- Today we're taking a look back at what is probably the largest Lego theme to date, LEGO City! The Lego City theme did officially start in 2005 but I always considered the Lego Town theme as the original so we are starting at the beginning of that theme at 1978. How many do you guys own? Which ones are your favorites? Let me know down in the comments!

when I was a kid i got many of these sets. I'm impressed how my memory remembers each one of them, how and when I got them.
I didn’t really collect these mostly just the coast guard stuff
@@phlugalsuarus3210 I just collect classic space lol
Same but with Star Wars, Classic Space, Castle (or just medieval LEGO in general), pirates, and Harry Potter.
I had the second gen police and fire, some of the construction stuff, the second gen airport, the space sets and a few of the cars, trucks and planes. I vividly remember all of them. I stopped getting them around 2012 so this makes me very nostalgic
@Pavlov vr updates. your lying
Basically, the history of Lego City:
1978 - Lego City is established as a railroad town
1980s - Economic growth booms and populations rise, construction business explodes in stocks
1985 - Middle class grows
1988 - Lego City takes advantage of the Racing industry
1989 - Public services like Police and Fire departments established
1990s - Trading from worldwide shipping made popular
1990 - Airports and vacation services popularized
1994 - Beaches are taken advantage of and industrialized
1996 - Zoos, Oil extraction, and shipping is mastered
1999 - Business sector completely established
2000s
2002 - Space industry established
2003 - Private market and agriculture stocks grow high
2005 - Housing and real estate markets growing high, but bubble forms
2006 - Aviation and train service passes and constructed, public housing and infrastructure is also made
2008 - Suicide rates climb, so helicopter and emergency services are made
2010s
2012 - Zoos and real estate companies gain debt, but gdp per capita still grows
2013 - Real Estate bubble bursts, rent and buying prices jump. Companies overspend, underpaying workers
2014 - Crime rates start increasing, increasing demand for police.
2015 - Middle class shrinks dramatically, while the rich get richer
2016 - Fugitives escape to the rural areas, increasing police demand outside the city
2017 - Nationwide and citywide protests occur, vandalism across streets and burns most of the city is burned, sparking demand for fire rescuers and firetrucks.
2018 - Job market destroyed, so remaining city infrastructure is left untouched and managed. But some people still continue their lives amid the chaos. And an ancient city is discovered in the rural areas, sparking researchers, thieves, and jobs.
2019 - Moon and space exploration is embraced, but overspending further decreased the middle class
2020s
2020 - The city is calmer, but crime still exists. Prisons are overcrowded sparking demand for more prisons, raising the working-class population.
Sad, the Lego City used to be so good. Now it's a dystopian burnt hierarchical society pieced with corruption and poverty.

47:14 ahh the nostalgia!
Not gonna lie, I like the older lego sets more. I didn’t grown up with them, but they’ve got that simplistic charm to them. Of course, the newer sets are really detailed, so they have that going for them
i know what you mean, they were often smaller and less detailed but they really had a nice aesthetic, also there were whole towns in single sets...
Nostalgia hit me hard

That was also one of my first ones
That was my second! My first one was the yellow LEGO truck
My first set was.... I cant remember but my first Lego Technic set was the 42037
SAME!!! I remember, on Christmas, I got 5 police sets. That was amazing! Edit: 47:44 i mean that one

@@TheFreakJessie same i had the lego truck and the family house from the same year
I cant remember what i had for lunch but i remember every lego set i had 30 years ago.
That's common sense, important events are remembered, eating is for sissies and mortals.
I grew up with the LEGO sets from 2012-2017 I think about them everyday
Same here there so cool!

2005-2015
thanks for posting this... all the child hood memories from the 80s sets brought a joyful tear to my eye.
its amazing how Lego has advanced so much yet changed so little.
As a kid growing up in the 2000’s and early 2010’s I believe these were legos best years
the 80`s and 90`s sets have so much character, they managed to make some amazing things with such a limited amount of parts... many of them look way comfyer than the newer ones SOUL!
Plus the 90s suspension system, of course!
Seeing some of these sets helps me to connect some of the weird pieces I've found in my dad's collection of Legos to what they were! Maybe my kids will see this kind of video in 20 years and think the same thing about their grandpa's & Dad's Lego collection!
Moment of silence for:
Those blue railroad tracks that I broke in half to make lightsabers with...
Lego pieces say the set number theyre from
Oh my gosh me too they were in this weird lego box

How old are you friend???
@@francescofilippini9387 44.. in my childhood this was my first Lego Fuel Station..
Thanks for creating this compilation. I really enjoyed it. Fantastic seeing how sets have evolved over the years. So much nostalgia with the older sets I had as a kid in the late 70s and early 80s. I kept all my lego from my childhood even through my “dark ages” and have added many more to the collection as an adult. What a fantastic toy and hobby lego is. Great video.

When I was little My grandma gave me some old lego that belonged to my mom and her brothers, u think they had the set on 32:43, however I only have two sharks (gladly one of them is the one with the weird sword like nose), the background rocks, the yellow propeller, algae, the sand colored plate and two yellow ladders and what they’re holding on to
Underrated comment. Amazing
Yeah same, I think I have some of the 1978-1980 Lego figures, a lot of the chest prints are very similar
@@shittttttt8016 32:43 were 90s sets. Not 80s. I remember seeing those over the katalogue. Sharks were only introduced during pirate theme in 1989. Those weird nose sharks i remember only started to appear 1996-1997.
If your mom were little in the 90s that means shes just around my age (30++). How old are u ?
@@ChannelBerpindah turning 6 months tomorrow
I recall having two sets when I was a kid. One was the classic space ship. The other I could never remember even after watching several Lego vintage videos. That other set had a white fence, Windows with swinging covers, a tree and a 4x 1 brick with grill & headl ights print. No other mini figs except the classic space man
Whoever made this video, you have my utmost respect.
You're welcome
Wow! Great video! So much nostalgia. At 27:58 is mi first ever Lego set, which I received as a gift when I was around 7. Fortunately, I was able to foud it a couple years ago on Amazon, in sealed condition for around 40 bucks. Instantly bought it and now have it a my desk on a display case as a collectible :)
1:02:28 brings back memories, my mom bought it for me 3 times when I was 7. Ahhh 1:05:46... my first ever LEGO set 😢 sorry so emotional. 1:08:26 my most ever expensive LEGO set.. I have a video of me playing with it..1:09:04 my most favourite LEGO set ever.
Kinda relative! I feel you!

THIS BRINGS BACK SO MNY MEMORIES
I got it when I was 6
I had the same ambulance, don’t know where it is now tho T_T
I have the first one. I feel like an idiot for dissasembling my older ones from 2007. I have to rebuild them some day.
My first set is 1:05:57
*My first ever Lego set was **32:50** 😎, good ol' memories 90's* ♥️
That was my first underwater set
The police force is my favorite and thank you because it flooded good memories
not gonna like i shed a couple tears watching this video because it reminded me off all the sets i had as a kid and played with
My first own Lego set is not on this video because it was one of the "Black Knights" sets (6034 Black Monarch's Ghost), released in 1990. It's really a charming and cute set, even if the theme is rather spooky. I mostly had sets from the early 90s and I loved the Paradisa sets, they had a slight girly touch but it wasn't too much like the "Friends" franchise today. The 6416 set is still one of the best ever IMHO. That pool baseplate is just so cool.
Wow some of those pieces are older than I thought, quite the legacy each type of piece has, I find it fascinating.
Love this video ! Brings me so many memories
Finally i been waiting for a video of this
Thanks for the work done! A very exciting video!
The most anticipated video in the history of the internet
SO many sets from the 80's to early 90's i had as a kid. dang that took me back!
Huge amounts of respect for putting this together man
watched the whole movie with joy! so many good memories!! it is so sad lego city is so bad the last years. the 90s sets are the best
This 80s and early 90's sets give me back many memories. I owned lot's of them.
Im a 80's kid. I'm so glad I kept my collection.
Got kit 575 Coast Guard Station for my birthday. I remember being amazed because it was the first Lego figures I had with moving arms and legs! It was the beginning of quite a collection. A lot of great memories!
Very comprehensive! I love watching the evolution from the primitive sets of the late 70s to the detailed ones of the present. I estimate I owned over 50 of these from the mid 80s to the early 90s. My first was 588 The Police Station. Among my favorites was 6392 The Cargo Center, 6392 The Airport, 6393 The Big Rig Truck Stop, 4030 The Cargo Ship, 6385 The Fire Station, 6379 The Riding Stable, 6386 The Police Station, 6380 The Hospital, and 3395 The Race Track. I want to add the train station to this list, but that along with the train and another train station in yellow bricks were not included. At first I thought trains were in a different section and not part of Lego City, but I see the monorail set from 1990 along with more modern train stations that were released later. Was this an oversight or were train sets classified as something else back in the early days?
At 40:05 was the first LEGO set I bought at Legoland California for my birthday. I was eight years old and already had the rest of the Space Port sets, the memories.
That's a huge video. Nice work
def bring'n back all the FEELS! had a bunch of these sets as a child ❤
Hour and a half looking an old LEGO sets... and man I'm full of nostalgia. Thank you for this! :)
80's was my childhood. What I've got then and remember are: 6627, 6365, 6382, 6680, 6362, 6608, 6374 (one of my best memories to this...), 6384 (and this...), 6695, 6380, 6349.
Always wanted that damn black truck with helicopter, but never got one (6357)! :D
the 2003-2007 sets give so much nostalgia of building these with my dad ❤️
35:20 my first lego set. I was 4
2006 City airport was my last set when I was 11. It was my christmas gift and I remember waking up so early to play 😭
When u watch this and u think: "Damn, l had a shit ton of LEGO sets"
For someone who got their first lego city set in 2004 when I was 3 years old, and how I'm still into it and collecting to this day, this video hit me hard
Got my first 2 sets in 2005 and still collecting..
Man I really need to go thru my old Lego again.
15:50 Xmas 1988 and my first set from Santa 🎅🏻. Build so many times that pieces stopped holding on to each other. Could build it now with my eyes shut.
50:57 didnt think i could get thrown that far down memory lane by a photo
I had a few LEGO sets growing up but they were mostly out of my family’s price range. Now as a parent I must have purchased my kids close to a hundred LEGO sets. My favorites are food-associated LEGO city sets. I have a little scene set up with the tiny popcorn and hotdog men, the popsicle truck, the pizza truck and the Target exclusive coffee stand. Wanna get the hamburger place that’s on fire soon.
1:05:49 I remember that set my brother made it n gave it to me brings back many memories of playing with it ❤️👍this was one of my first Lego sets!!
This REALLY takes me back!
Look at them cute little old lego smiles :D
30:23 WHOOPS! You have to put me together.
My dad got so many from 80's and 90's when i was 6 or 7 i played with his lego's and the memories are coming back. 🤤
I was not expecting to feel nostalgic.
Awesome vids...... Keep up the good work
5:10 was my first one that I actually kept without destroying

Uh which one, your time stamp is off
Damn i remember that set. My dad bought it for my brother
@@feni-roblox3914 i got it when i was like 2 or 3 years old
14:14 my first lego❤
I found the Res-Q range of sets very appealing but by that time I had already started high school & Lego was seen as a Kid's toy. Looking back I would have loved to have those sets despite being more of Space theme kid.
Amazing idea and video!
Ok the 2005 police station is one of the best city sets and I’m so glad I kept it built
10:35 Im currently constructing that set, the airplane and Heli are done already. I still have those plates with the runway on it.
Those sets between 1995 and 2005 make me very nostalgic, they used so many bright clear plastic parts during that time
Some of these 2007-2014 sets bring back a ton of memories.
2007
2014
We owned (and still own! :-) ) the Riding Stable (6379) and the Holiday Home (6374) with my sister. Enjoyed playing with them sooo much!
I smile every time i see the set i have here ;)
Interesting video keep up the great video
This just goes to show how much better the pirates, castle, and spaces sets were than city In the 90’s. I thought I had several city sets but I really only had a few octan sets from 93/94. You can see a huge shift in quality and detail from 2005 on. The modern era blows my old 90s nostalgia out of the water.
Cool video keep up the good work
ah yes, one of my fav themes. My first 3 sets ( i got them all together as a gift) were from this theme from 2008 and 2009 themes
2008
2009
i love your channel so much
26:23 was my dads LEGO set. He gave it to me a long time ago. Unfortunately, it’s in terrible condition but I’m trying to fix it
Prachtig, ik ben zelf gek op Lego vanaf de eind jaren 70 tot nu.
Ben zelf van 1973 en speel er nu nog mee, tevens ook onze zoon van 15 is er volop mee bezig ❤️❤️👍👍👌👌
The nostalgia is very strong in this video
And then I remembered how Spoiled I was from '79-'85 and recognising 95% of the sets shown in this video over that period... I almost had them all.. It is so strange to see.. this one I had, this one I had, this one I had... just crazy..! But certainly good times, I build so much, Lego was and is awesome.. I even build Transformers in the '80s at some point.. I had so much Lego..
Thanks man for the video..!
It is actually funny to see Dutch theamed Lego sets like ANWB and Shell.. I actually thought they were different for every country but it seemed they are the standard sets..
1:13:05 I remember when i get this from my mother!!! I really wanted an aeroplane and she bought this for me❤❤
:) wow that’s nice
Christmas vibes from 2016
The old sets have charm to them they bring me nostalgia
nice video!!
I love your videos
81-85 for the stuff I played with and then 2015 for the sets I bought for my own kids. Nice memories. Also nice music at 13:11 where is that from?
5:05 6364, My first ever lego set. My dad bought it for my 6th birthday! I still have the pieces of that one. LOL all of the lego pieces are in one large box today.
Hey I love your vids
I realized that the reason I’m not “good” at Lego isn’t because I’m dumb, but rather because there’s THOUSANDS of different types of pieces and it overwhelms my ADHD brain. (Born in 2001, started playing with Lego in 2011)
6541 and 6542 were the two sets I always wanted more than anything when I was a kid.
Tbh I’m not surprised by how many city sets there are
1:00:33 I really liked that one
I remember When me and my bro watched this set from lego magazine and we were like:" wow, we're never gonna get it. Lets build it with our legos? "
don’t say legos say LEGO bricks
I guess it does not matter but say LEGO brick
That is my biggest and proboly all time favorite lego city set
rare
Pretty nostalgic video. I still have some of those sets from -79 and on wards. -82 blue cargo boat was one of my favorites. It came with that black weight that kept the boat up right when you put it in water :P And -83 gas station was the first road piece I got. And because I had couple of the cars/trucks too, I had to get more road pieces naturally :D Think most of the pieces from all those sets are still in working condition, tucked away in my parents attic.
And damn that -84 transport semi! That was my Knight Rider-wannabe truck... :'P Not to mention how that -85 yellow helicopter evolved into something more combat orientated... good days =)
How old are you
