I have the idea that a short nipple, even if it's only PVC, could slip over the ends of the steps temporarily, making the grip easier to grasp while turning the threads into the tree's trunk.

U are right there is no good video at all. I want to see a video show put a safety harness and work all screw all the way up. Other video it’s so dumb those guys show how to put a screw on tree that dumb shit video. Your much better bro.

I've done worse damage to trees with tractor implements and the trees survive without any noticeable problems.
These little steps are just sawmill nightmares.
