    I just found out I'm a 4w5 and so I wanted to see what it meant, but I love bright colors and love to wear bright colors and patterns. I like to be in bright big spaces outside and I am usually considered goofy and funny to my friends. So... idk... 🤔😊 Although, I might be a little morbid, now that I think about it. 😳

    This is an extremely accurate video for me. I'm 4w5. I will say though that I have a friend that is a 4w3 and we are quite different in disposition. I'm more maudlin and pensively intense, while she uses her intensity in a more flamboyant exuberant way, I guess I would say.

    I actually thought it was pretty funny, because he described me very well and a lot just made sense. I've gone to great lengths trying to get myself in a bad spot, although I didn't know why exactly i was doing it. I was just what i wanted or felt i needed and deserved the suffering. I'm actually kinda sad that I now am self-aware because of this video, now I don't know if I'll be able to do it again. It was a while ago and I'm starting to get bored by my current situation that otherwise is pretty good. Maybe It's time again soon. I'll make it dramatic. Maybe I'll have something to write songs about then.

      There are 2 types of people when it comes to learning about the 4. The one's that get so offended and the one's that are able to laugh about it.

    He is just as 'mocking' of his own personality as he is everyone else's. That's his....personality. He deals with stuff like this with humour. He doesn't take himself so seriously, and therefore isn't easily offended like he used to be.

    The tragedy and depression of 4 is more like compulsion.

    If you took the test, scored a 4 & this doesn't seem to describe you, it could be you took a bunk test or need to take it a few times, a few days apart, as honestly as possible to see if you continuously score a 4. If you continue to score as a 4, you aren't being honest with yourself while listening to this. I know 4s. 1 is honest with herself and this is hard for her to hear, but she admits it describes her. Dishonest 4s think he's just being a jerk. Also keep in mind, he speaks mostly about each type in this talk about the "unhealthy" part of the typology. I'm a 5, and what he says about 5s makes me want to cry, but it's spot on true about me when I'm actively in my unhealthiness. Narcissists usually don't think they are narcissist. They almost always have another justification for it. I know I do.

      @themoonlightking6849 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I agree. Many 4s would not admit this. Then again maybe not all 4s do feel like this but the vast majority including me probably do.

    This is excellent, and as usual Richard describes all the types very well, without all the lovely bells and whistles that we all want to soothe our poor offended egos. Everything he said describes my '4' sister. In fact my family, especially myself, are so tired of the 'stories' and the drama and the suffering and lamentations - which seems to be much more the arena of the social 4, as my good friend who is a healthy preserving 4 is quite different, that i've needed to keep some space. It does come down to how much we do our own work, with self reflection, observation, meditation and contacting Presence, and really READING the Wisdom of the Enneagram by Russ Hudson and Don Riso and other related books. Recognising and acknowledging the 'ouch' factor is essential. If you or I get offended, then get over it!

    I'm a solid musician 4 (I don't get all the wing stuff - can you have both? Half the time I'd be a 4w3 and the other half I'm 4w5). Checks out. I think the word "narcissism" gets thrown around a bit too liberally (the way he uses it is fine), commenters are confusing narcissism with Narcissistic Personality Disorder, which is different. There's such a thing as "healthy narcissism." Maybe certain types seem similar to different personality disorders, but there isn't a 1-1 correlation (as far as I know-please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong and all 2's are BPD, 4's are HPD, 7's are NPD, etc.).

    Thank you SO much Melissa for sharing these wonderful lectures. I would have loved to be in that room. Many years ago I read 'Die 9 Gesichter der Seele', which he wrote with Andreas Ebert, and it is one of my favorite books. I am so pleased to suddenly meet him here at TH-cam! I hope you or someone else can manage to publish his videos about the rest of the types. I would love to see them! I believe that I am type 4 with a 5 wing, and it is so funny to hear all Richards examples of typical 4 behaviour. "Studied casualness" oh yeah :-) "Perfectionism" oh yeah - my mum is definately type 1 and I think I learned from her - except one day when we were painting the house together and I realized how messy she was with the brushes and paint ... I was so surprised because in that case I was actually more a perfectionist than she was!!!??? 1'es are busy :-) When it comes to aesthetics 4'es are NEVER busy. Got ya' ;-) I also laughed when Richard mentioned the ordinary white t-shirt, because I have litterally always been secretly fascinated by people in jeans and white t-shirts ... you see, it must be so EASY to just put that on every morning - not to speak of going shopping!!! :-) Ha ha ha ... I have often fantasized about that! To a 4 it is of course impossible! So when Richard said that I would be cured the day I actually put that white t-shirt on, ha ha ha... not gonna happen! After I realized that I must be a 4w5 I saw that this might be Bob Dylans type too. I laughed because I have always felt that his music touched something in me in a way that I don't feel with any other music. Today I realized that the colour on my favorite album of his, Blood on the Tracks, is in fact ... MAUVE!!! Ha ha ha :-) It's all perfect. I could go on here, but again: THANK YOU MELISSA! And all the best from the danish girl :-)

    I test between a 4 and a 6. I recognize myself in some of what he says, but I am not really sure. I did live in Japan and felt very at ease...

    Ok. Well, Richard is only teaching the way he was taught. Some get offended by what he says, others don't. It boils down to how much ego is involved. But we are all like that.

    You seem to be a very homophobic person. I believe all types of the enneagram can support and understand gay people.

      Of course everyone can understand. But type 4s always have understood. It's second nature. No questions asked.
