Seemingly unimportant feature. However, I go a lot out of this tutorial. One significant yield from watching this video is I discovered I have a ton of unfinished task older than 6 months much of which I'd lost sight of. I discovered these after pausing the lesson and created the filter you had just demo'd for listing items older that 6 months. I have scheduled this video for follow-up viewing to make sure I capture all that I need. Beyond this initial finding I now have the confidence to "Dive in" to take full advantage of benefits offered by the Filter feature. Once again, "NICE WORK" Carl!!!
Filters are really a very powerful feature of Todoist. They allow you to tailor your workflow to your needs and preferences. The price you have to pay though is that their proper setup and use requires some upfront reflection. Of course after that you can apply continuous improvement, but only to eliminate inefficiency and not for the sake of just changing...
Is there a way to filter "without" ? I would like to see what's left in my today box once I removed my AM and PM recurring tasks. That would tidy things up nicely.
The move to using sections more is (at least for now) a problem when using the Gmail add-on or the Todoist integration in Spark; none of them seem to support sections (as of now), they do however support subprojects. (Just sending tasks to the inbox would be a work-around of course). Hopefully both the Gmail add-on and the integration in Spark will catch up soon.
I’ve always found it dangerous to send email tasks to anything other than my inbox. That’s how tasks used to disappear and die in a sea of projects, sub-projects and stuff.
I didn’t know you could address sections directly in filters (thought it had to be ”Projectname/Sectionname”), good to know. As long as the section name is unique, I guess. Also curious; you seem to have This Week’s Focus as non-completable tasks? Any particular reason?
Hi Carl, do you use Todoist for your personal life as well? I’ve always used OmniFocus, and separated two project folders as personal and business.. but now I’m getting into your method and switching to Todoist, and I notice you don’t have any personal life tasks here (hang on, maybe I did see ‘call mum’) Would love to know how you handle both!
Hi Magda, I don't separate work and personal tasks because for me a task is a task. It just needs doing. Sometimes I have to do personal banking during work hours and from time to time I need to respond to an email or do a call outside normal working hours. So, things usually balance out over the week.
I am trying to set up a filter, but Todoist says is doesn't recognize /MORNING which is a section under my ROUTINES. What am I doing wrong? My Todoist seems different than yours also, shift click doesn't work for me. I have to hit m to select tasks to move.
I'm not sure without seeing your Todoist. One way, I solve these issues is to copy and paste the section name into the filter. That way I get the syntax exactly right. Which type of computer are you using? I use a Mac and I know some of the keyboard shortcuts are different.
I use view all as a favourite not for viewing but for counting how many tasks I am currently tracking in Todoist. I don't know if anyone has a better solution for this?
Correct me if I am wrong the difference between your This Week's Objectives (inside your Purpose & Objectives project) and your This Week project are This Week's Objectives is what you would like to accomplish and This Week project is the tasks that must get done for that week?
The time sector system has been some help. Carl Pullein is the most helpfull person to me in 2021.
Thank you. Glad you found it valuable.

Glad to have been able to help, Malcolm.

Life is always about continuous learning. That's a part of life I love.
YES FUCKING LOVE THAT CARL.

Just use the "!" before the label or p number and it will exclude those tasks.

They are not really tasks. They are just reminders of what I want to focus on this week.

What outcome do you want to see, Louisa?
Amazing, so inspiring
Thank u for share 🇮🇩
Can i see your setting in Label? 😁
I don’t use labels. So there’s nothing to show.
@@Carl_Pullein i got it 👍

Yes. That’s right.
Shouldn't TODAY'S FOCUS also include overdue tasks? Anyway, I enjoyed and learned a lot. Thanks for this video.
The Today's view shows me that (in red as well) so I don'r need to see them. Plus I would have moved them when I did my daily planning.
