I have been having a crisis of 'confidence' in recent days and Ajahn Brahmali's talk has come along at exactly the right time for me and I hope for others too. I feel a calmness for the first time in days.

I'm very lucky, I live in Perth, Australia. Close to Dhammaloka Buddhist Centre. Ever Friday I go there for Meditation and listing Dhamma Talk. Very peaceful. Thank you so much Ajahn Brahm and Buddhist Society of WA.

I am a Hindhu, But I always loved Buddhism, because it is so intense & real & straightforward & uncomplicated.
I have read 4 noble truths & 8 noble paths many times so far & conceptually i have understood it, but wanted a tool to practice.
I mostly play games in my iPhone & I searched for Buddha related apps & I saw one interesting app called "BuDhamma" by Lokesh Hanumappa. This app helps you practice 8 noble path in a cool way with reminders, reports, tests & graphic rich practice summary.

Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu! Thank you Bhante for giving the correct meaning of the word 'Saddha' in English. I found it difficult to explain this to many people including some monastics. Theruwan Saranai! 🙏🙏🙏

I think the core idea of this story is to trust your feeling , when you face the truth, you feel it, then find the path to reach it, in this case is peace, nirvana.

the way he describes believing in rebirth is the exact definition of blind faith.

  • @bgoodfella7413

Confidence, Trust and Acceptance in the Dharma (spiritual teachings) IS more important than Faith. Anything accepted blindly is born out of ignorance. Such is where blind faith and blind justice consistently corrupt much of Western religion and politics.

I also find it hard to put confidence on anything without feeling that it's true, so it's a learning process, from the feeling to the practicing...

I do wonder how rebirth is essential to the teachings of the Buddha. To my knowledge, when asked about the topic, he advised the questioner to consider things under both perspectives, of there being reincarnation and the not being reincarnation. Also there is the focus on the Here and Now.
While having a materialist leaning, I am not certain of either possibility, and would rather wait to have past-life experiences, then try to verify or falsify them. Until then: How is it essential?

So the thing is that you, bhante have confidence in the Dhamma because you saw something in the appearance of an enlightened person (or someone close to that state) and the people that know Dhamma but are not confident in it just didn't meat anyone like that? I'd like to be corrected if I'm wrong, but that's really how I understood the first part of the talk.

is radhapala attached to the way of the buddha? is ithis not something he should have let go? does he not -in the first time- follow a CONCEPT instead of the conceptless truth?
the story is diificult to understand, even easy to misunderstand, as long as we think in concepts. ... my interpretation is completely different.
