The shorter the race format, the more a weak swimmer is exposed. It’s truly insane Lionel stays in the mix with these short distance specialists. Incredible!!
But this probably the key to him being a better long distance racer. All of the consistent greats the past decade have come from short course.....and that isn't a fluke.
I’d love to be as bad at swimming as Lionel is.

@Trepidati0n that's typical endurance sport progression. Going down in distance and leaving long distance isn't. Also, if the glory and money were the same in short course, many would never leave until they lose their speed to the point that their body makes them move up in distance. That's something that's terribly common in track and field.

I think it looks like Lionel swims with his upper body/head way to high in the water compared to everyone else. I'm not a swimmer but can anyone else comment on that? Could that be a reason why he is so slow in the water?
