I recently discovered this channel while searching for people's opinions on Digitack and Syntakt. I appreciate your insightful and unique approach to presenting this information. It would be great to see you perform in Detroit around Memorial Day weekend. The Bangtech party seems like a fitting choice. Thank you for the information.
Thank you for the answer. The Minilogue keeps coming back to me over and over again. It’s the single common element in every answer I received. I’ll get one:)
Man, thank you SO much for the thorough answer to my analog heat question! I just received the digitakt yesterday and have been hooking things up today - then your video premier alert came up and you answered that question. Very motivational bunch of info for me.
Nice... Hearing you describe your music interest/inspiration pathway is sooooo very similar to my own. Great content man... you've always got really great highly experienced advice to offer... Thank you.
Great QandA very interesting. I'm trying to understand the financial side of the business too as its increasingly difficult to earn a living with streaming rates and music sales being what they are. Earning 2k a month like a normal job seems like a pipe dream right now for a lot of producers, and either playing liveshows or ghost producing seem to be the way there
awesome vid - thx very much. starting to work on a live set myself featuring some elektron boxes so might patreon you up over the next few months for some 1-on-1s
Hey thanks! It IS a Polybrute. I will do some videos on it at some point. I don't feel like I have anything to add on it yet. Still getting to know it. :) I love to play it, but I still need more time digging in before I can put something out. Thanks so much for watching!
Fantastic Eric. Thanks so much for answering my question. We've got very similar influences (NIN, Ebb, Mode..). Absolutely with you on scoring, most of what I listen to these days is soundtracks (yes the TENET OST is amazing). Another really great channel for that is Christen Henson Music. He's a composer and founder of Spitfire Audio. Modular? Don't do it. Lol. Actually I love my Make Noise units but I think that's as far as I'll be taking it. Anyway, great advice & vlog.
I'd love to see you blend your future dirtywave M8 with the elektron workflow. There's a video from Space Town on TH-cam titled something like "how I perform live". He has two M8's and a USB 16 pot controller with the retrokit cable/host box. I've watched it about half a dozen times. Check it out if you have time. Good advice and cool set up. It reminds me a lot of your videos. In a small way, the M8 tracker styled helped me visualize the way Elektron gear can be used to build track structure. Thank you for really great content damn near every time.
Character: Saturation Drive: 50% Wet: 100% Dry/Wet: 100% HPF Frequency: 21 Resonance: 30 Low EQ: Neutral High EQ: slight boost to taste (to balance the low boost from the filter resonance) I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Thanks, nice session. I was late to the party. So one question from my side: how much of „live“ performance you get into final production? In your other video you showed using overbridge. But would you use that in conjunction with other gear to record your performance track by track? Or are you recording tracks „per device“ (each stereo channel, maybe per frequency range or something)? Or do you record just a single stereo track, mixing while you go and mastering kt later? Would be great if you find the time to answer (or make a video *hint*). Thanks for your effort!
Judging by the amazing quality of your Elektron videos. I'd love to see similar content about Modular. I'm interested in modular and slowly expanding my modular gear.
Funny you mention that. I’m just about to start my journey down the modular rabbit hole and there will be plenty of content along the way. I’ve already started working on it. :)
@@SURCOlive Can't wait! Currently, I'm looking for cases that grow with me. Stackable, power, etc. Instead of skiffs/small cases etc. I'd also love to see how your Electron gear pairs/integrates with your modular.
Glad you liked it. Wow, one piece would be tough for the way I play. My modular would for sure be the most fun to play (not sure if that counts as one piece though). If it was one hardware piece it would definitely be an Elektron box. Probably the Analog Rytm for its flexibility and playability. Thanks for watching!
Dearest SUR, Little off topic but how would you go about creating a kinda stutter effect kinda like a kill switch on a guitar. And how would you program and sequence the rhythm of the stutter. If you listen to "glue" by Bicep you will know what I mean, No worries if not , You are brilliant anyway. Thanks so much . Love your stuff, So very generous and passionate and totally inspiring. From nick Manchester UK
Thanks! usually that is a gate effect controlled by an LFO or even just an LFO with a square wave telling volume to switch on or off. thanks for watching!
@@SURCOlive I definitely will , thanks, just got a Beatstep Pro and some Volcas and other cheap stuff but I'm just starting out and having an amazing journey giving myself goose bumps trying to do a live dawless set, I'm a little far off from you eleckron wizards but you all inspire me to keep switching it all on every day so thank you and all you dudes that comment on here. You are all helping me more than you will eve know.
IF I wanted to complete and mix and master DAWless, I would use outboard hardware processing and a full mixing desk. Otherwise there is no comparison to what a DAW can do. It’s not even close. :)
Thank you very much for your insights and tips on the gear you use. Did you consider any other devices (for example OTO Boum) when you purchased the Elektron Analog Heat? Thank you!
I did actually. It was my second choice, but I settled on the Analog Heat on recommendations from a few friends that had tried both. I would still love to try the Boum sometime. It seems great.
@@SURCOlive Thank you very much for letting me know. Yeah, I have been looking at both, and, it appears as somewhat of a "tossup" on the reviews & vids I have searched.
On the mastering options, Stimming’s isn’t $4k. $2520 euros. So whatever the exchange rate is at the time of ordering. Granted your overall point is right - it’s top of class and expensive compared to the Heat (which is an amazing option as well). It’s good to have options like you said, but Martin and Sunshine Jones are great points of reference on how to use and incorporate live gear for shows since they do it for a living. Each has a different take on how to manage their final output, and it seems that the intended output based on style can also dictate what you put at the end of the chain. Stimming is more techno, Sunshine is more house with vocals. Great channel btw. Appreciate your enthusiasm for deep diving into subjects around techno.
I appreciate the transparency about your income.

Would also suggest looking for a good condition second-hand one. Most of my gear is second-hand and I saved hundreds of pounds that way!

If you wanted to do a full DAWLESS setup, would you use a MPC X to mix and master/complete the full track instead of a DAW for release?

I have a digitone, Octatrack, monomachine and dsi tetr4 what do I need to bring them together?
I would use the Octatrack to bring it all together. It is the centerpiece of my performance setup
