The best way to experience Sikkim is through a self driven road-trip and we did just that and here's the first part of my Sikkim travelogue - Bagdogra to Gangtok!
You can book it from the zoomcar app or website but it works out expensive. We also do self-drive car bookings from Siliguri. Let me know if you want to book through us.
@@LimeTrails thanks for the info, also please share me details of your in mail id: planshu92@outlook.com including your contact details so that once my trip plan is confirmed i will contact you.
I am planning to be there at bagdogra on 21st sep let me know how I manage my tour from bagdogra to Darjeeling and then to gangtok. Where I will get selfdriven car. And how much stay at Darjeeling where to stay at budget accomodation. Then to gangtok.
There are many budget stay options in Gangtok. We stayed at Hotel Tashi Delek. It has nice rooms, car park, good views and walking distance from MG road.
Thanks for information. Please let me know hotel or homestay in Gangtok and Darjeeling. What will be room rent per day. Suggest me the hotel or homestay.
We did not require any permit from Siliguri till Gangtok and other places we drove to like Temi tea garden, Namchi, Ravangla, Pelling etc., you don't need any permits for driving within main areas of Sikkim. But you will need a permit for visiting the protected/ restricted areas along the border like Nathula Pass, Tsomo lake etc.
Barely any ghats...roads are good across Sikkim and absolutely safe except for the Pelling to Namchi road via Legship which was a terrible dirt track and landslide prone zone. But there is an alternate route that you can take from Pelling.
Hi Priya, thanks for the nice video. One favour pls can we drive zoom car all over Sikkim with sight seeing, as some blogs state that zoom car commercial yellow plate cars are not allowed for sight seeing in sikkim union issue, we are planning for gangtok, pelling, namchi, Darjeeling with zoom car. Thanks in advance
Hi Arihant, we drove without any issues at all from Siliguri to Gangtok, Temi tea garden, Namchi, Pelling and back to Siliguri. If you see in the video, our zoom car has a black number plate. Union guys probably have a rule against commercial cabs from outside, not with Self driven cars.
There are parking areas at all the sightseeing points. You will have no trouble parking your car anywhere except for M.G.Road. Don't take your car there, walk down if close by.
Hi Priya, thanks for sharing awesome trip!! I have also planned same trip as yours. I am sure you can guide me for selfdrive car. Do we need to take interstate permit from RTO check post while going to Gangtok in ZoomCar. Zoomcar site shows permit duration as 1 day for Sikkim.

@@LimeTrails No. I've not yet set foot to India. But I've read and watched a lot of youtube videos about India generally, and specifically Gangtok Sikkim. The motivation is two of my spiritual teachers were from that part of the world. One came from Chumbi valley in Tibet and one from Gangtok (his original place is Shigatshe near Lhasa in Tibet). Both of them are no longer in this world. But I want to have a feel of the environment in which they had lived and travel between Tibet and Bodhgaya. That is why I am fond of watching videos about the routes between West Bangal and Gangtok/Chumbi valley. I am in Houston, Texas😊
Thanks for sharing that with me...your interest and efforts to discover the land of your spiritual gurus is commendable. I was quite intrigued by all the monasteries I visited while driving around Sikkim. I recently returned from a roadtrip to Ladakh and was fortunate to spend some time at the Thiksey monastery enroute to my hometown manali.
