      This is a bit old now (and it was a quick-and-dirty walkthrough in the first place), but we're glad it helped you out! Make sure to subscribe and watch for upcoming Kawai grand videos in the future! (:

    Loved the GL-40 from the beginning and is my favorite so far from the bunch.

      Great pick! We'll update our demo of the GL-40 someday so you can enjoy a better recording of it. Thanks for subscribing! 🙂 --Drew, 👪🎹

    Please, do tune all the piano's firts

    • @familypianoco
      @familypianoco  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha will do, sorry about that! This video was shot at the beginning of the COVID lockdown so we couldn't have techs come in to tune for us. Figured we'd get something up though since we were going to have to shut the store down. Hope the information is still useful.

    Very nice video, I like the gl10. I want to try it in person, I’ll stop by your store

    Thanks for the comparison but it would be even better if you can play exactly same piece with each piano.

      Fair enough! We like to keep our videos entertaining with a variety of music, but there might be away of having one consistent song for our demos and one that always changes. I'll talk to the team about it.

    Thanks for the informative and great demo video. For piano sizes, in generally, is it true that with a smaller room, smaller piano will be more appropriate? Less deafening...

    • @familypianoco
      @familypianoco  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Without getting too complicated, it is possible to have an instrument that's too big for a room. But that's up to your taste. Truthfully, I don't think we've ever been to a person's home for a tuning and heard them ask if we could make their piano quieter. Possible? Yes. Likely? Less than you think.
      PianoBuyer has a great article, "How To Make a Piano Room Sound Grand." It goes in-depth on room acoustics, and I think it's an interesting read. But for more pianists, I wouldn't recommend stressing about it too much. We have a similar article on placement that's more beginner-friendly if you want a "best bang for your buck" version.

    Oh that GL 50 is so hard to listen to - please tune the pianos before you make videos. lol I'm sure it was new and the strings just stretched (as happens with all new pianos), but yikes.

      @familypianoco  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha could have been the case, sorry about that! We filmed this during the lockdown so 1) there were no tuners coming to the stores, and 2) we were trying to give online shoppers a general sense of our inventory. Video is a bit outdated now. Definitely check out our other demos! (:

    Hello. Which one is better? Kawai gl 10 or Kawai k 500?

    • @familypianoco
      @familypianoco  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We don't like saying one piano is better than the other; different instruments are better suited to different needs.
      The GL10 is one of the best baby grand pianos under $20,000. But the K500 is one of the best uprights you can get period.
      I'd steer you toward the GL10 if you can make room for it. But personally, I would myself get a K500 and not feel like I missed out on anything in terms of the benefits of a grand vs upright. Play them yourself to see though!

      Edit: Not too long ago, we uploaded a video about comparing pianos by size. You might find it helpful! th-cam.com/video/yy2dQFIG8UU/w-d-xo.html

    I thought the GL30 sounded better than the GX1. The GX1 sound out of tune ☹️. Should'nt the GX1 be the better piano?

    • @familypianoco
      @familypianoco  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't like to use the word "better" with instruments. It's really up to your own ear and preference and needs. But yes -- the GX line's design and engineering is more "detailed" than the GL series.
      The GX-1 and the GL-30 are the same size so that's a fun comparison to make. And yeah, the majority of people would prefer the GX to the GL in every aspect but cost haha.
      So it's probably the quality of our video that you're hearing. This was a quick one-take shoot done as a response to the COVID lockdowns. We didn't tune every piano beforehand, and we recorded the sound on a phone. Sorry for the poor representation!

    For the Indonesian made GL20/GL10, are the timbers sourced from Indonesia?

    • @familypianoco
      @familypianoco  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We asked Kawai and they said "We source woods from all over the world." So I think they get the right wood for the job, whether it's spruce, mahogany, hardrock maple, or any of the other woods they use. That being said, Indonesia is known for having excellent wood stock, so I imagine there is some locally sourced.

    Camera work is not good. I haven't shown the moment of the explanation.

    • @familypianoco
      @familypianoco  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair enough. This was a "rough and tumble" video we shot at the beginning of COVID lock-downs. We'll be re-shooting this soon, after everything is in tune, with better mics, better camera work, etc.

    Why Kawai always sounds like detuned?

    • @familypianoco
      @familypianoco  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Haha! Might be because not all of them have been tuned recently. We have 293847123894 pianos, and four technicians on staff. We try hard, but some slip. The audio rendering may have something to do with it as well. Phone cameras don't have the best mics. Anyway, we do definitely tune them right before delivery!
