It is no sorrow
In the young the rest for spirit

Sadly she does not know the band or the song name either. She even mentioned it's like the song disappeared and nobody ever heard from it ever again. Creepy but still cool in some way.
This is what I hear… I’m not sold it’s ‘check it in, check it out.’ To me, it really sounds like ‘Let it in, let it out’ at certain times or even a mix of both.

In the young and restless dreamer
Check it in, check it out
But the sun will never shine

I was a musician in Vienna in the 1980's, here are a few thoughts:
- The song itself: it uses a very common chord progression that was repeated on many songs of that time, over and over again. It is what an amateur band of the time in Austria or Germany etc. would likely have used. There is a second part in the song, not really a bridge though, so this sounds like the "flagship" song of some unknown band that never made it. However, the scraped enough money together to pay for a recording studio. That was quite common at the time, and since studios were expensive, it is possible that they recorded two songs only for the front and back of a single. Or, another thing that wasn't uncommon, this could have been their only song, which was released on a sampler LP. If it is the latter, it is probably next to impossible to find it, at least without skimming through endless records and reading the fine print.
- Production quality: it sounds like it was recorded in a proper studio, as opposed to a basement or garage. As for the synth, that might have been there in the studio, for rent. The drums are definitely not top notch, just listen to the hi-hat. The mixing is also not great, which points to the band doing everything themselves (you could hire a sound technician as well... then it would probably sound better).
- Musicians: these are most likely not professionals, at least not anywhere close to high-end. Think about the elaborate guitar solos common in the 1980's, and their guitarist just strums the same notes. It's probably the best he could do. Same with the synth, a hallmark of the 1980's, there is so much more that a professional band could and would have done with this synth.
- Recording technique: one thing that is mentioned in the video is that back then, each track was recorded individually. So I think it is possible that a drummer would not recognize or remember a song after he recorded his part (happened to me too). That is not proof, of course, but something to keep in mind. Sometimes bands would break up before the record was finished.
- NDR1 "Musik für junge Leute": some episodes are up on youtube; their focus seems to have been to play underground music and/or unknown artists. The production quality of most songs was mich higher than for the "mysterious song", as well as the musical complexity.
Since the song was played on radio only once (?), it is possible that someone asked a favor from his or her cousins or friends, or through some other connections (we did that too). Then the band split up, people got real jobs, and they stopped thinking about this song. So it could just be that they haven't watched this video... :)
Imma save this
@@harrieroblox906 No need, but thanx, why you ask?-Beacouse the SAME thing we did in late 80's ,,and early 90's,I have personally played many songs, that were friend's favor,to be on the air,but only once, internet made a big deal about some "unknown song" that was 99.999999999999999% demo,or ,as my vienna colegue said/wrote,there was many song that was "wanna be musicians" but ,soon realize that it is not realistic to achieve, after, they grew up,got a real jobs ,and forgot abou this "misterious sonf" ,but you have to be involved in this closely,as i worked in a radio, that was biggest at the time,80-90',and in the production studio,i think imao, that this is not mistery az all, just look/sound interesting to look at it that way.
P.S. i could post on u tube sone songs,or instrumentals that NEVER got published, and that could become easy"ne mistery song",i have more important things to do in life nowdays, especialy, than seeking demo reels and to put something that only i am alive now to know what is was, imagine that you have seen some movie that never got published, from film school,or rare demo, that (except musicians/acters (both of them) know about that film that might be good, but,at a time of making was below average, and was thrown in to bin,but one copy left, someone played it on tv,finding it interesting for others to se,but with no label,no credit, nothing, folks who made it got in a fight ,split and,as vienna mussician said, got real jobs, and million things, that can never reveal its makers, only guess by guess and there ,you opened a pandora's box,or entered into rabbit hole
Saw a lot of speculation that it was performed by an East German band. Maybe we should let other musicians from the former GDR listen to this song? Ask Flake from Rammstein.
Sorry for my bad English im russian.
I mean, maybe he knows who could do this song. All members of Rammstein were in various GDR bands and probably knew many other bands. Flake seems like someone who could remember something from the deep past.

In the right circumstances this could have been a big hit. It’s certainly no worse than many songs of the period, and better than some that became popular. Shows you how important it was to be produced and promoted by the right people.

This truly IS the most mysterious song on the internet. No other song deserves this title. No other song has had a search this big or this long or this intense, and still not had any sign of being found. Other lostwaves with searches a fraction the size of this were found in a fraction of the time. Even EKT arguably had a smaller size search than this, and was found in under 3 years. Even as the seemingly unfindable songs like LCDA, Back to Bed, and EKT have been knocked out one by one, this song just stands tall above them all. The final boss of lostwave itself. Since “Ulterior Motives” was found from…”media for adults”…I wonder if this song will be found in something equally as unexpected, but on the total opposite demographic…baby media!
Imagine if this song was an unreleased recording for a song segment in something like a low budget, direct to VHS, mixed media bootleg of Sesame Street or Teletubbies or something…like you know how some baby, toddler, preschool, and kindergarten shows sometimes have variety segments that play alongside, in the middle, or after the main story, and those segments typically are related to the topic of the main story? (For instance, Sesame Street’s Letter/Number of the day, or Yo Gabba Gabba having a bunch of skits, mini-stories, and music videos all have something to do with the subject of the main adventure in Gabba Land.)
What if this song was meant for an abstract animated music video segment in some kind of children’s show? (It may actually be related to one of the main shows like Sesame Street, and the submission was either denied, or was accepted, was worked into the episode, but for some reason the segment was cut or the whole episode was pulled before it could air or something.

Part of me doesn't ever want this song to be identified. Something really makes it sound like it's from a different universe, genuinley killer song that has an indescribable aura that I can't help but think would be tarnished if we knew anything more about it.
That bit at 0:14 just reminds me of Vasco Rossi's "T'immagini"... that melody sounds similiar
Vero
È uguale, ma T'immagini è del 1985 mentre questa è stata registrata dalla radio nel 1984

Just imagine you broadcasted a song in the early 80s and it ends up becoming lost media.. A few decades later, it goes viral and people are trying to find the original artist!
I have the feeling that there are WAY more songs out there that are lost in time!
Like "back to bed" , "tention rising in the air" , "Cheer" and a crap ton more
"I have the feeling that there are WAY more songs out there that are lost in time! " How about most small band demo tapes ever made?
@@Assimandeli I can guarantee several bands entire discography is gone. I had a recording studio give out promotional CDs of compilation of songs from bands that used their studio. Some of those songs were pretty damn good. I only got ONE band's album (Redline Defiance)- the studio is closed and legit contacting members of the other bands came up short- they didn't even have their own copies of their music!
What's even worse that there are bangers songs that we don't know of that are lost..
Yes thousands of demo songs on casettes are lost to time or their author isnt known. Some are on youtube, not necessarily on english though
I can't help but notice that the beginning instrumentals of Like The Wind are almost identical to Cutting Crew's 'Died in Your Arms'.
Was trying to think of the song it sounded like and I believe you are right
Imagine a new wave post-punk band having that post-punk new wave sound..
That song has the same or similar chord progressions as TMMS!
That's why the Canadian Guitarist of Cutting Crew took a Cruise to Greece to go find out who made this song in 1984! In case he needs to know, the guitar riff was done by either Yannis Beltakis or Costas Pothoulakis, and its based off of the one from Fra Lippo Lippi's "The inside Veil" song.
It also eerily sounds a bit like Strutter by KISS.
For a demo this is an absolute banger
Just imagine if the original composer made a fully composed song out of this
It has a similar energy as Smells Like Teen Spirit. If there was more work done on it, It probably would’ve gone down as a massive hit of the 80’s.
Meanwhile there is an alternate universe where stuff happened that was the opposite of our own universe, like Digimon being more recognizeable than Pokémon, rich being poor and poor being rich, but most importantly; this masterpiece is a 80s classic while everyone is trying to figure out who wrote The final countdown. And at the very same time, an alternate universe version of me is typing this comment with a Digimon pfp on a final countdown video listing the exact opposite of what I just typed while you and your alternate universe self are reading this comment at the same exact time and place.
Damn. That got me realizing all those things. It hits me in the deep thinking that this might be true.

with this pitch this song sounds happy
I think this song is really happy.
Genuinely one of my favourite songs, regardless of its mysterious origins
Just want to throw this out there for anyone who wants to know, alongside to debunk all the claims the song has supposedly been found.
NOTE: This is all typed from memory, I try my best to keep myself uptodate as much as possible, on the search for the song, most of this should be relatively accurate.
The most recent thing about TMS, discovered, was a band fest competition, in Germany (The location TMS was broadcasted in) of sorts titled "Horfest" that took place in '83, it is believed TMS was recorded there, and then played on the radio at a later time (or something along those lines)
The two most convincing leads, was a Uwe (can't remember the last name) and a song titled "Like the Wind" (The most famous name TMS goes by) that had no band, no artist, or lyrics of any kind attached to it.
Both these leads came out as dead ends, but not the entire Horfest lead, currently, as far as I am aware, there are two massive leads in development
1. Someone got into contact with the Horfest people, and is in the process of listening to each and every single archived tape from 82' - 84' in a attempt to locate the song.
2. In the meanwhile, people have decided to go through and systematically eliminate each and every single band that played in Horfest, around the time of TMS's radio broadcast. In the hopes of either A) Finding teh actual band. B) Finding another lead.
There are other leads that came out of Horfest, can't recall them though, unfortunately.
TL:DR; The song has not been found, but had one of, if not the biggest, breakthrough/lead of all time in the end of July 2024, leads have branched off this lead, and the community is trailblazing the search like never before, TMS, the band, lyrics, are still undiscovered.
If you want to keep up with the serach for TMS, the best place to do it is on the subreddit: www.reddit.com/r/TheMysteriousSong/
It needs more likes! Many should see this comment!
Ooh intriguing! The search continues!
what happened with the horfest lead?
Chances are this song will be found before the end of the year.
@coolguymen-gy7bk Still ongoing, there are still a huge chunk of bands, archival records, and what not all of which are being very carefully handled in respect to all those being "bothered" by this search.
To keep up to date with the searcch, browse the subreddit for a bit, and you'll find them.
I will update this comment soon with all the most recent developments.
These lyrics seem much more accurate. Someone had posted them on another video. The lyrics you have posted seem like nonsense. The audio on the version sounds awesome though.

Let a smile be your companion

The internet finally found one of the lost songs Ulterior Motives and this one still remains a mystery.
One mysterious song found, one more ti go
C'mon if we found Ulterior Motives we can certainly find this one too!
One of my goals in life is to get this song onto a cassette tape and play it while driving an old 80s car in the middle of nowhere very early in the morning, like 2am. I do have other goals but this is one of my favorites.
haha me too ✌🏻
Showed my mom this song and she said she remembered it from a skating rink in the 80s (though there's no way to prove it or any records to do so to my knowledge). Especially with 1986-87 being nearly 4 decades ago)
80s songs are too generic for anyone to remember them
This is better than Ulterior Motives also I'm so happy we have the full version instead of a freaking snippet.
I like how the higher pitch makes it sound more hopeful.
Also, this song for me started off as a curious, lost Cold War era song, full of mystery, to an unofficial anthem about conquering your inner demons (thanks to that Doom II mod, lol) but I like how a song has evoked so many emotions in us, and I hope one day we'll know who was responsible for such an amazing experience.
This version makes me hear “light the way” more than “like/blind the wind”
I guess the band who created this is gone, like the wind
Genuinely the best I’ve heard yet! Good job
Thank you! I'm really glad to hear that!

listening to it at several different speeds on several different "remastered" recordings, I hear it as:
like the wind
you came here running [inferred meaning: your life was off to a (very?) good start]
face the consequence of living [inferred meaning: the consequence of living is dying]
there's no space
there's no tomorrow
there's no sent communication / there's no sense for new division [different recordings make the words sound different]
[inferred meaning 1: you died (no tomorrow) and we can't communicate with each other]
[inferred meaning 2: no space/no time = just now, live in the moment; live in harmony ("no sense for new division"); could also refer to E/W Germany or E/W Berlin divisions]
check it in, check it out
the sun goes down in time [inferred meaning: we all die eventually]
have it all anyway
in the subways of your mind [inferred meaning: regardless, we can imagine a different reality]
like the wind
you're gone in summer [inferred meaning: you died in the prime of life, if spring=youth and winter=elderly]
let a smile be your companion [inferred meaning: rest in peace]
there's no place
has there's no sorrow [that has no sorrow]
hear the young and restless grieving [inferred meaning: nowhere/no one is exempt from the sorrow of death]
check it in, check it out
the sun goes down in time
have it all anyway
in the subways of your mind
[instrumental bridge]
check it in, check it out
the sun goes down in time
have it all anyway
in the subways of your mind
OUTRO
check it in, check it out
it's the summer blues [inferred meaning: because of premature death]
tear it in, tear it out
it's the real you [inferred meaning: you were torn away from your friends/family]
If these really are the lyrics, they're absolutely brilliant.
I hear "no sense for communication"
This isn't pitch corrected properly. You've made a song that's in B minor in C minor. It's not in the correct pitch.
Thank you for actually pointing this out. Nobody else seems to realize this. You can hear the stretched audio artifacts from them changing the pitch but not the length of the song.
Just wanted to say, but it's actually debated, so it might be in his opinion. But I can see where you find some things wrong.
@@Pale_Edits I have no pony, but it seems obvious to me
Not only that, it's as flat as a crepe... no dynamic range in this "remaster", at all. His limiter must have been in the red all the time. People seem to think louder is better...

It does , i think it fits regular show
I really like that song, and whole mystery surrounding it. It's very possible that we'll never know the actual artists behind it, which gives it a very different vibe.
I also think that we will never find the real author.

The voice's pitch changed so drastically, it sounds like Victor Tsoy.

If we could do it for ekt we can do ot for this one
Even if this ends up having the same origin as EKT (I doubt it though), the song is beautiful.
If only this search/ riddle would reach out to the whole world, like radio stations, shows etc.. That way, the chance of finding it would increase dramatically, since at least 1 of the folks from the older generation has to know it. I bet.
instead of 'blind the wind' i hear 'by the way'
therefore i have comeup with an alternate title: 'let it in, let it out'
It's wild, isn't it? Every time I listen to this song, I seem to hear different lyrics.
I think that's yet another reason why the song itself is so mysterious.
Tension rised in the air, this is just a game, everyone probably knows that, we are under the stars, we are making it bravely, we need one love and something like the wind....

Ok, aside from the mysterious nature of this song, can we talk about how genuinely good this song is?

This will break the internet when it gets discovered.
I wonder what would've happened if this song became popular when it aired and whoever wrote it became famous, how much would things have changed? Would a different song have taken it's place as "The most mysterious song on the internet"? Would things be the same as they are now except for this song and it's artists being known? @@Tri-StateGuywell good news I've found evidence to back this up:
I've realized that theme of this song takes place in the middle of a zombie apocalypse that it's described from a 3rd perspective view of a survivor's final day routine.
*"Theres no sent communication"* means that you are alone and on your own. No one is there to help you anymore because they all succumbed to the zombies.
*"Check it in, check it out, but the sun will never shine..."* means you are constantly looking inside and outside of your shelter, and the sun never shines because there's no hope for society to recover and return to normal.
*"-take the consequence of livin."* means that you chose to keep living and took the conseguence of living in fear until the day you die.
*"...hear the young restless screaming..."* describes the roar of the zombies outside your shelter, and that *they've found you.*
And now I definitively know who made it: *Zombie Seattle.* the theme even matches up with the band's name.
@@ElectricoGamez Although my find may be a lead, idk how this could work since the band was made in 2019 and the unknown song was released in 2007. Unless you can contact one of the band members, that would be amazing to see there response.
