Ridiculous... Supercross & Moto GP are as different as Football & Golf. Just because they both take place on two wheels does not mean the approach to training can be the same or even similar.
Bike setup and testing also. Bike setup for different asphalts vs different dirts, sands, or clays and different features on the tracks. No late in the motor braking bumps to worry about.
Just so you know, most if not all Moto GP riders train predominantly on dirt bikes. Super Moto bikes too. Road cycling for endurance. If it’s got two wheels, forks and handle bars (excluding scooters) there will be crossovers and shared techniques in training and racing. How could there not be?? It’s 100% beneficial for physically and skill set
The fact that this dude compares MotoGP to SX shows he doesn’t need to comment on the subject. You don’t even stand up on a GP bike let. One sport is finesse and the other is finesse AND brute strength.
Agreed. You have to be able to wrangle the bike for 20 minutes plus without losing stamina. That is different than sitting on a road bike and pedaling for 3 hours or hitting the gym
This is a stupid argument. SX is dangerous yes, but it would be more dangerous if you had a bunch of guys out there who hardly practice. News flash Josh, roadracing is not the same as SX. I've done both and roadracing is cake in comparison.
Pavement is for fast bikes. Dirt is for fast riders. This guy doesn’t get how much more physically demanding mx is to road racing. You have to train your body differently
This last statement was perfect. I rode ama supersport as a backmarker privateer. I waa just fast enough to make a pro grid. Years later , i race GNCC where the track changes and im at the back of the C class😂
4:01 this actually did happen for the smx playoffs. Jet was injured for mx and couldnt ride then only had a couple days to ride before the smx playoffs and he came back and won.
I know everyone is fit. But not more fit than I am. So riding is hard but but mostly speed is from technique and balance. Need both but mostly technique and heart fitness. No one’s hands are that much stronger than the next guy. Balance is everything.
There is no way that would work in our sport. It’s way too hard. It’s all feel…you have to ride all the time to be both confident and fit. I’d like to see him take his philosophy to the motocross track and see what happens.
Really, they contradict themselves. Gypsy said " I rode more than I ever did and I was better but not much better". If Even Jett turned up at this level not as his best he would run 5th. Everyone riding everyday, the likes of Chase and Eli and he just did physical training he would not be as tuned and smooth and loose and loose to them. That 5% gain from riding often is 5% needed when you make the big bucks.
The problem with supercross guys in the weight room is that they have diametrically opposing goals. They want to get strong without getting big. Eli COULD beat arm pump. But he would weigh 190lb and finish 15th.
Occupational Therapist here. If you dont take care of your body, even with great genetics, you will have a painful last half of your life. Take care of your spine and organs. Bones will heal, but once those other parts go, its only a matter of time till whatever god you pray too calls you up. Eat right and exercise, it will play a factor i can promise you that.
No SX rider can take weeks/month off riding and have the timing/technique to race at the elite level/elevate the sport. The rhythm requires practice. Moto GP/Moto America are very different.
If you want to be the best you have to beat the best. And if you want to beat the best you need little minute advantages over them... Practice makes perfect. What this conversation is forgetting is that competition drives everything to be where it is. Supercross and motocross are just so competitive that guys need to ride all the time to beat their competition. If they don't do it and their competitors will... Guess who wins. I'm sure if RC could have won less by riding less, he would have....
Moto guys spend hours and hours riding bicycles for fitness then train on track four days a week, race on the weekend. No wonder so many people tear ligaments and tendons in their legs, they are worn out.
I fully respect MotoGP but this dudes perspective of sx/mx fitness seems way off? RC proved that the level wasn't that high before? Do we want the level/quality of racing to go backwards? Someone will just come out and train more and win everything? I get what they're saying but it's a ridiculous concept
To be fair he's not racing against the best he's racing against the best in America that's coming from in America the best race in MotoGP not Moto America
I think there's so much more bike setup in SX than GP there has to be more riding and testing. The Lawrence's A1 struggles essentially blew this whole argument, they had less prep on a new bike and it showed. I do think there could be away to put ECU monitors on the bikes or something to see how much they ride, and I'm down to limit mid-week, mid-season practice, but clearly the preseason is needed for bike setup alone.
I don't agree with Josh but your argument is nonsense. A MotoGP bike has far more adjustments available than a motocross bike and it is much more finely tuned. I raced both mx and road and it's not even close, roadracing is far more technical with bike setup. But MX is much more physically demanding
You are just plain wrong straight out of the gates. The sheer amount of parts alone on a Moto GP makes set up more difficult. Add to that all the set up variations with the electronics and system management. Not to mention having to allow for the effects of tyre heat, pressure, grip levels that are changing every single lap. Maybe if you’re bored in future, do a little research into the things you like. Informed opinions are always appreciated. Because they seem rare these days
Lmao these dude is a goon, I bet most ams could out lift him in the gym. Moto and sport bikes are entirely different sports, especially from a fitness standpoint
I’ve been saying for years that the ama and supercross need to implement an on the bike training time limit during the season. Too many practice crashes over the years have taken riders out.
Well if you get injured every time you lift, you’re not lifting right bud. 😂 and you got try to ride a dirt bike at their level with an injured shoulder, bad knee, whatever. It’s more dangerous to ride hurt and risk further injury. You wouldn’t even survive in a C class at a local track. 😂😂
So Jorge Martin Marc Marquez ride all winter including motocross to continue to get better but it’s not too dangerous for them but it is for Herrin? Lol
this interview just made Superbike racing look much less skilled and athletic than we may have ever thought,
Ridiculous...

Josh is so honest and real! He’s been one of my favorite riders for a long time!
Funny though how he doesn’t understand how much more physically demanding and gnarly moto is to gp. It’s not even close
4:01 this actually did happen for the smx playoffs. Jet was injured for mx and couldnt ride then only had a couple days to ride before the smx playoffs and he came back and won.
Real reason it’s dangerous is Vince Freizy
😂
Love your content Gypsy.
Marathon and ultra marathon runners live longer and healthier than non runners. By a huge margin. The heart beat expiration is an insane theory
Put in perspective Rossi has logged 24901 race miles.
I know everyone is fit. But not more fit than I am. So riding is hard but but mostly speed is from technique and balance.
Need both but mostly technique and heart fitness.
No one’s hands are that much stronger than the next guy.
Balance is everything.
Balance?nope. Wrong. 😂
There is no way that would work in our sport. It’s way too hard. It’s all feel…you have to ride all the time to be both confident and fit.
I’d like to see him take his philosophy to the motocross track and see what happens.
Nothing compares to riding. You can train everyday all day long and not ride practice and you’ll get tired during the race
We stopped at his house in Georgia when he lived here before Daytona when he had a broken wrist 😊
I've always wondered how different the amount of serious injuries changed when factories went from two stroke to four.
Really, they contradict themselves. Gypsy said " I rode more than I ever did and I was better but not much better". If Even Jett turned up at this level not as his best he would run 5th. “I don’t need to test”. What’s your heart rate? “190”. What?! He makes no sense.
The problem with supercross guys in the weight room is that they have diametrically opposing goals. They want to get strong without getting big. Eli COULD beat arm pump. But he would weigh 190lb and finish 15th.
Not true those two things don't correlate

It makes no difference for the fans if the riders are riding all week or not.

Moto guys spend hours and hours riding bicycles for fitness then train on track four days a week, race on the weekend. No wonder so many people tear ligaments and tendons in their legs, they are worn out.
Tendons are tearing due to the shearing forces of the newer heal-below-footpegs riding style and the severe loads of modern bikes/tracks.
Nice to see him
This guy really is a snowflake, no offense
It’s dangerous because of the ground.
I fully respect MotoGP but this dudes perspective of sx/mx fitness seems way off? RC proved that the level wasn't that high before? Do we want the level/quality of racing to go backwards? Someone will just come out and train more and win everything? I get what they're saying but it's a ridiculous concept
I can see over training, and riding. Can cause burnout. While not allowing nagging injuries to heel.
Above average iq take…
Motocross riders Don’t go to watch. Moto GP riders. Moto GP riders show up to watch Motocross Supercross riders all the time. Facts.
Sorry dude, but you have so many more variables in MX, neurologically no one will be prepared if they ride a little as what this guy says.
To be fair he's not racing against the best he's racing against the best in America that's coming from in America the best race in MotoGP not Moto America
Gods of MotoAmerica can't Top 10 in MotoGP.
Herrin tried Moto2 and got his ass whooped, lol

This is such a brain dead take. If you hate riding so much and are so afraid of it that you don’t want to do it then just quit dude.
"completely agree".... No you don't, Jase. Josh is completely naive here about moto.
this.... this maybe the dumbest two wheel mindset take to date.. lmao .... bravo in a way
Can’t win if you’re hurt re re tardo
Can’t get better if you don’t get seat time either
Can’t get better if you don’t get seat time either
Lmao these dude is a goon, I bet most ams could out lift him in the gym. Moto and sport bikes are entirely different sports, especially from a fitness standpoint
I’ve been saying for years that the ama and supercross need to implement an on the bike training time limit during the season. Too many practice crashes over the years have taken riders out.
Yeah. Stop exposing yourself.
Moto guys are so weak, also I get injured every time I lift..... Bro maybe you aren't as strong as you think lmao
It's supposed to be a fitness thing when you lift, not brokeness.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 wow
Respectfully Zodd, are you retired?
You guys know I'm not talking about myself but the guy in the video right? Because it seems like y'all are replying to me
So Jorge Martin Marc Marquez ride all winter including motocross to continue to get better but it’s not too dangerous for them but it is for Herrin? Lol
