I just love how +Produce Like A Pro has clearly so much experience, but yet is still like a little kid in a sweetshop! So nice to see that pure passion and enthusiasm.
Hi +Mr Zarlton Thanks very much!! Yes I am blessed to be able to do this for a living!! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
The young man knows what he is doing, which is great. This is one of the lower-key interviews that you have done, by that I mean very casual.. Good all 'rounder, this one...
That's Amazing Warren. I remember watching this video as a subscriber and here we are again.... yt algorithm decided to propose this video another time. Brings back memories
Hi +Gary Alan Thankyou for commenting. I am truly blessed and very fortunate to work in the music industry. I look forward every day to being able to record and work with all these immensely talented people I get to work with! I still work 12-15 hours a day at least 6 sometimes 7 days a week and after all of the good fortune and hard work I've put in I really felt like I should give back and try and help all of us in the musical community! I deliberately don't put ads on my videos and freely encourage us all to share our journeys and help one another. Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
+Produce Like A Pro I understand. I have also been there and done that. I spent my whole life doing what you are into. I started in 1965. I am jealous and I miss it all. :-)
Hi +Gary Alan Thank for your honesty! I appreciate it! Yes this is all I know, it's been 28 years now and it's been a long slow journey! I am glad that it's taken me a long time to get here because I truly appreciate what I have and I am able to feed my family! I sincerely encourage you to get back into it and make music!! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Check the Big Bad Sound studio tour with Warren Huart and Zachary Fisher. Let me know what you think! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Boy nice set up . I used to have the same OTARI when I had my little recording set up in the 90's. Then 97 got out of music all together. I still love the sound of it . +4 machine. Thx for sharing.
These videos are some of my favorites of yours. Seeing what other studios are doing and running through gear!!! Love it!!!!! Thanks so much for your videos!!!
@23:23 This is why I love you Warren. It's all about the sound for you. My favorite records of all time sonically speaking are Queen, Beegees, Toto, and Def Leppard. Photograph has to be the best sound recording I've ever heard. It STUNS ME that they got THAT GREAT of a sound for the time and technology they had then. They were all put to tape in roughly the late 70's to early 80's all legit. They got the sound dialed in right from the very get go so when it hit tape it was mostly done. That's totally different than the "record raw and fix it in the mix" mentality we have now. It's a lost art to commit to tape like they did. I'm more daring nowadays and my records are a LOT better because of it. The talent it took to be THAT GREAT, is underestimated even by musicians and sound engineers today. They didn't just get the best sound of all history on the best songs of all time, they also did it on 2 inch reel to reel TAPE! I know I don't have to tell you this but many times they had to bounce everything to open up tracks and pray that they'd mixed everything right because once they bounced the tracks, that was it. They'd adjust for frequency build ups and keep on trucking....layering. I heard Freddy Mercury sang so many background vocals for Bohemian Rhapsody and they bounced so many times that by the time they were done the tape was almost clear, or you could see through it etc. LOL. To sing that well...time after time...and that on key is AMAZING. Years ago I heard Brian May say that Freddie was so talented he could actually sing in and out of phase with himself on purpose for back up vocal parts. So musical, natural and tight. What a talent. No easy comping or melodyne autotune like we do nowadays. They were just hella talented. I love that sound. The Beegee brothers simply stood next to each other and sang off of each other to get those perfectly blended and in tune tight harmonies and vocal double tracks. "How deep is your love" is a perfect example of that....in the late 70's ON TAPE! I think I've made my point. I'm so glad they came up when they did because I wonder how many of those epic recordings and songs would have been MASSACRED in a modern studio. Imagine Whitney Houston in her prime being mixed in a modern studio. I heard a "remastered" version of "I will always love you" and it was so limited to hell that it never bloomed. It didn't sound nearly as strong, big and open and my heart sank. People of the older generation knew what they were trying to do, and the sound, vibe, and personality they got by hitting tape hard was magical. Dare I say it's addictive. Modern recordings don't really get that.. I can't feel them like I feel great analog. The vibe. But with a great hybrid system I think we're getting there. Ask Mutt Lange what he thinks a red light here or there means in the studio and I'll bet serious coin he'd be on the same train as you. Actually.... Have you ever interviewed Mutt? I searched that out and couldn't find anything. Do you think he'd be open to that? THAT WOULD BE EPIC!! Sorry so long...just passionate about music and the best analog records ever, and really appreciate your talents and efforts. Have a marvelous day. =)
Zach man what a set up you have, you are killing it with what you have going on. Absolutely love your entire set up!!! Thanx as always Warren for this amazing discovery!!! Sorry I am a little late to the show, wouldn't be me otherwise :-) Willie 🎸🎧✌️
That's awesome! Glad that I get to watch this again haha. This time on video :) Big Bad Sound is one hidden gem. Zach and Jack are great guys and they genuinely love music. Another awesome interview Warren! Cheers!
Hi ***** thanks very much! Zach is awesome and his studio is a real gem!! Thanks for introducing us! Thanks very much for your great comment I really appreciate it! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Very cool studio, it's great to see a smaller studio and the gear they're working with. It would be great to hear a small sound sample of each studio you visit maybe a small snippet of audio in the outro of the video. Either way as always, it was a pleasure to watch. Thanks warren!
Hi Steve Antoniazzi Thanks very much for your great comment I really appreciate it! Yes they have a great selection of equipment and they have a great understanding of how to use it. Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
I love Big Bad Sound LA! I recorded with one of the bands I'm in called MOONSHINE on analog Tape in their studio great sound we got on our first EP! These guys are super friendly and really easy to wrk with. Zach you the man!!!
Hi Justin Bush yes BigBadSoundLA is a great studio! Thanks very much for your great comment I really appreciate it! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
LOL Warren you're like a kid in a candy store! You've got to run around and touch everything! It's really fun to watch you go through these cool studios
Just stumbled accross this vid. Love the enthusiasm. My first formal job in 'Rock n Roll' was building the AC/DC Backline cages for Back in Black tour. Many anecdotes stayed on that tour!
What a great interview. Its awesome to see a lot of Ultimate Support mic stands in his studio. I work for Ultimate Support. I am always checking out who is using our gear. Thanks Warren and Zach for the great tour and interview.
I had a Twin back before I knew better... pulled one of the speakers out. Played the Twin with 1/12. Note: If you do this, pull the spker from the heavy side of the amp :-) Since 1993 its been my 58 deluxe and my 93 Pro Jr in stereo. Only ride one horse a 58 Les Paul special with Seymour Duncan PUs. Neck PU 99.9%. Great video btw.
My brother builds some hairball 1176 kits. He has a stash of original input transformers, you just mount them and wire them into the hairball circuit board. On the vu meter circuit, and the sum and difference circuit run +-.1%, 15 ppm temperature drift resistors. Keeps the meter calibrated, and high accuracy for that one circuit. I'd also change the few carbon composites to military grade metal film by vishay in the feedback loop circuits (all the million ohm and higher ones basically) and the input for noise and less temperature drift. Simple, cheap, upgrades.
You're welcome BigBadSoundLA!! I had a great time, thanks for having me over! I really appreciate it! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Just to add to the comments at 8:45 on the video, Steve Jones' used a 1972 Fender Twin Reverb but with Gauss speakers. I did read somewhere that it was 'liberated' from The Wailers store of instruments left at the Hammersmith Odeon.
Great video! I loved seeing that teisco bass and some of his old equipment. In the future, could you include some information on the computer? It's good to see what amount of RAM and kinds of processors people have. Thanks again Warren!
Hi MrRockandroll12345 Thanks very much for your great comment I really appreciate it! Yes I will definitely find out what computer and RAM etc they have in future, great idea!! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
+Warren Huart, it's great to see the API lunchbox in use there! Since I'm going down that route, I was wondering if there was much audible difference between those LB EQs / compressors / pres and their larger, more power hungry brothers?
Hi Howard Hedger I can only speak from personal experience, I will say that the BAE 73MP 500 series Mic Pre is exactly the same as the 1073. Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Awesome studio, what a lucky dude to have financed that. idk, I didnt see any samples of his work on the website. The live performance he has on youtube sounds..... interesting. Cheers!
Hi +samiegfunk1 Thanks for the great comment! I know a ,to of people who rent the studio out, I know as a studio owner it's hard to get permission from other Producers and Engineers to use their music on your site, that he also probably needs to update it! Haha Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Really tasteful studio! The SSL Sigma summing amp can read automation data if set up correctly in your DAW, such that you can hit it evenly at its operational level and allow the automations to occur within the "super"analogue circuit. Maybe this would make more sense in your scenario, Warren? The Neve 8816 summer, fader pack and USB Total Recall, another option. I personally think passive summing mixers, or even active ones with transformers on every channel are only at their full potential when you take advantage of having a bunch of separate stems in analogue that you can patch a range of outboard to and record the whole chain in a single pass. The sonic differences compared with ITB summing are difficult to form a definitive opinion on, because unless you're working with a two track (as above), the best way to use a summer during mixing is to have it engaged from the beginning and mix into it, rather than just turn it on at the end. The cost to set up a summer that actually can automate in analogue, where there are other benefits not addressed in typical summers, is so high that you'd start to compare it against selling your old SSL and buying an automated one instead! Or hey, if it aint broke ...
Hi Kirsten Monahan thanks for the great insight! I do definitely notice the difference, however I completely understand that someone up and coming will not have ever used a console so I completely understand why they would want to remain in the box. I think Greg Wurth at his studio Patigonai seems to have really figured it! Thanks very much for your kind words I really appreciate it! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Greg Wurth's studio is the perfect embodiment of a hybrid layout - and it's so neat and tidy! Many studios are trending towards such a setup too. You may have heard Ronan Chris Murphy announce that they ditched their console in favour of a no frills hybrid setup? I really enjoyed see him publically demonstrate that pragmatism and not GAS is the best approach. A lot can be said for making the most with what you already have, or even downsizing if your environment loses focus, and as you would put it, "always be recording"!. Really enjoying all your videos, Warren. Keep it up! Cheers
Hi Kirsten Monahan yes agreed Greg's place Rocks! I agree many of us will be moving to a hybrid set up, especially because prices are coming dow and the options are much better now! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
This super nice, cool young man must have started recording in kindergarten to know soooo... much at 25 y/o !!! Geez...would love to record with him, exudes creativity :)
Which mic do you prefer on a Marshall, Vintage 30, 4x12 cabinet playing rock, not metal? The Sennhieser 609 or a Shure 57? Assuming its the 57, when, if at all would you consider using a 609? Great show as always.
Hi +Jak Leyton Great question! My go to is the 57 but I do enjoy using the 609 from time to time, it's a tiny bit smoother! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thanks Warren! I am recording on my lap top via usb right now my only other port is an ethernet port. Is there any way to get an external sound card or converter that will connect to one of these ports. I am limited on my preamps using usb. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Hi John Powley you can use an external interface such as a Focusrite Solo that has it's own built in Mic Pre. Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Warren, great studio tour! Thank you so much for the heads up on the Peluso mics!!! I've decided to get the 22 67LE the U 47 clone. What a price $1800!!!! That's a steal! Also what are your thoughts about mixing with an Audio controller like the Mackie Control Universal Pro as opposed to a mixer like you have? Thanks Again, Cheers! Paul
Would be nice to hear some audio samples of how his hybrid setup sounds hitting tape. There are no audio on the site. Maybe run "Warm" through PT - SSL - Tape.
Warren can you please visit Will Putney, Brian Hood & Carson Slovak.....they do have awesome studios just more oriented towards Metal Core/Djent etc.....their are not many videos about, especially none explainig their studios & gear......?
I've been racking my brain about who intentionally sliced their speaker cone... I want to say Les Paul because he invented everything but I'm pretty sure it was Dave Davies. Randall invented the distortion pedal - when he went to patent it, apparently the patent officer said "Nice design, but it'll distort" ! mmm... yeh exactly! Thanks as always for the great videos, loving the simple yet effective vibe of this studio.
Can someone outline the routing for this set up? A) Microphone -> Pre Amp (in the rack or whatever) -> Tape Machine -> Tape Outs -> Pro Tools -> Pro Tools firewire to SSL which is acting as a controller? -> Pro Tools output on say 2 track to Tape? B) Microphone -> Pre Amp (in the rack or whatever) -> Tape Machine -> Tape Outs -> Pro Tools -> Pro Tools outs into SSL analogue (so just acting with for example 28 XLRs going in, with control automation) -> Master bus -> Tape C) Other? Anyone?
Why not buying Wave bundle has all those plugins and a good computer lot chipper. Everything is digital now so there is no pint to buy all thats stuff in a studio. Thats more for live performance.
Hi +Stev G Thanks for the comment! The console, the outboard equipment and the mics are all necessary to record instruments live! You can definitely mix entirely in-the-box these days without the need for any outboard gear at all! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
+Produce Like A Pro I'm your fan Warren and watch lots of your videos you have probably best tutorials on youtube. Many, many thanks for your help. I started to learn audio engineering from you, like the way you explain every details.
Hi +Ricky Rocky great question! Create a blend that works for you of the music and your voice, add any effects you might want to the vocal. Make the mix something that sounds great and inspires you to sing at your best! I hope that helps! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
A great study who might have it. The only downside is ... painting the poor dead bear on the piano? Perhaps it serves to absorb you record? no sense otherwise ahelluva study might already use for my mixes and compose my music because it has everything and looks fabulous.
Tim Jones "What is this? like a five? five and a half?" erm no it's a dead animal, move on, there are other studios without the dead stuff. (end of video for me)
I had to find the NPR special you spoke of... (I'm obsessive like that)... www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=89705610 Here's the story they did on the Peluso's... fantastic! Great video Warren... keep up the great work!
Produce Like A Pro Thanks for responding! Just teasing. Your videos are so helpful to those of us scrounging for any information on recording. Keep it up.

Good all 'rounder, this one...
Hi +Steve A Thanks very much for your kind words I really appreciate it! Yes great guy! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren

Glad he brought up Chris Squire, huge influence on the music world that man.
Very cool studio, it's great to see a smaller studio and the gear they're working with. It would be great to hear a small sound sample of each studio you visit maybe a small snippet of audio in the outro of the video. Either way as always, it was a pleasure to watch.

Thanks Warren!
Haha thanks so much warren, and thanks for the amazing content!
Hi +Josh Salant Thanks very much for your great comment I really appreciate it!
Thanks Again,
Cheers!
Paul
Hi Paul Schmdit wonderful! I love Peluso Mics!! I really appreciate your kind words! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Would be nice to hear some audio samples of how his hybrid setup sounds hitting tape. There are no audio on the site. Maybe run "Warm" through PT - SSL - Tape.
RM International Thanks, thats such a great idea! Yes, we will definitely get some sound samples up soon!
Hi BigBadSoundLA and RM International great idea! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Warren can you please visit Will Putney, Brian Hood & Carson Slovak.....they do have awesome studios just more oriented towards Metal Core/Djent etc.....their are not many videos about, especially none explainig their studios & gear......?
Zach ‘yeah’ Fisher
Awesome studio!! Reminds me a little bit of mine! Well, mine isnt as nice as that! :)
Hi +Josh Salant yes it's an amazing studio! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Great vid, nice studio
Hi TheOompahRoundabout Thanks very much! I really appreciate it! Have an amazing time recording, many thanks Warren
This guy is cool humble.
You should visit some studios at the 3rd world like Brasil, índia África . You would be shocked by the difficulty we work and make music nice still
I've been racking my brain about who intentionally sliced their speaker cone...
It was Davies. Les Paul may have invented everything but he would never intentionally distort his sound... Not his style.
+smeltnight2002 Actually, I believe Link Wray was the first...
+AudioWonderland Technically he didn't slice it. Just stabbed a pencil into it.
Good 1 fam 🚀
Bro i have a Behringer U-Phoria UMC404HD Audiophile 4x4 audio interface.
Is that good for my home recording unit?

Hi +david diaz Thanks! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
I would love to hear how the shadow hill pre sounds on rap vocals in steel mode.
Can you go and do one of these at Pax-Am studios??? I would die.
Hi +Evan Redsky That's a fantastic idea!!! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
B) Microphone -> Pre Amp (in the rack or whatever) -> Tape Machine -> Tape Outs -> Pro Tools -> Pro Tools outs into SSL analogue (so just acting with for example 28 XLRs going in, with control automation) -> Master bus -> Tape
C) Other?
Hi +Stev G Thanks very much! I really appreciate it! You Rock!! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Cool guy.
Please help,
When I record, what should I hear through the headphone: my voice only, melody only or both???
Thanks for the answer
Hi +Ricky Rocky great question! Create a blend that works for you of the music and your voice, add any effects you might want to the vocal. Make the mix something that sounds great and inspires you to sing at your best! I hope that helps! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Produce Like A Pro Thank you so much. I am a subscriber now.
It really helped. Thanks again
Hi +Ricky Rocky Fantastic! Please let me know how you get on with it! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Produce Like A Pro Sure I will. Thanks a lot. Have a great day.
Hi +Ricky Rocky Great! Have a marvellous day as well!
Hi +Oscar A Yes it's a truly wonderful studio! Thanks very much I really appreciate it! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
what is the name of the podcast
So the chick owns Big Bad Sound! Rad!
Has anyone else noticed the dead bear on the piano?!
Tim Jones "What is this? like a five? five and a half?" erm no it's a dead animal, move on, there are other studios without the dead stuff. (end of video for me)
cool man
