September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and I am so excited to share our family's story with you in conjunction with a month-long campaign to raise awareness for mental health issues and share resources for those looking for hope.
This 'DocuShort' Video Story was born out of a song that I wrote called, "Bittersweet Sixteen." It is the story of my family's life-long battle with mental illness. It is the story of my sixteenth birthday when my mom last attempted suicide. As I knit this video together I found myself wanting to tell a great story that would inspire people to hope again and bring healing to a much hurting world. But over time I started to feel overwhelmed and began to question the entire project. As I took this tension to God in prayer I sensed a profound reply, "I haven't asked you to tell a GREAT story. I've just asked you to tell YOUR story." And just like I remember, He is God and I am not.
I do pray this helps you invite God into your story in a whole new way and causes your heart to look up from your pain and set your eyes on the God who heals, restores and makes beauty out of the worst situations.
After you watch I invite you to join a movement that is bigger than yourself with 3 easy steps:
    WATCH the video.
SHARE it with friends and family via email and social media.
ASK. Be the one to end stigma around mental health issues by opening up conversations with those around you. BE THE ONE to show that it's okay to talk about it.
