I always was under the impression that it was impossible to win races in World Championship with an Automatic Transmission (especially in the first game), that Manual was a requirement.
I don't know what it is, but I always preferred the first game, I always felt like I could hop into it at any time and over the years, have put a lot more time into that one over the 2nd game.
And very nice retrospective of 2 of Sega’s classic racing games snd probably the best racing games on the system and I was a late comer to the original Super Monaco GP, I played Ayrton Senna’s Super Monaco GP 2 not long after it came out and it’s a very good sequel and it was definitely a coup for Sega to get him on board for this game and documenting your journey in the season mode was a nice touch. I’m glad I own both games.
Who loves the sound of those old Ferrari F1 V12's? The old 412 t1 and t2 just sound amazing! If only Sega could have digitized that sound on the Genny. As much as I love SMGP I have to play this game with the sound turned down lol. The car sounds hurt my ears.
+Robert NES816 Dude. YES!!! The Ferrari 412 T2 is the greatest-sounding F1 car in history! I don't know who you are, but you should stick around. I like the cut of your jib.
+Classic Gaming Quarterly Ha! I sure will man. I also like the Ferrari 312 PB. The sound of that flat 12 is almost as amazing as the 412's V12. The 321 PB is a childhood fav of mine. Even though I grew up in the 90's.
+ceticobr Greatest racing driver who ever lived, and a pretty great person on top of that. Both Formula One, and the people of Brazil, could use more people like Senna.
I played the heck out of Senna Super Monaco 2 back in the day ! Loved it ! Senna was my favorite F1 Driver aahhhh those Senna vs Prost days !!! about a year ago after getting the Genesis mini i loved it so much that i got myself a genesis model one high def like i had in 89 and im trying to get all my favorite games i had back then and some i love and did not have :0) I almost got all the ones i want including Senna Monaco 2 i just love looking at that beautiful Box Art and others loved classics...Always make me smile and feel good inside :0) It's my favorite console of all time ! I love your videos ! Thanks a lot ! SEEEEEGAAAA !!!
Loved this game back in the day, it really hooked me into racing games and it was all down hill from there into F1 sims. Any plans to do any other F1 games like F1 World Championship by Domark and F1 Beyond the Limit for the Sega CD ? Both were extremely good racers for their time. Though looking back on them now Beyond the Limits controls were really touchy but the Domark game still holds up.
+Lord Monkus I've actually been thinking about doing some kind of "History of Formula 1 Games" episode. Maybe pick a couple of games from each system through the years. Still in the formative stages in the back of my brain, so no promises. As to the two games that you mention, I actually have them both. I bought the Domark game while on vacation in Ireland. I went into a little retrogaming store in Dublin and all of the games were super overpriced, but then I saw that Domark F1 game, and being a sports title it was pretty cheap. That an a PS1 racing game that I found in a thrift store were the only two games that I bought while I was over there. Anyway, thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
+Classic Gaming Quarterly Oh wow, a history of formula one games would be cool. Lots of games to cover there depending on how big of a time span and systems you cover.
Lord Monkus Like I said I would have to limit it to a couple of games per system, or maybe even per generation. I'd need to sit down and make a list of the really stand-out F1 games and see what kind of line-up that would provide.
I just subscribed to your awesome channel. Being a huge Mega Drive fan I totally dig your sega reviews and would want to see more of them. What about the Shinobi series next? Revenge of shinobi is just mega awesome!
I always thought that the original Super Monaco GP was far better. MUCH better music, and everything just seemed to have more personality. Super Monaco GP II's menus and music are just awful in my opinion. The first is one of my favorite games of all time so thanks for the vid.
+Metalslug111 I think that both games are awesome, but I am more drawn to the second only because Senna was my favorite racing driver back in the day. Thanks for watching!
I have both of these games as well. I think the second game had better handling and also the save states are great! No more passwords lol. If you don't already have it I'd like to suggest you try out Nigel Mansell's World Championship Racing. It's produced by Gametek and has some very pleasing graphics with very good handling.
+Robert NES816 I actually did an episode of this show on the Nigel Mansell game. I don't remember how long ago, but look through my videos and you'll find it.
+Suelto You can drive against her in this game, or you can play Vigilante on the TurboGrafx/PC Engine where you have to save her from some gangsters. She really got around in the 80's!
Love Super Monaco? Take a look at this updated version like F1! th-cam.com/video/BN24gVI_eXE/w-d-xo.html with a Senna's Global Challenge. Click in Show More to download the game.
Graphically the game looks awesome, but as a kid I never played it. I liked road rash 2, and I know how you feel about that. But what do you think of virtua racing on the genesis? I rented that one alot.
senna's names was used because sega wanted for a cheap way to bring the light around its production, on exact same way they picked daytona name, because formula 1 name was too expensive, and even nascar name was too expensive. but japaneses prefer formula 1 to american racing leagues, and daytona was never as popular as ridge racer for this reason. it feels like sega, despite having huge talent and made awesome games, had trust issues and generosity issues to their loyal talents and customers. i watched a video from "dark space" about "rockstar games". lot of similarity despite the different eras. talented member of the team moving to competition, only looking for cheap games but good enough to bring profits. this is not the way to bring success. racing games are usualy tested by real drivers. you will be surprised to hear to senna don't even tested or played the game, they just purchased its name. _ it's like you have senna on top of the journal, and nothing about senna inside. it's just used as a clickbait or marketing technique. there is a famous picture of senna in a monaco arcade cabinet, but monaco gp 1 wasn't made in collaboration with senna, and monaco gp 2 was never released in arcade cabinets. what's the point to get a collaboration with senna if you don't even give a care to make a fun software who deserves a room in any bar or gaming room? at the end of the day, monaco gp 1 features much better graphics than senna gp 2, because of the arcade edition, and if it was not for senna, everyone would have forget that there was an episode 2. one last thing super annoying: the game is called "super monaco" and the monaco track features a layout that don't respect the original f1 track at any time! i mean, what is this additional section after the finish line and before the turn one? i double check on wikipedia, there nevere was an additional era at this particular location.
These simulator style formula racing games were never interesting to me. I like a challenge but I like fun too. Give me Enduro or Rad Racer because they did it right. Outrun was Segas best racing game.
Wow! The narration in Portuguese by Galvao Bueno brought me back memories! Thanks from Brazil!
7:23 hahaha yes, I was hoping you was going to mention punting the flag man into orbit. Every chance I got I sent him flying.
It’s a requirement.
@@CGQuarterly I'm not going to lie, I was starting to lose hope it was going to happen at around the 6 minute mark.
I don´t know what´s better: your review or Galvão Bueno narrating one of Senna´s victory! Ayrton makes me proud to be brazilian...
This is my favorite F-1 racing game. Heck, it's the ONLY F-1 racing game I ever liked.
oh my god that narration in the start...very nostalgic
Haven't played the second but the first was great. I like the fact in the second you can run over the guy on the finishing line.
You should check it out. It's a fun game, and the fact that it has Senna in it just makes it 10x cooler.
I always was under the impression that it was impossible to win races in World Championship with an Automatic Transmission (especially in the first game), that Manual was a requirement.

Acknowledging the original arcade game would have been nice. It plays beautifully on MAME.

the original is on my all time favourite video game list. played it to death as a kid. never got a chance to play the second one properly though.
God I would love it if they released a third game!
You need to drive in 7 speed manual. So much better, especially in Master mode.
I see you are big Senna fan!
+ceticobr Greatest racing driver who ever lived, and a pretty great person on top of that. Both Formula One, and the people of Brazil, could use more people like Senna.
I couldn't agree more! How did you get interested in F1?
I started watching Indycar racing when I was around 12/13, and it just went from there. I still watch both Indycar and F1.
I played the heck out of Senna Super Monaco 2 back in the day ! Loved it ! Do you let up on the gas and/or break in the turns or neither? I slam into things on either side. Anyway - I love these videos!!!
I see you did the world championship on beginner in the second one.👀
The second one is more forgiving with crashes i like the first one more
I always love F1 video games even though i'm a NASCAR fan

Best Console F1 game, until Formula1 on the PS1 in 96.
+The Pumpking King Which Formula 1 game on PSX? Just curious, as I probably have it...

Virtua Racing is amazing! Its an early polygon game. But man does it look and play great lol. It's one of my favs on the Genesis.
I always crash in Monaco in both games.
Jeez the sound, voice, and music are all horrible in the second game compared to the first Imo
Yeah. It's really cool that it's got Senna's input and it controls better but the presentation is a letdown.
F1 slicks don't make the slipping sounds sooo. wtf.
Im gonna be that guy, Schumacher was better :D

Thanks for spoiling the game's ending and ruining it for me. -_-
Anytime!
