Looks great!! Thank you for sharing your folding/dyeing technique!!
Thank you - and thank you for watching!
So pretty. I love the combo of blue and green.
Thank you! 😊
Awesome job! Great instructional. I'm running off right now to try my hands at this design/method.
Thank you - have fun with it!
I love this one!!
Thank you!
Gracias
There is a diagonal pattern I want to try like this, but with only three colors - blue, teal, and purple, and in that order. How do I do this same thing but with only those three colors and not so many sections? Thanks in advance!
I would start by using a washable marker to divide the shirt into sections so you know where to apply the dye. You can divide the shirt into as many or few sections as you would like. I would apply the colors in the order you want them and repeat until all the sections are filled. If you don't want to do an offset, I would turn the shirt over and repeat the same pattern on the back. If you want an offset, shift the dye colors one space on the back of the shirt.
@@FunEndeavors thanks! I’ll try that! But what kind of marker or whatever do you use so it washes out?
@@christchild37 I use a Crayola brand ultra washable marker.
@@FunEndeavors cool. Thanks!
@@FunEndeavors Would love it if you did a video of this somehow, since I've never tie-dyed before at all.
How many sections did you tie your shirt into? did you do a single color per section of the shirt?
I didn't really section the shirt off. I just started applying color at one end and kept repeating the pattern until I reached the other end. I did stripes of the colors that were about an inch wide. Then when I turned the shirt over, I moved the first color in my pattern to the end and I began the back pattern applying the 2nd color from the front side first so that my colors were offset from the colors on the front. I repeated that pattern of colors all the way down the shirt.
Why did you let it sit for few days? Do you want your shirts completely dry? You wont dye it even its a little damp?
I usually dye my shirts when they are dry. It isn't necessary, you can dye them when they are damp though. It is easier to tell when a shirt is getting well saturated with dye if the shirt is dry. The shirt will wick the dye down into the fibers and you will see a change in the fabric as it gets saturated. A shirt that is still pretty wet will already be saturated with soda ash water and so it is a bit more difficult to get it saturated with dye because the fibers are already full. It is much more noticeable on thick folds like a mandala. If you have ever seen a mandala that someone has dyed that has large white streaks running through it that weren't intentional, that is sometimes the problem.
@@FunEndeavors Thank you so much!
Can u just use 2 or 3 colors instead of that many?
Absolutely! That's the fun thing about tie dyeing - you can get creative and make it your own. There is no wrong way.
