The SE Asian in me recognized that rice dispenser right away. It’s actually a staple in a lot Asian houses, especially when rice is their main dish. I definitely remember having it in my house when I was a kid. We’d buy a sack of rice and we’d pour it inside the dispenser.

When I go to the thrift stores in my city they never seem to have decent electronics sections, most interesting thing I found was a record player that also plays cassettes and an old printing calculator

3m Bookcase games were absolutely a thing. I have a few on my shelf, that were given to me by my father in law who had an extensive collection of those and Avalon Hill's bookcase games. You should also keep your eye out for games by Yaquinto, they published theirs in album/LP gatefold style covers. The counters and rules were in the sleeve, and the gatefold showed the playing board.
I like thriftin'. But stores gettin' more & more inline w/ "eBay pricin'" is makin' many bargains a thing of the past!

we had a rice dispenser that large growing up! it can fit an entire bag of rice in it. The measurements of the levers are serving sizes, not usually cups, since you need less than a cup of dry rice to make 1 cup of cooked rice

Wish my local Goodwill had as big a media section as the ones in your area. It’s big, but their entire media section is just all on one little end cap shelf. DVDs, CDs, video games and all.
Going to Goodwill and looking around is one of my most favorite things. It's always different each visit.

I bet the special part of that DVD player was the VCD part, VCD's were very popular with karaoke over in Japan.
A good chunk of Asia in fact, same for VCD movies, as VHS/Beta did not do as well in their more humid climates, and would start to break down, and mold faster, and the per cost of the media was cheaper too boot.
I think most DVD players have legacy support for MPEG-1 and then VCD, it was just never advertised and hardly a selling point.
@@amerigocosta7452 I have a small collection of VCD anime, and you would be surprised how many DVD, and even Blu-Ray players I've come across over the years that won't play VCD movies, because as DVD got cheaper many companies took that feature out here in the US to save cost since most people here in the US have no idea what a VCD is, and did not get their first disc based movies till DVD.
@@amerigocosta7452 I forgot to mention something, if you want a Blu-Ray player(not 4K UHD) that will play VCD, and even upscale, and zoom them correctly so they look better on a 16:9 HDTV look for Philips models, as I've had good luck with my Philips BDP2900/F7 model I've had for several years I found at a Goodwill.

My parents bought a Beta VCR just like that in 1979. Almost 10 years later, I got a part time job working at a VCR repair shop. The only one of those really old "dinosaurs" I worked on was one I got at Goodwill. I did get it working, but the things are huge.
My parents have a similar rice dispenser in their pantry, it’s not as snazzy with the wood, it’s plastic, but very convenient when you want to cook rice.
Speaking of old board games I found an Uno Deluxe deck from 1978 and it had all the stuff to it including the score pads and pencils
Growing up. My family had the same Rice dispenser in the kitchen. I think every Asian family I knew had one in the house. I used to spend so much time playing with it pouring rice and putting it back.

The computer industry was so much fun back in the late mid/1990's. All the tutorials and instructional software were an amazing mix of weird/quirky/silly, sometimes, dumb, very dumb.

Please note for those curious that although KZON-FM is still around, the frequency with that callsign is currently at 103.9; the version at 101.5 lasted between 1992 and 2016 (going through a number of different format changes in the process) and now is under the KALV-FM moniker.
I definitely want to see more of that internet cd. Especially the history of the internet.
That first goodwill is right next to my house! I've been there probably 100 times the last 2 years, even scored a super Nintendo for $20 like a year back.. good times
In Houston most dvd and games at Goodwill had the discs behind the counter. When I lived there.

I always enjoy Thrifting Time. So very interesting what unique stuff or junk you find in thrift stores. I am looking forward to seeing more these videos in the near future.
I wish I knew how old that Jaguar sewing machine was that you show in the video. Those, as far as I know, aren't sold in the US anymore.
Now that the 'verse is getting back to normal, I can't wait to get back to thrifting/antiquing. These videos have been good fun during the $#!+storm known as 2020. Thx bub.

That was a Fry's tag on the software.
For rice dispenser, last button said continue in Korean. Each number before represent how many cup it can dispense.
Also the karaoke player said Arirang which is a South Korean television network. A Korean person decluttering their home around that area? hehe
I remember watching Video Profesor commercials and thinking it sounded like he was *begging* for people to buy his product. My brother and I used to joke that his wife threw him out and he was poor and homeless. But he had invented Video Professor and was begging for you to "try his product", so he could get his life back to normal.

So let me get this straight, this video professor series is just bundled advertisements on a disc, and you have to PAY to get the privilege of watching ads on your own PC? That sounds like the worst product ever!!

I did a quick google search I think Nikko still makes the rice containers?! Don't know that I'm in the market for one that holds *that* much, but neat to see anyway. had a good laugh at the bonus segment with that 'how to use PCs' Video Professor thing, LOL! (can't wait for that in-depth review, haha!!) love the videos keep up the great work!!

100% right on Sauder and Kmart. I can't tell you how much Sauder furniture I sold while working there. Surprisingly sturdy for how cheap it was.
My dad gave me his Heroes Happen Here software kit that he won at a SQL Server convention. I used it a few times before I no longer had a computer capable of running it.
That old adding machine gave me a flashback to visiting my dads office
My first VHS was like that chonky Betamax recorder you showed - it was also a Sony and had the same piano key buttons and top-loading cassette mechanism.

I used to work for the ISP bundled with that Video Professor CD, many years ago. They were a direct competitor to AOL at the time, and like AOL, they were hemorrhaging dialup customers. They also had large call center teams dedicated to kissing up to customers who called in trying to cancel their service. You couldn't pay me enough to do that sort of work again.
Should have been a disclaimer before the video at the end. Haha. First time I legit lost it watching a video of yours. Keep em coming man !

Twixt is actually a pretty good game if you like abstract thinky ones (I’m bad at most of those). If you’re not able to find a boxed copy, it can be played with graph paper and pencils.

This Program taught my Grandpa to use his computer when he was 75.
He got so frustrated with this program he taught himself through trial and error.
He's 94 now and with little to no help, trades stock, does online banking, and email.
Of course the Video Professor comes bundled with the McAfee Virus 😂

There used to be an ABCO foods in that plaza. I also remember getting slices at Islands Pizza.

Hey I used to own the halo 2 steelbook version. The disc unfortunately is the same as the standard game. Art on the disc & all. You just get a dvd extra that is a making of the game special feature. Sorry to disappoint. The steelbook to get for Xbox was doom 3. The steelbook version of the game had doom 1 & 2 on it as well as the 3rd. Unlike the standard version. I remember trading in the standard doom 3 game for the steelbook version back when.

Betamax players are generally collectors items nowadays. Even a beat up player with no cables will fetch a handsome price on eBay all day long.
Post a full video of that learn the internet CD!! That thing is halarious. It'd also be cool to see any other weird 90s or early 2000s software you have.
I bet that Betamax was SUPER expensive when it was new.
