    Had an early 54 plate one and gave it a Viezu map, Airtec intercooler and Eibach progressive springs. Best bang for buck car I ever owned.... By a country mile. Loads of oomph, and average 50+mpg on mixed driving. Rolling road said 194bhp at 3890 and 338 lb/ft @ 2207rpm

    • @CarswithJamesMosley

      50mpg with mixed driving and just under 200bhp is still pretty good today to be fair!

    Nice video. Very interesting to watch the opinion of someone who's only just jumped into one now for the first time.
    I've had my '06 for 11 years, on 222k miles, and have zero intention of getting rid of it.

      Impressive mileage mate! What did you buy it on? And how is it running now?

      @@CarswithJamesMosley
      Bought it with 75k miles. And still runs brilliant. Kept it mostly standard (except for Eibach springs and Eibach spacers - from Ford as these was an original option) until about 165k miles when I got some upgrades done: exhaust, decat, intercooler, before rolling road remap.
      On the day did find a problem, after installing components, where shouldve seen already seen about 10 bhp increase, we found we had 150bhp. Therefore my car must have been down from original at about 140bhp maybe.
      Once on rolling road, the remap resulted in 185bhp and 385lbft torque, thought the tuner said he was expecting closer to 200hp.
      Anyway,drove away happy and since then found fuel efficiency had increased too.
      The funny thing is just a few months later I wanted to find out why I was down on power in the first place. Turns out my injectors where worn - one really badly and two fairly worn. Got these reconditioned which resulted in even more power. Been thinking about whether I should get the original remap (done with dodgy injectors)... remapped (with reconditioned injectors)!

    • @CarswithJamesMosley
      @CarswithJamesMosley  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joynul wow you've done some serious miles in yours then! I reckon it would be interesting to see if it would map a little better with the new injectors. Definitely feels like it should?

    Ford did a good job with the styling. The diesel was on par with its rivals such as 320d so can't fault it but it's the st220 I've always wanted. My brother used to have the previous generation st200 the v6 sounded amazing

    I really liked mine only did about 8000-10000 miles in 2 years i had it, but it was great. The best parts were the mega torque, great fuel economy and really great suspension and seats. The main downside were the brakes werent good at all.

    Great videos James. For me these things impress mostly on the motorway in the outside lane, especially mapped one's. The torque and pick up is great considering that it's just a 2 litre transit block with a slightly deeper crank offset giving a longer stroke and greater cubic capacity. My ST TDCI is now on 193k, still pulls hard as you like, and currently achieves around 52.5mpg combined including full boost at times😉

    Bought a 2002 ST220 Wagon 3 years ago, as I wanted the sound, exhaust, seats and everything around and there never was a ST TDCI in Germany
    But the wagon is a bit more even in numbers to the saloons here, because my countrymen dont buy saloon style cars only wagons :D

    I’ve had mine since 2014, great all round family car. Might have to go for the V6 next. As I live near the Ulez zone, the Derv isn’t compliant but the Petrol version is. Even though the emissions are a lot higher.

Had two mondeo St's previously, had to get rid of the last one due to engine management light coming off and on and losing power. @@CarswithJamesMosley I love how bmw and ford feel. The ford mondeo st was just fun to drive every single time, I had eibach springs fitted and it would just glide round corners. It had a tuning box fitted ( with no issues) and it was ridiculously torquey. Everything from the feeling of the seats, the old analogue clock on the dash to how the car handled. Again, 330 is also great, but I need to own another mondeo st tdci. Preferably in blue, but would take a magnum grey one if it was right.

    • @CarswithJamesMosley
      @CarswithJamesMosley  ปีที่แล้ว

      Naturally I'm a little biased towards the Ford, but with the Mondeo you get something a little different from the ordinary and it has an ST badge/driving dynamics too. As far as I'm aware they're generally pretty good if taken care of. Just the usual diesel stuff like sticky EGR valves and injectors to watch out for.
