giants..
Chick should have brought bubblegum enough for everybody…
I can't believe no one told him to take that out of his mouth! Maybe he had a dry mouth condition...
so few cats could ever make sonny rollins sound so mild.......

I almost forgot about this type of comment. Actually kind of makes me *glad* the "thumbs up/down" feature is gone.
Freddie and Airto can't be beat! Man I was stunned seeing this back then. Two great CTI artists, I remain a huge fan of both.
I remember when this show first aired. What a psych! Thanks for posting this.
pure magic man...wow love it
Only looking at Sonny Rollins charge me as a Tesla battery.
Fantastic video! I see Chick Corea chewing gum like a baseball player. RIP.
Wow, Stanley was just a baby, lol, years later still kickin ass.
This is so crazy hot!
It doesn't get better than this....if it did I died and went to heaven.....
Rashaan is a bad man...
On any given night he can wipe out anyone..... The Mingus at Carnegie Hall LP shows Roland at full chat.....
The gods of music are all here.
Thank you so much! Great to see Weather Report 75 version.

STUNNING !!!!
A great show but someone should have made Chick spit out his gum before his cohosting duties began.
I don't know why that happened either. So unprofessional!
WoW! 🙏❤❤❤
Zawinul dressed like a Bedouin is pretty funny.
3:00_3:02 the great sound
"THE ESSENCE OF EXCELLENCE" - IS QUINCY H7MSELF ....(the 7 that came was UNintentional ! ) ...
