I may have had ulterior motives in asking if you were covering Queensland. I'm actually a candidate and this video is going to be shared on my candidate page in the morning.
Unsure. There is information from the AEC on British subject eligibility for federal elections but I don't know if that applies to state elections and would require you to contact the Queensland Electoral Commission directly. www.aec.gov.au/enrolling_to_vote/british_subjects.htm
Overseas voting for the Queensland state election can be done via telephone voting, so long as you're still on the electoral roll (which you're removed from if you liver overseas for an extended period of several years). Info can be found here: www.ecq.qld.gov.au/how-to-vote/ways-to-vote
You can enrol in federal elections to be an overseas voter but it's not compulsory. You cannot vote in Queensland elections if you have lived overseas for more than one month.
@@AuspolExplained my understanding is like unlike USA and stuff expats dont have the right to vote in Australia if they do not intend on coming back to Australia, if they intend on returning they can vote outside Australia for up to 6 years and then need to extend but technically you have to declare an intention to return and since i dont intend on returning (although I do love to vote) I would say I should not vote. If Australia had the rule that my voting rights exist even when out of country like America than I would vote but if i dont intend on returning following a strict interpretation of the law then I cannot vote.
Great video! Keep up the great work 👍 What's up with the video description, BTW? "This land was stolen and never ceded. " I mean, it WAS ceded... when we conquered it. Or, rather, colonized it as per Terra Nullius. So maybe stolen isnt the correct word, rather conquered or colonized. And thank God for that. Otherwise, we wouldn't have this great nation 😊
The British didn't conquer it by British law and sovereignty has not been ceded by international law. Terra Nullius is not a real legal thing for Australia. What I said is accurate and a factual comment on both history and contemporary legal understandings of the colonisation of Australia.
Stolen is the correct word and would still apply in the case on conquest or colonisation. It happened but let's not thank god for the atrocities the British inflicted upon Australia to create it.
Bandit Heeler lives there, and his birthday is apparently Oct 25. Voting birthday party! 💙🧡

You could have explained this yourself
yay thanks for the video!! just voted today😆
2:51 was that a Bob Katter reference
It's easy, just put Greens 1, ALP 2 and number all the boxes with the LNP numbered at the end.
ALP 1, Greens 2, then LNP last :)
LNP 1, ALP 2, GRN last!
@@dionmacdonald3369 The LNP are just as crazy
ALP first otherwise you risk the LNP in power.
can British subjects vote in this election?

Only if you were enrolled prior to January 26th 1984. You should already be on the electoral roll if you have been here 40+ years.
I moved overseas like does that mean I can't vote in Australia any more.

Interesting, and I take it voting is still [legally] compulsory for Australian expats? 🤔

It is if you don't use arabic numerals

Nope Terra Nullius was ruled invalid and wasn't the case see Mabo.

HOW TO VOTE IN QUEENSLAND: 1 KATTER, 2 KATTER, 3 KATTER, 4 KATTER, 5 KATTER, 6 KATTER
Note for 2028: The LNP government elected in 2024 will likely have made voting optional preferential so you won't have to number all the boxes. ;)
I just realised you never did one for the NT 🥲
It snuck up on me and I didn't know it was happening until the day before! I'm sorry!
