Suite de La guerre de Troie : Enée-Steve Reeves conduit son peuple dans le Latium où il va fonder Lanuvium, d'où sortira Albe-la-Longue, puis d'Albe, Rome la Ville Eternelle (le plan final des légions prophétisant la grandeur de l'Empire romain est un emprunt à Constantin le Grand, comme évoqué plus haut). De cette adaptation de l'Enéide de Virgile, on n'a gardé que la partie italienne, à l'exclusion du voyage merveilleux et des amours d'Enée et Didon à Carthage.

i love how the actors for turnus and his 2ic are ridding bareback. pretty impressive !

This was a sequel to The Trojan War. A great movie.

This is one of my favorite stories, I'm happy to see that (well at least half of the Aenied) was adapted.
4 scenes, really stick out to me:
1) When Aeneas sees the images of the Trojan War, and it bring back flashbacks of these events. Showing distress and a form of PSTD knowing he can never forget these events.
2) The death of Nisus and Eurayles.
3) When Aeneas and the Trojans go around the battlefield, and seeing all the dead shows how much they have had enough of war.
4) The ending after Aeneas kills Turnus, he takes his helmet and goes back home and just walks, not feeling any sense of pride in winning the fight, but at peace he has somewhere he can call home.

One of the best Steve Reeves films--widescreen and fairly hi-res in this version. Follows the original legend per Virgil's Aeneid rather closely, but with some 1960s touches. Steve Reeves as Aeneas is more of a sensitive New Age guy than the ancients would recognize. He defends his people from the bad guys (led by Gianni Garko as Turnus) only reluctantly, feels badly when the enemy warrior queen Camilla (Liana Orfei) has to be killed, and finally accepts his beautiful Latin princess not as a prize of war but only because true love has struck.

The Italian sword and sandal films from the 1960s are entertaining eye candy, and need to be seen in this kind of quality. The unfair negativity often attributed to these movies is largely due to the shoddy prints that have been circulating for years.
