“Really nice wood” and “Eastern White Pine” deserve to be in the same sentence but I am not sure about “Really good quality” and “OSB”. 😊You did a great job on the project - I was surprised at the relatively low price of air conditioner cost. So , figuring $25,000 for materials (40% cost} and about a 60% as a labour component your total value is about $62,500 - that’s not too bad. I used OSB for my shop’s interior walls - I coated it with masonry block primer. It made the shop bright.
I enjoyed your series on the barn. Good reality check on today’s prices. I watched with particular interest because I am going to add a lean-to addition on my 24 X 36 pole barn. For comparison, my barn is all steel siding and roof with finished concrete floor paid $5600 in 1997 and that included labor. Oh well the I am sure the lean- to will cost quite a bit more than the original price!
I really enjoyed and appreciate your build series! Given that you have interior finished, insulated, electrified, and climate controlled your building, it is almost residential status... With that in mind, what specifically, if anything, would you do differently if you did intend this to be a home/residential living space? And then do you have suggested modifications for a high wind/tornado prone area? Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thanks. I would not change a thing (other than styling, windows, nicer interior, etc) for a residential pole barn build. For high wind areas, I'd suggest shallower overhangs and appropriate uplift load calculations when sizing roof framing and specifying fasteners. You don't want to guess at that stuff.
I like that you are doing/did a project series for the everyday person with regular materials. I have a beef with these high end YT sponsorship channels, I mean good for them, but I tend to loose interest when a content creator is putting 30K into a $2000 farmyard revival vehicle or something like that.
Great video...very nice garage! Good job!!
Barn turned out really well. Much respect for your craftsmanship and appreciate you sharing your techniques. I took lots of notes.
