2021 was such a strong and spectacular year for Eurovision full of creativity, love, and most importantly, passion. Sure, 2022 is.. interesting, to say the least, but it will never live up to the cultural reset that 2021 was.
I rly don’t see 2022 being better than 2021. 2021 was a kinda strong year, many new styles and interesting artists. With a few exceptions, 2022 is just default radio crap, sry to say
@@Kaiklen Id actually say it’s the other way around. Yes, 2021 was very pop heavy but at least there was some variety. This years songs (most of them) actually sound more or less the same, same bpms, same rhythms, same beat style. Songs like Fallen Angel, El Diablo or Tout l'univers are all more or less classic pop concepts. However despite that basic concept and through sound design and the singers themselves, these songs stood out and made them immediately recognizable. I don’t see this in 2022. Like at all. Sounds and beats don’t differentiate, exactly this is what u hear in radio nowadays. Don’t think people are biased, more that the last ESC set a high standards for this year and people are underwhelmed by most of the entries :/
EBU sent an email to all the countries with the new votes after the countries sent their votes a night before, but 6 countries didn't want to dance how EBU was singing to them and refused to go with EBU's votes, but with their real votes, which resulted fake technical issues from EBU and not letting the representants of two countries go live and say the real votes. About the public votes, idk, in my country and Moldova's diaspora some people couldn't vote more than 5 times or had 1 vote accepted during the voting time and 4 at 4:00, a long after ESC was over.
Regardless of opinion on specific songs, I really enjoyed this kind of format. Really interesting to see a side by side comparison and see if a country decided to switched up their strategy or not.
I like the song but the performance is weak, probably because the kids don’t have much performance experience, but if it had more energy and maybe a slightly better production it would do better
I have never in my life seen a list I disagreed more with... Almost every single song we had the opposite winner, I think we agreed only about 6 times.
the raw emotion in viola alone makes the song better than the emotionless fulenn and the vocal performances dont comepare viola is just miles better than fulenn in every conceivable way
@@idiotperson7554 I don't think one can compare these songs since they are completely different genres. But on basis of what I have seen so far, I have to say that Barbara is definitely a more confident performer. On account of how confidently and convincingly songs are delivered, I think that Barbara will be the winner, but we didn't yet see Alvan and the girls on Esc stage so let's hold till we do
2021 had some truly exceptional entries though. Italy, France, Zwitserland, Ukraine... I''m not sure 2022 has songs that stand above the pack in the same way.
yeah it came down to live performance, but 2022's just works better life. 2021's was incredibly difficult to sing with enough pitch-accuracy with it being so high and constantly harmonizing.
Yeah both had elements I love and they both have everything I want to see in a Eurovision entry and more. They were both catchy, unique, memorable and creative which I love in a Eurovision song. And I like that they had elements of traditional Ukrainian folk music and were in their native language, I feel like that is a good plus for me in terms of Eurovision songs because I love learning about other people’s cultures from around the world. I don’t even know which I would rank higher because they’re both good in their own ways.
@@tasolyn France 2021 entry was not my type of music so I also would pick the 2022 entry. She was great deserved the 2nd place but this was not for me so I'm happy he picked the 2022 entry
France is my favorite this year. 😂 Tastes are different... I respected the fact that everyone was crazy about France last year, but I REALLY disliked the song.
Yes it's a really different feeling. I like how the 2022's song is so catchy. I could see it played at a party/in a club. And it's great to see Brittany get some representation as well
It's really weird, whilst i agree with a majority of this list, I still think 2021 was a better year. I think it's probably because most of *the* best songs of 2022 didn't actually make it into the finals and instead we got a million mediocre ballads. The final lineup for 2021 was a lot better than this year, but overall I can definitely see 2022 having better songs? It's weird.
Honestly, this year's French song is too unique to go unnoticed. An electronic - folk song in Breton, which, as I understand It, takes up a popular legend. Voilà was also very beautiful, but come on: it was just the French stereotype done in song. I don't know what to say about Sweden. Only the text of Hold me Closer is nice, honestly; the rest (the base, the melody) don't give me any emotion. I didn't really like Voices either but it was more catchy, although I appreciate that they changed the genre of their entries a bit. The only one I agree with is the UK.
i personally dont like Sweden, not because the song is that bad, but its just the same eurodance they send EVERY year and i cant understand, why those are still and always above others that are masterpieces. I personally hope that Austria, Spain, Poland, Norway and Italy will rank up higher than Sweden in May.
@@proximab3881 Cornelia is really not the same as other years. This is way different than what we usually send. Personally Hold Me Closer is one of the best Swedish entrys of all time.
@@proximab3881 Eurodance? I mean.. I can't even.. eurodance?! Peole obviously need to start getting interested in music and figuring out genres, because.. Calling Cornelia "eurodance" is like saying Lordi sounds like Britney. That's how far off it is. Insane.
I only disagreed with a few choices and my result was 2021 - 13 vs 2022 - 25. I don't know how it happened but I actually prefer this year over last even though 2021 was my favourite year of Eurovision. I'm so curious what I'm going to think after the shows will actually take place
I think that's because a lot of this years songs sound similar in the aspect that they could be in the music charts with only a few outstanding while last year there was a greater diversity in genre. Also it is hard to rate a year through comparing the songs of one country with each other while the songcontest is between countries. For some choices I just felt indifferent because I liked/disliked both, but that doesn't says much about the songcontest in the whole. Also last year learing about the peoples personalitys and which message they want to tell through their songs made a huge difference for the perception of them. And of course that the year before the contest was cancelled made the last contest better in that sense that everyone was happy it could be held again after one year without esc.
After watching the first five entries, I could predict your choices really well, I think you have a clear preference for the style of music you prefer, which isn't a bad thing!
I swear I'm the only person who thinks Jendrik was iconic 😭 Edit: France 2022, Serbia 2021, Slovenia 2022, Spain 2021 and Moldova 2022 are so underrated 💕 i don't agree with your choices of Spain, Sweden, UK, Germany, Greece and Cyprus but otherwise yesss
I really love both - France 2022 is in my top 10 for sure (at least the studio version). That being said France 2021 was tied for 1st with Italy for me.
No you're not the only one, last year's France's song was strong, but this year's it's really special! For instance finally no french lyrics!! And for comparison to all the last songs, France sent to Eurovision France 2022 really is the most distinctive of them all!! I'm really curious how the public and the jury will judge this year's France's song!!
As a person from belgium i was so happy that you chose 'miss you' instead of 'the wrong place' because if you know how strict hooverphonic is with their singers and what jeremie already did he deserves it way more! Also does anyone notice how similar the song from belgium from last year was comparing to the song of iceland from this year?
I did my own version and this is how it turned out: Albania - 2021 Australia - 2022 Austria - 2021 Azerbaijan - 2022 Belgium - 2022 Bulgaria - 2021 Croatia - 2021 Cyprus - 2021 Czech Republic - 2022 Denmark - 2021 Estonia - 2022 Finland - 2021 France - 2021 Georgia - 2022 Germany - 2022 Greece - 2022 Iceland- 2021 Ireland - 2022 Israel - 2021 Italy - 2021 Latvia - 2022 Lithuania - 2021 Malta - 2021 Moldova - 2022 Netherlands - 2022 North Macedonia - 2022 Norway - 2022 Poland - 2022 Portugal - 2022 Romania - 2021 San Marino - 2022 Serbia - 2022 Slovenia - 2022 Spain - 2022 Sweden - 2022 Switzerland - 2022 Ukraine - 2021 UK - 2022 2021 - 15 2022 - 23 Funnily enough, the same score but with a different selection of countries. This is just a bit of fun guys 😂
I was gonna play along, but I lost count towards the end. I think it ended up really close, though. For Norway I couldn't decide though. I love both of their recent entries way too much for different reasons!
I still played along because everyone has their own opinion (You just have to make sure you’re not too critical of it). However, both Norway’s entries in 2021 and 2022, I have a love-hate relationship with them as well as I like to call it, guilty pleasure
I prefer Tix over 2022 entry, just for pure content of the song reason. Like Subwolfer's song has no content, it is literally about nothing, while Tix has a strong message behind it with some TS reference and overall Tix showing his vulnerability. Subwolfer is just a silly song that is supposed to get sold with generic beat with silly lyrics and funny dance.
@@zelgadisgreywolf8313 Lol i don't know how I could believe for one second Tix was a dj Astronaut but good to him he could be a part of Eurovision again as some kind of a pr thing and then present jury votes.
I am from Milan... Well, I like Italian song 2022 but I much preferred Maneskin... Bands like them are from another Planet compared with the singers/songs standards seen in Eurovision. It's a pity because Maneskin last year climbed the music charts not just of Europe but from around the world including the United States, revaluating the Eurovision Song Contest. And this will hardly happen again short and medium-term, unfortunately.
That kind of thing has only happened three times in Eurovision history: ABBA, Celine Dion and Måneskin. Måneskin is a great band that can go really far. I hope they do!
Ye tusse just felt like he didn't try to find his own style of music at all after idol, although ngl I don't think we had much better to send that year either
I agreed with you with most songs except for Germany, Latvia and Serbia... But that's only because I have an irrational love for Jendrick. I know objectively this year's song is better... But I just love "I don't feel hate" for reasons I don't think I can explain. Latvia... I just really, really, really hate the song this year. And for Serbia, I think the song is just so unusual and strange but really good

For me it's 23 for 2021 and 15 2022. I'm from Sweden and personally I absolutely hated our entry last year. And this year is like "WTF HAVE WE FOUND? IT'S A MASTERPIECE!". I like the idea of making a video comparing both years. In my case it is 20-20. I have had trouble chousing some year so end up taking both years, and in a few cases I haven't choosen anyone. Interesting.
I think many of this years songs are ‘more listenable’ on a regular basis, but they weren’t necessarily more interesting performances or better songs - they were more ‘car radio ready’ in my opinion lol
My "score" was 2021: 27 2022: 11 (some countries were almost a tie for me) 2021 was just a better year, well there's exceptions for a few countries. But 2021 was a much stronger year imo
I am so glad someone agrees with me that sweden and germany were better last year, there were a few i disagreed with like spain, which was beautiful last year and deserved more points than it got 😭😭 but most of them i agreed with
Don't you see a pattern in some countries? I mean from the style like Estonia or Czech Republic or Finland.. I really find it interesting bc that could be the preferred genre in that specific country ykwim
Many countries select their representative through a national competition, so yeah, that’s a valid observation. All three countries you mention do this, Finland and Estonia through a televised event and Czech Republic through an online vote.
At least concerning Finland, I’d say your analysis is on point. Rock/metal etc is really popular in Finland generally (although pop is very popular too) and that’s what we know well, so we send them to Eurovision. Also, the only time Finland has won it was a metal band so…
Agreed with most of them. Some countries like Slovenia or Latvia I don't like neither last nor this year's song... But im really surprised with your choices of Sweden, France and UK... Good video though
Based on the Belgium pick alone, this video is the definition of someone who is not in any way interested in music and only rarely listens to it casually - which, truth be told, is most of Eurovision's viewerbase.

2021 had way more “default radio crap” songs than this year, some of y’all are just biased
Don’t think people are biased, more that the last ESC set a high standards for this year and people are underwhelmed by most of the entries :/
tbh i was hoping last year would inspire artists to sing more in their native languages but i think there are still some strong songs this year
Agreed
Lithuania and Ukraine killing it every year, Love it!
Ukraines last three years have been amazing❤️
Lithuania this year🔥👌
Lithuania was my winner last year
I thought the same but also would add Italy
Lithuania is the worst song imo

IKR I LIKED IT SO MUCHH
Germany and Belgium deserved more aswell
I don’t get it either! 🥺❤️🇫🇷
@@winwinner6674 Wtf??? So they couldn't choose their own votes, but the Jury votes were chosen by ebu?
Regardless of opinion on specific songs, I really enjoyed this kind of format. Really interesting to see a side by side comparison and see if a country decided to switched up their strategy or not.
Disko does not get enough love. It's a really catchy old school vibes song.
I like the song but the performance is weak, probably because the kids don’t have much performance experience, but if it had more energy and maybe a slightly better production it would do better

2021 had some truly exceptional entries though. Italy, France, Zwitserland, Ukraine... I''m not sure 2022 has songs that stand above the pack in the same way.
Ukraine was a very tough decision for me to make. I just love them both.
Indeed.
yeah it came down to live performance, but 2022's just works better life. 2021's was incredibly difficult to sing with enough pitch-accuracy with it being so high and constantly harmonizing.
2021 was way better.
Same
Love their other songs too
Ok tho but Voiĺa 💀 just hits better for me, 2021 was an iconic year, full of amazing talent and songs and just hits better then 2022

2022 - 17
There were some shocking choices for me (France, UK, Ukraine...) 😱😂
Nevertheless I wish a nice Eurovision season 2022 to everyone🎉
Not falling easily for the Middle-Eastern melos and rhythm seems to be an acquired taste these days.
Especially France
Just 3 strippers on stage
I agree with Ukraine. But UK and Sweden were realy weird picks IMO. And France is just straight up insane to pick 2022 over 2021.

Ikr? 2021 represented french culture so well! 2022 was just like any radio song and not special at all.
@@jannesgeneraal110 you think it was like a normal radio song?😮 I thought it was really Special and sounded amazing
It's weird.
2021 was probably THE best Eurovision of all time in terms of song quality
France, Sweden and UK are some mental choices man. Not gonna lie. No way. Respect or agree with the rest though
Fulenn >>>>> Voila
I agree. But in the end 2022 still win so im OK with the uploaders statement
@@retro3329 Fulenn is good, but Voilà is incredible imo
I like France this year and Sweden the last year. I don't like UK any year
Sweden’s hold me closer is one of the best songs in recent years and the 2022 UK song is light years above the 2021 one the got 0 points.
i personally dont like Sweden, not because the song is that bad, but its just the same eurodance they send EVERY year and i cant understand, why those are still and always above others that are masterpieces. I don't know how it happened but I actually prefer this year over last even though 2021 was my favourite year of Eurovision.
I'm so curious what I'm going to think after the shows will actually take place
Yeah u got the same feeling like me there.
2021, It was the first year when I watched full eurovision live, there were so much good songs and it brings back much memories.
Uku's 2020's song was much much better.

I really love both - France 2022 is in my top 10 for sure (at least the studio version). That being said France 2021 was tied for 1st with Italy for me.
France 2021 was strong but I love folklore so France 2022 for the win
Same. Don’t get me wrong, volia is a good song but I love Fulenn better because of the beat
I actually agree with you 👍
No you're not the only one, last year's France's song was strong, but this year's it's really special!
Do you speak french? (I'm from Belgium too, maybe you Spreek dutch, idk) I don't understand what do you mean by "strict" explain pls

Netherlands: 2022 (wow the streak has ended, also the 0 points in 21 kinda deserved)
North Macedonia: 2022
Norway: 2022 (22 was just iconic)
Poland: 2021
Portugal: 2022 (not that big of a fan of either though)
Romania: 2021
San Marino: 2021
Servia: 2021
Slayvenia: 2022
Spain: 2022 (Okay this is the easiest choice, how do you go from deserved 0 points to a song being 3rd and still robbed)
Sweden: 2021
Switzerland: 2021
Ukraine: 2021
United Kingdom: 2022 (I feel bad for 21 though)
So:
25 - 13
I matched your list almost identically; I think I only differed on maybe 3 countries. Great taste! 🥳
I always just love norways songs
