You absolutely hit the nail on the head. I have been bitching about it for at least 4 years. We waited 50 minutes in a 'smaller' line on a Tuesday, at Wonderland, for a place that only sells foot long hotdogs/sausage. At most they had 4 (combined) on the grill. I saw a supervisor walk up, So I asked her, why if there is only 2 options, they don't have at least 25 of each on the grill (lots of room) when there's only 2 options. She then put a total of 8 on the grill. 4 hotdods and 4 sausage. When we got home that night, I cancelled my vacation to Cedar Point. Can't wait for upto 5+ hours, just to eat each day. On a 2 day pass. The unlimited drinks are mostly screwed also. Out of ice at wonderland by 1pm. All drink and food stations closed by 9pm.(other than pizza pizza, which charges $34.99, for an XL cheese pizza that I can get 2 minutes outside park from same company for $9.99) Parks open until 10pm. But guess what! All games and pay food/ice cream/merchandice/treat stores are open until at least 10:30. .
Our family has been to Wonderland 3 times over the years (we come from out of town) and the food is always the biggest complaint here. They have a captive audience trapped in a paid area, you would think you would have some adult food choices to eat here. It really says something when Tim Horton's has the best food selection in the park when outside the park it is really low tier food. Everything else is the same old tired crap any idiot could heat up or deep fry before throwing in a box.
The manager at Big Bear lodge (forget his name) is horrible. I had the dining plan for 2020/2021 and renewed for 2023. I went after Labour Day to use the dining plan and it wouldn't work. The cashier explained that I would need a 2022 dining plan or to pay for my meal. I checked the app and website to purchase the 2022 dining plan because I visit and eat enough where it would still be worth it to get the 2022 dining plan for 2 months instead of paying for each meal. But, the 2022 dining plan is not available for purchase anymore. So the manager came over and I explained the situation to him and his response was there is nothing we can do you must pay for the meal. So I explained it again, saying I will buy the dining plan, but it makes no sense to pay for a single meal because I visit every week. He then said you either pay and get food or I don't pay and don't get food. So I left the food there and walked away. I have been going to the park for 25 years and never experienced something like this. Wonderland should be ashamed that they let these people work here.
Fr. Took 2 hours to get a sausage… 1 worker was cooking them to order while there was like 100 people in line instead of throwing on a bunch on to the grill… and just everywhere they are slow af and the food isn’t that good… Even if there’s like 5 people in front of you they still take an hour to serve you… Cedar points food service is incredible. The food is amazing and you get your food in minutes when a place is fully packed… wonderland needs to be like that…
I've been to other Cedar Fair parks and their food service and selections (and also size servings, meal plan selections) are much better. Wonderland should take note on their sister parks.
What I find strange is that we went to Cedar Point this summer and their food service is so much better. They are both Cedar Fair properties, how is their management/leadership is not trained with same philosophy? Shouldn't their overall SOPs be the same? Wonderland could make so much more money in food if they fixed their issues.
This is so true...Canada's Wonderland's food service has been really bad for a long time, and compared to both Cedar Point and King's Island where they are run so much better, it's just weird the difference in quality of food and service.
You hit the nail on the head for so many things that’s wrong with the food department. Agree! We were there 4 days in August. So disorganized. This is the reason we probably won’t get the meal plan for 2023, we would rather eat our own food in the parking lot
I’m not saying their food is as good as other Cedar fair parks, but they got a few good options with the dining plan like Manchu wok, pizza pizza, roadside chicken, quesadilla, backlot Café. I wish they added poutine to the dining plan though. it’s soooo stupid that the macncheese is on the dining plan when you can get it in the same spots as poutine for the same price!

I never noticed this, since I don't really order food at Canada's Wonderland, but the examples comparing the food department and rides department really stuck to me, because I worked rides all the time. We had amazing team leaders and area supervisors that were constantly keeping us in check, and they did everything they can to ensure operators and attendants were on their A-game. And yes, Heather Hill, whom I have also seen many times and I worked with her once, she is fantastic at her job, and kudos to her for her leadership, one of the best area supervisors at Canada's Wonderland. The amazing people in rides is what made me motivated to ensure good capacity, and I wish it was the same for food at the park. And honestly I agree with the other point you made: you have Cedar Fair pouring this huge investment in food in the park, and these supervisors who do nothing are ruining what Cedar Fair's vision was with that investment. This restaurant looks insanely beautiful and the food has lots of potential, but is the food department going to live up to that reputation? If you're there to do your job, DO IT PROPERLY, AND STOP THINKING THAT IT'S AN EASY WAY FOR YOU TO DICTATE AND EARN YOUR PAYCHECK. There has to be a good return on investment for Cedar Fair with this restaurant, and honestly, those supervisors don't deserve to even work in this business. These employees are working their butts off trying to make a living, and here those supervisors are not even trying to live up to the reputation that I even know that this park lives up to. Everything else about the park is fantastic, but food should be something that they should heavily focus on if it's this much of a mess.
And to think cedar fair headquarters would have been notified of this and send someone to spot what is going one and fire them on the spot and find someone to mange it better
The problem starts at the very top. Ultimately the management in Food Services report to someone (park GM?) and that someone clearly doesn't care enough to notice these issues or fix them. Cedar Fair needs to completely clean house with Wonderland's senior management.
All facts. Why is there over an hour wait to serve food when there is like 3-6 options on the menu???? Make it make sense! And then the food quality has gone down so much the last few years 😭 2015 was the last time I remember the food being great
Hi i have some areas i am very concerned about to Last time I was there Thursday September 1 the bathrooms were not clean. my friend who had to use the family handy capped bathroom she told me the bathroom was very discusting. in fact the tables were dirty to. we were sitting at tables that were dirty a cleaning guy did go by so one of our helpers actually asked him to clean the tables. I have already been planning to go to guest services or making a complaint because to first time i was there the bathrooms were discusting I sat on a toilet that was just a mess. but i been planning to email guest services.
The food there has been going downhill for years! My wife and kids waited in line for food on a busy day while I took my father on Behemoth for his first time. We waited so long in the behemoth line we thought for sure our food would be cold. When we got off the ride and found my wife they were still in line, with 3 people ahead of her.. we only got a few drinks, a hot dog and chicken fingers, and paid almost $60 and still had to wait another 20 minutes for the food. There were no managers in sight. All just kids that looked to be 16 years old running their asses off trying to figure out how to deal with it all. And this was towards the end of the year when you’d assume they’d have had enough time doing it to be better at it. How can they possibly learn in these situations with no managers around?!
Same EXACT thing happens at Knotts Berry Farm at Grizzly Bear restaurant in Camp Snoopy, & their new Pizzeria Restaurant that opened this year. This only happens during the Lunch & Dinner Rush. Coasters on the other hand is a well oiled machine, complete 180 experience in the same park. Mind-blowing.
After watching a bunch of your videos this year, I finally made my first visit in a decade. I was truly shocked at how bad the food was at Wonderland, when Pizza Pizza is the best food option at your expensive Park, then you are in trouble. I’m definitely in no hurry to return.
Food has been terrible for years. I find it has usually been slow all the time to the point where I eat on off hours or get a hot dog cause the line usually moves fast.
We never ate in the park, my parent's made food the night before & when it was time to eat we left the park & sat at the picnic table's that used to be close to where Leviathan is now. Of course this was in the 80's & early 90's, food was made the night before & we packed it in coolers in the car with frozen bottles of water. Don't know if picnic table's are even outside of the park anymore❓
I worked in food at Wonderland back in High School and will say the biggest problem as it gets late in the season is people quit just before or about when school starts because they no longer have the time. For Bar Staff they have to be 18 years or older and you won't find enough 18 year olds left this far along in the season as staff at that age have mostly gone back to University. I will admit Management in food has always been a joke, they keep moving you around when they do have staff shortages without training so your are thrown into new roles, so you are kind of just making things up as you go along or trying to figure things out, that would explain the inconsistency in services. Everything you are saying in this video is true, for the ones who work their its not their fault, mostly we were just students, this was our summer job, it was a lot of fun and the friends we made last a lifetime. But yes it is dysfunctional at management level and it gets especially worse later in the season when they become short staffed.
Went to CW for the first time a month ago and the one place I stopped for food was SO bad. The quality, portion size, price, and customer service was just awful.. even when the restaurant was dead. Took forever to get my food - I got some flatbread thing and it was burnt and tasted like cardboard lmao
Bruh did I make your food, I remember I was making pizzas and wings for the day when the pizza over broke, so one side of the pizza was burnt while the under wasn't even cooked, I messed so many pizzas so some customers had wait a while. I had to rotate the pizza in the oven with my hand, surprised I didn't burn myself
@@mafiabossproductions8686 loool idk man it was at All’s Well Hall & the girl working there recommended it to me 😭 Sorry to hear that tho sounds like a shit show
i really do agree with you, u know i also had problems with food at this park too. Everytime at my home park wonderland, when sometimes i try the burger or pizza, its not fresh & it always hard & cold, When i visited Cedar Point that summer their food there is very better, hot & fresh when i got my first pizza called Hugo's. & I heard that Cedar Point's Hugo's Italian Kitchen is going to Carowinds in 2023, to me i hope in the future that this park could discontinued Pizza-Pizza at Wonderland & rebranded/changed into Hugo's Italian Kitchen just because of Fresher & Better Pizza.
I'm sure some of the food and restaurants in the park are great, but when I was going to Wonderland yearly, the move was always to exit the park for a bit and go across the street for lunch/food. Surely there's a good amount of people who do this based on price alone, It was also just more fun that way.
Yeah, that's what I would do regardless. I think the only time I ate in the park was when we had a funnel cake. And you know how much I love funnel cakes. But that was about 4 years ago.
I couldn't agree with you more. This is something that is now happening in all business. People get into management and stop doing anything and disrespecting there employees and not training them at all. No wonder there are so many problems in all the food industry
Hey B, where can i find out if they are hiring for the 2023 season? I have over 30 years experience in food industry and in management. I get the frustration as many times ive been to the park i often shake my head and my mind goes into action trying to figure out what it is i would do to improve the dept. Anyways if you could let me know i would def apply for upper management in the dept and go from there
By the way I know alot of people are gonna dislike what I'm about to say but I'm gonna try out flight deck just to see if it's as bad as people say it is and if it is then they should definitely remove it and replace it with a much better inverted coaster so that people don't get anymore headaches
Like a lot of people in your comments have said you hate this one on the nail and with the reality of things if you don’t have a good leader how are you supposed to follow and be successful. I hope that you making this video open some people’s eyes and change happens.
Just before watching video and hearing your intro; I have argued a LONG time the rot in Wonderlands food is much higher up than the poor teens working there.
When the restaurant was announced, I thought that finally food selections at the park will improve. But I still have no expectation that the service would be better given the experience that I have this year. Also I want to rant something. Backlot cafe should have a fountain drinks stand inside. It is super inconvenient that I couldn't use my drink plan when I buy food there especially when the coke refresh stations have insanely long lines. Also, I hated that that they removed the burgers at Muskoka Craft Burgers for meal plan selection this year. It is one of the only decent meal plan selection at the park.
"only decent meal plan selection at the park" - Ouch. It's sad when that's probably the reason they removed it. Food has seemingly gone straight to "profit margins" over "quality food will bring in the money"
About time to see some realistic and unbiased content. There is nothing wrong with discussion of downsides as well as upsides. A balanced content is important. Good management should never be asking their staff to do anything they are unwilling to do themselves.
I had the worst experience ever at wonderland this past summer to the point I emailed grace and grace never emailed back. We drove over 1 hour to wonderland and honestly will never do that ride again. Much rather go to Marineland and support the little guy instead them. My both kids have disabilities and the empllyer accused us of defrauding the ticket and ripped our boarding passes up. My both kids were very upset. This is their first time soing something this summer after them loosing their grandpa tragically. We are still waiting for a call back from the management from Aug 17. Shows you where their prioties are. They need to clean up the supervisors and upper management and bring in quality people that will respect their staff but also their customers, especially season pass holders. Brand my kids love you and we ways talked to you when you were at wonderland. You should do a video on us and the bad customer service we faced
It sucks that you have to make a video like this. Sometimes doing the right thing can hurt you. Respect to you for not being afraid to rattle a few cages.
Also, the other CF has such better food and service, like go there and see what they’re doing. Learn from them!! You’re the same company, help each other!
Restaurant looks really cool. Beautiful. This needs to change and fast. When I visit, I'll see what happens. This is kind of alarming. I hope something gets done about this.
IDK what's going at Wonderland. But Ki FnB is off the chain! We were slammed on Friday for Pride n the FT staff was there working along side us. But speaking of CW. Y'all r getting Chief James. He's from KI and he's now the regional cedar Fair chef for six cedar Fair Parks and I think Canada's wonderland is one of them. I'm not sure but they are updating everything at cedar Fair in food and beverage department. They go to try and make it like Kings Island which has won the best food and beverage departments in the chain. I know I've been there a long time
Hey brendon thank you for finally making a video involving the food I agree the training for the food department at Canada’s Wonderland is awful since 2018 CWs food has been crap for years last year was a solid improvement and this year as well but the employees don’t look happy or have very bad customer service food is cooked from my personal experiences this year but portion is awful and service and training is terrible I agree lazy bear 🐻 lodge has so much potential to be the best food venue in the park I hope Canada’s Wonderland fixes things up anyway great video buddy keep it up 😊
As someone that works in foods this season, there is no training for cooks and associates in start of the season, I was kinda thrown in and expected to know how to cook stuff when I didn't. I think there training people now. And where I work there is basically always an executive chef, he helps but at the same time it's kinda difficult because you can't work freely. Some other notes the wage for a line cook is 15.50 and 15.10 for food associates. Barely anyone gets paid more than 18 or more in the park Also I think the person working lazy bear was a guy but idk. Usually when supervisors walk in itsvnot totally there fault because there isn't much they can do but it is annoying when they just stand around not doing anything. Also the main reasons for long lines, personally I think it's the way restaurants are built for example my restaurant can only output a certain amount of each food at a time because of the amount of fryers and overs ect. And from my food associates coworkers they pretty much hate the customers because they're constantly being yeld at or not treat well when they're already under pressure from line and they can't really do anything because they don't make the food.
Anytime I ask the staff at the food or drinks stands a question, no one is able to help me. They are all so friendly and apologetic, but they have no idea what food offerings there are in the park or direct me to the nearest beer cart that's open. If everyone lacks basic knowledge of the food department, it's a management issue. I hope they don't get offended by your video and instead address the problem.
I think for the food department at Canada’s Wonderland, they need to step up their game especially in the new restaurant! They need a team to work there! They have to train new ppl! This is just sad!
having bad service at a restaurant is the new normal now, whether at wonderland or not, they probably lost allot of staff when the young adults went back to school which would add to the problem. Running a restaurant must be more time consuming and require lots more employees then running a coffee shop. We are in a new world now, service now compared to service pre covid is very different.
Rides department; like Starbucks has everything happening right in front of you, not a lot of behind the scenes prep is happening with coffee; maybe the foods department could use a little straightening up but you don't get to see the said managers flipping burgers or scrubbing down trays in the middle of a rush because the grill is not in the view of guests but yunno
The area supervisors and above are never back there doing anything. Can confirm from testimonies from staff complaining to us. They’re on their phones doing nothing at all
End of season my friend. People went back to school, who is going to sign up to work weekends with 8 to go basically? Must be hard as hell to fill staff shortages in there right now.

Kudos for making this video. Hopefully they will listen
Food has been terrible for years. I find it has usually been slow all the time to the point where I eat on off hours or get a hot dog cause the line usually moves fast.
This is why I almost always go outside the park to grab food whenever I visit.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! this is definitely wonderlands biggest problem!
I love your new thumbnail style!
Starbucks?
We never ate in the park, my parent's made food the night before & when it was time to eat we left the park & sat at the picnic table's that used to be close to where Leviathan is now. Of course this was in the 80's & early 90's, food was made the night before & we packed it in coolers in the car with frozen bottles of water. Don't know if picnic table's are even outside of the park anymore❓
There are in the area where you mentioned them, near the entrance and under Leviathan, but I think that's about it.
We still do it for lunch, and we buy Pizza Pizza for the four of us for supper. All other food options are just too expensive for tiny portion sizes.
I wish you ran the department, everything you said is perfect.
I hated working at wonderland at 15. Management sucks. Pay is garbage
As an amusement park Operations Supervisor, and up-and-coming Manager, I took a lot of valuable advice from this video!
@@mafiabossproductions8686 loool idk man it was at All’s Well Hall & the girl working there recommended it to me 😭 Sorry to hear that tho sounds like a shit show
Why don't you upgrade to a mall food court then.
@@coleboyce @cole boyce yo ain't no way I'm pretty sure I made that shit, my bad yo
@@mafiabossproductions8686 lmfao all good bro bro it happens
i really do agree with you, u know i also had problems with food at this park too.
@@TonyKimtheamusementparkfan No I never knew you liked funnel cakes considering I don't know you.
Facts
this is so true i got food poison like 6 times
“At a coffee shop…” doesn’t even mention that is WAS Starbucks lol
I personally ear outside and go back to park. Wonderland food is super overrated and awful!
Anyways if you could let me know i would def apply for upper management in the dept and go from there
They’re actually hiring alrwdy for food upper management
@@AmusementInsiders are the postings on indeed or apply at the park?
Monchu Wok is alright with how fast they go and their portions are pretty ok. So that place for me is the best place in the park to eat.
You could say the end of the world is coming if they don't fix the food at an f'ing theme park...get a grip.
I know I've been there a long time
Sadly he is not coming to CW :-( When I saw Don's announcement I was hopeful that he would be he. The food he made for us at Coasterstock was amazing!
Barely anyone gets paid more than 18 or more in the park
Also I think the person working lazy bear was a guy but idk.
10:02 what were you gonna say?
Wonderland is trash and has been going down hill for ever
Anytime I ask the staff at the food or drinks stands a question, no one is able to help me. They are all so friendly and apologetic, but they have no idea what food offerings there are in the park or direct me to the nearest beer cart that's open. If everyone lacks basic knowledge of the food department, it's a management issue. I hope they don't get offended by your video and instead address the problem.
I think for the food department at Canada’s Wonderland, they need to step up their game especially in the new restaurant! They need a team to work there! They have to train new ppl! This is just sad!
When he says at one of the biggest coffee place, i’m just thinking so, Starbucks or Tim’s which is it. Might as well just tell us.
having bad service at a restaurant is the new normal now, whether at wonderland or not, they probably lost allot of staff when the young adults went back to school which would add to the problem.
Running a restaurant must be more time consuming and require lots more employees then running a coffee shop. We are in a new world now, service now compared to service pre covid is very different.
You realize I’m still a restaurant manager walking by. I’m still experiencing it and running one
They’re on their phones doing nothing at all
The solution they have is create cafeteria crappy fast food restaurants vs healthy fun food options
End of season my friend. People went back to school, who is going to sign up to work weekends with 8 to go basically? Must be hard as hell to fill staff shortages in there right now.

I work in the foods department. And you are sadly mistaken! This is outlandish and hearsay! We take pride in our jobs and you are wrong.
