I'm so glad I'm not the only one with a problem around requesting a bunch of net galley books all at once 💀 Currently working on a backlog of 5 of them. Notably, HENRY HENRY by Allen Bratton, Radiant by Brad Gooch ( biography of Keith Haring) Evenings and Weekends by Oisin McKenna, and Perfume and Pain by Anna Dorn. Genuinely loving all of them but wow it's a lot to feel obligated to read them and post coherent reviews.
LOL it’s awful! Sometimes I see a pretty cover and I’m like?! Okay yes?! I’ll do you! But let’s be real, I think it’s a lot better (and financially responsible) to do this than to be in a bookstore and commit crimes by BUYING books we’ll never read haha. Oh! I saw that Keith Haring bio, but then saw it was 512 pages.. 💀 And I just got the new Anna Dorn! Excited to get to it!
I didn’t care for Such a Fun Age. To me it felt like a serious topic (a woman of color being accused of kidnapping a white child) being taken too lightly.
Okay! Glad I wasn’t the only one! I just think there’s an emotional depth that’s lacking to her characters that creates this issue, and with her sophomore novel, not much has changed unfortunately :/
Doesn’t pop as much as your bag!!! You make me want the candy apple red so bad 😭 And yes! The animation with all the fishies in Ponyo is just so mesmerizing and spectacular!
I did my PhD at university of Iowa and even as someone who was very far removed from the writing program, I definitely got the sense that it had a nepotism problem ( •~•) I still think you should go for it if it's always been your dream!!! Iowa city really is like a lil literature bubble
Omg would love to know your experience at Iowa! Also congrats on doing the PHD! That’s a major life achievement! Yes, again, UI, if you are seeing this video and comment, fix your nepo issue and give me a full ride I am literally a literary service to you.
wanted to read Come and Get It (cos of the premise and cute cover too haha) most of the goodreads reviews also say say similar things to what you felt T.T
You posting this now as I am rewatching season 4 of HBO Girls is soooo funny. It might be a sign actually because I was thinking that grad school doesn't look so bad lol. I love that copy of the Little Friend !! Big yes to reading whatever you want :))
Omg throwback! Honestly underrated in comparison to our times now. I think grad school is worth it if you want to buy time in your field of interest! Who wants to deal with the real world?! But lemme tell you grad school at Iowa just isn’t it!!! (But hey Iowa if you’re seeing this, a full ride scholarship would change my thoughts lol). And yes! What are you reading now? :)
It's so good!! And it aged pretty well I have to say.. I am currently reading a book of essays by Edward Said ("From Oslo to Iraq and the Roadmap", it's really good so far. Very insightful) and am also very slowly making my way through Dostoevsky's The Idiot. What about you ?@@nathansnook
Omg your edition of The Little Friend…the spine! That’s what is different than my edition. I do remember that font being too too small. I know, I know. I was in the same place in Sept when I finally read this…my last Tartt. I’ll just say I kept in mind this is her 2nd book…before The Goldfinch. And kept that in context. That made it MORE interesting. She knows how to write about the South, man.
Okay actually I think the spine is just sun-damaged 😭 But it sure does make it interesting ion contrast to the way the book is designed haha. And duly noted! Very interested to get into it!
Im 16% of the way through and it feels like watching sex lives of college girls on hbo. Which i LOVE for like a brain-off show, but ... ill just watch that if I want that. I didnt get up to the relationship yet and that kind of intrigued from the jump?? Idk I just wanna like reid so bad 😭
@@katsfieldnotes Better watched than read bb! I want to like her work and this is also me giving her a second chance, but yeah call me a critic! Hopefully by her next there will be something worth reading! 😤
Beautiful book beautiful bob and you have beautiful skin
