tting in a glade in the sandias in n.m, and i was surrounded by them, for hours. funny how you don't know it's the last hike on a given trail until it was....
🥰 As I am hearing this beautiful bird singing...........I can hear a cardinal singing in my pear tree. These moments are precious and priceless. ♥♫♫♪♪♪🐦
Sweet! I'm listening to this thrush sing and playing it outside to the red cardinals, bluejays and sparrows. If there's a thrush then I'll draw it out, but it's another bird sound added to my existing choir!! All I need now is some frogs croaking and a kayak or hammock, I'll be calm and absent for hours.
I love the hermit thrush’s song! It seems timely that you post this now. I am from Nova Scotia, but am visiting a friend in Lewisporte, my first trip out of province since the pandemic began. Two nights ago he took me to one of his favorite remote lakes, a long bumpy ride in by 4x4 on a network of washed out, over grown logging roads. Just at sunset, while we were drifting on the lake in kayaks, a hermit thrush began singing, his song mingling with the equally unearthly sound of snipes winnowing over head. It was magical. Thank you, as always, Lesley. I do so enjoy your videos.
I am also from Nova Scotia, a couple years ago we were kayaking in Porter's Lake on dead calm evening after a rain storm, the sun set below the clouds and there was a very loud hermit thrush singing from a fir tree near the shore. I sat in my boat and listened to it for probably half an hour. Their song is otherworldly!
I was serenaded by a few of them, just yesterday afternoon; singing to me from within a long, dense, narrow, riparian woodland strip, at the edge of a quaint cemetery. It was lovely; so lovely, so emotionally auspicious.
one of the many pleasures of the far northern wisconsin woods in the summer. such soothing and calming song, as if from the heavens as we are bathed by the woods.
I've definitely heard this song while camping, but didn't know enough about birdsong to identify it. I feel like we need a video of each common bird singing its song. It would help a lot of us with our identifications.
I posted an amusing meme I found, if birds had arms, on my FB. Some awesome Photoshopping shows a bird singing & playing guitar. Hermit thrush would fit right in! The good part of being old & sleeping poorly means a front row seat to the dawn songs of many species. Thanks for these highlights Lesley!
So lovely! So hard to describe! First heard this little bird in 1997 when my husband (Rick) and I were 🏕 in a Michigan State Park in the UP. Took a long time for me to find out who the singer was. Thanks for the video! Joy S (not Rick) from Northern Indiana
Thanks, LesleytheBirdNerd ✨a mated pair of Hermit Thrushes frequented my yard one Spring . . . They sang, they flitted, they did their wiggle dance hunting for worms 💖 enchanting people
It can be so hard to describe what I feel inside of me when I listen to him and just birds in general. I am a pianist and composer and nature has captivated me in so many way where I get lost in the sounds I hear. Hearing the hermit thrush and other birds brings such a state of peace in me for a long time and nature will continue to leave a very intimate part in my life and music.
This bird has such an incredible, beautiful sound. It's so amazing to have birds provide nature's wonderful symphony. It's a complete joy and privilege to hear.❤
If I had to actually choose which bird song I like better than any other, this would be it. I always love hearing one of these as I walk through the woods somewhere. They're so reliably reclusive and the song is so ethereal it's like I've entered another plane of existence.
Wow!! Thank you!! That was beautifully miraculous! What a treat! Thank you....your photos and videos are Excellente'!!! Top Notch! Birds are a wonderful blessing from the Lord! And, you are superb at capturing their sweet, pure voices! Thank you sharing with us all that you do for and with the beautiful birds! Shalom! 💜🕊💜
The first time i heard this hermit thrush was in the flathead lake area on Montana ! It is another world place and lingering ecko in my heart ! God's creation is AWESOME ! and that word in the O☝️T refers directly to the Creator !♥️💝✝️🕎✡☝️
You know oddly enough I've seen plenty near my downtown area in Columbia, SC. The city has plenty of overgrown areas that they like and it's two seconds from a river. Though not a Thrush I've seen Ovenbirds in the same spot. I'd never heard a Hermit Thrush sing until we moved into our new house in an older neighborhood with plenty of plant life. It was later in Spring and they've since left to visit you further north. Thanks again for your great videos, can't think of a better way to pass the time and learn new things.
Now I feel dumb because I see this bird a lot and didn't know people spend so much time trying to see one. I will have to take a picture next time. I live in the city so there will be what some consider to be unnatural things like porch rails and such.
Thank you, Lesley, for detailing the gift of the SYRINX by which the Thrush can produce two unrelated pitches at once, producing such a moving sound. Now if only humans could, more readily and consistently, look beyond the surface to discover what is beneath.
The first time I heard one of these was last July (2021) on my first trip to northern Minnesota. I had no idea what it was, and it was incredibly elusive. Thank you for sharing and enlightening me.
When I heard this bird in the woods on the coast of Great Wass Island in Maine on my hike, I was so amazed. I called it the Space Bird, I thought it's call was so different and loved the way it created sort of "echo" like sound. So glad I found the name of the bird.
Ive been trying to id this bird sound for years. Every time I heard it I i was like, "who are you, magical bird!!?? Please show me your beautiful face!" I finally saw it today and was able to ID it. Out of this world sounds!!
I know summer is coming when I hear a wood thrush in the early morning when I walk the dogs and a hermit thrush in the evening in the woods behind the house. It’s is so beautiful.
We used to have Hermit Thrushes along the creek behind my house. Haven't heard them in the last two years, though, and I miss them. What a lovely song! And a great recording.
What a lovely song! I live on a large property surrounded by trees, & I hear a lot of bird songs. I've never heard this one where I live, and I'm not sure they live in my area, but there are a few birds around here who have similar songs. Sometimes I don't care what kind of bird is singing. I just like to listen. At other times, though, it is cool to know. :) My cat watched this video intently & listened with full on concentration, even pawing at the screen a few times. :) Don't worry, though. He's strictly an indoor cat, mainly for his own safety, but also because I don't want to risk him hunting other creatures, like birds. I can't stop him from being a cat & doing what cats do, which includes hunting, but I can prevent him from doing that outside. Thanks for your channel & all your lovely videos. :) :)
I've been hearing this bird song since I can remember as a young child and maybe earlier as a baby. I have never known which bird made the sounds. It is great to see the bird who sings the beautiful song finally ❤️
I love their hauntingly beautiful songs as with the Wood Thrush. When I lived in PA I heard both often, they are very similar in sound, but living in FL I never hear those beautiful songs anymore. Very sad.....

I have spent hours trying to find this bird when it’s singing. Beautiful sound in the woods.
Exactly that, FlyTyer. I wasn't even sure what bird was singing the song... now I know.

@@christines1924 there's nothing like it. i remember sitting in a glade for hours with several of them all around.....
Lovely, musical and lyrical! Rather modest in appearance he certainly knows how to be heard. I'd welcome his song in my neighborhood! ❤️❤️❤️

@@DerekLB thanks, I think I'll do that.
For sure!
I've camped for 40 years, never heard it before. Took me 3 days to finally ID the bird. Melodious soft sound.
Too beautiful!! Between this and the wood thrush, there isn't a noise much prettier than this!!
Have you heard the White Throated Sparrow? Definitely on my list of favorites! 😍
