I thought it was interesting they are putting the shells together on the spot. Looks like they keep the fuse and the charge separate till the last moment, so I suppose it makes sense, but it doesn't seem very practical. How do modern artillery shells work?
+jemimus It is "training". Even the US army does it. We deployed to Desert Shield without ammunition. We only picked up live ammunition when we were in the middle of the desert. We did no even chamber ammunition while on guard duty.I know the Philippine Marines on duty in rebel areas carry their rifles chambered and on safe.

Our armed forces was totally at constant combat since the CPP-NPA insurgency in 1969 and the Moro Conflict since the 1970's. Equipment wise talo talaga tayo, experience wise lamang tayo. But we can put up the balance of power against the CCP China if we get a hand of at least intermediate range ballistic missile that can target and destroy their vulnerable civilian infrastructures such as the Three Gorges Dam (when destroyed it will kill and affect instantly 400 Million Chinese) and at least Brahmos anti-ship missile for deterrence purposes. The only thing that we lack is to modernize our military through political will.

marines are not exactly fully land capable infantry units, although, the line has been blurred with the AFP. Most land-based warfare are being handled by the Army, while the Marines areused for amphibious assault.
i am talking about Philippine Marines here, the doctrines for them are to be an assault team. Like in a chess move, they are the pawns, but when it comes to prolonged land-based warfare, the army takes precedence.
