    This sort of explanation ideally needs a chart that follows the relationships you're illustrating.

    1st cousin once removed is pretty much like a uncle or aunt only it's your parents cousin instead of their siblings.

    • @DefKiller90
      @DefKiller90 ปีที่แล้ว

      In non European culture our parents cousin is our uncle and aunt their kids is our cousin. European culture a cousin can be different generation or age but still your cousin for a example your grandma's first cousin is your cousin once removed crazy right to us we wouldn't say how are you my cousin to someone old as our grandma we just call them aunty or Nana

    • @josephclegg3562
      @josephclegg3562 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some people do consider a first cousin once removed an uncle or aunt, but that doesn't change anything from being your first cousin once removed.

      They're hard to find after generation 4. People can have the same surname & not be related.

    @3:48 it might actually be helpful if you remake this video with charts to go along with your commentary. I'm already lost and I have a basic understanding of the subject.

    My grandparents had 7 children.. I have tons of cousins

    • @alansun70

      Cousins can be doubled. That's one related on both sides.

    • @josephclegg3562

      You not only have a lot of cousins, but you are a nibbling to 6 of your grandparents' kids.

    So my great grandmother (my moms grandmother) her son (my moms uncle, my great uncle) his son was what to my mom, and he is what to me? In the family he called her aunt and i was told he is my 2nd cousin.

    • @josephclegg3562
      @josephclegg3562 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let's break this down so l can explain it to you.
      First of all, your great-grandmother's son is your mother's great uncle, making him your great, great uncle. Now, his son is your mother's first cousin once removed, making him first cousin twice removed to you.

      With your 2nd cousin 2x removed you share less than 1% of your DNA and with your 3rd cousin 1x removed 0.781%

    This was explained as the children of my first cousin is my second cousin @2:30. I think this is wrong. I think my child of my first cousin is my first cousin once removed.

  • @andrei1971
    @andrei1971 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What is it called if my Grandmother's sibling has a child? Some level of cousin, I presume. We are the same age but not considered the same generation of the family.
    I'm confused.

    • @josephclegg3562
      @josephclegg3562 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Let's break that down so l can explain it to you.
      First of all, your grandmother's sibling is your dad's uncle or aunt if your grandmother is your dad's mom or your mom's uncle or aunt if your grandmother is your mom's mom, making them your great uncle or aunt.
      Now, if your great uncle or aunt had a child, that child would be first cousin to your mom or dad, making them first cousin once removed to you.

      Parent’s first cousin to first cousin’s child= first cousins once removed. Presuming you meant mother’s first cousins. You didn’t specify.

    • @josephclegg3562
      @josephclegg3562 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whatever level of cousin they are to your mother, they would be once removed to you. For example, your mother's first cousin is your first cousin once removed. Her second cousin is your second cousin once removed, and so on.
