This is a very easy track to choreograph a classy and showy AS to. I am glad Kevin took advantage of its various accents to the song to tailor-made an absolutely classy routine for Louise. I love it. 9!

I wish he'd made it more about her, as this was one of her better performances.
Frank Harker It was more about her. I thought he showed her off very well in this routine.
Scd Observer I think there were times, but when he does knee walks while she's standing in the corner, or he does a comic slide while she's dancing, I feel like the attention goes to him.
Loved how she is stepping out of her comfort zone more and more, and acting out the dances even more. Easily a 9
Kevin choreographs to absolute perfection for this show. And he seems to have a gift for bringing confidence to his partners. Very clever chap.
Kevin's choreo is amazing. Louise was sassy and made some excellent lines!

Lovely to see Louise actually looking comfortable for once. There is still something that bothers me about her but this was definitely her best dance - even better than last week. She connected more with the audience.

Her best dance for me. For the first time she looked like she was enjoying herself. The music and choreography really helped a lot in getting me to like this as well.

Funny in the USA DWTS does not have "American Smooth" as a dance option for our celebrities and pros... but I 've sure seen it a lot on SCD. :) I think our "Jazz" is what might be equivalent which covers pretty much everything under the sun, including this "Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire" feel.... Just curious, does Britain have a "British Smooth"? :D
No "British Smooth"! Kevin's and Kellie Bright's 'American Smooth' to "Let's Face The Music and Dance" was really lovely and worth watching.
Do you have the 'Charleston' in DWTS?
American Smooth is one of four dance styles that exist in DanceSport. American Smooth is a specific Ballroom style that includes Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, and Viennese Waltz. Quickstep is not American Smooth style; it belongs to the International Standard group of Ballroom dances (the others are Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, and Viennese Waltz).
The main difference between American Smooth and International Standard is that American Smooth allows for more open figures done out of hold, whereas International Standard requires dances to be in hold at least 80% of the time and limits figures to pretty much the basic syllabus (and the technique is slightly different in American Smooth from what it is in International Standard).
Jazz, by the way, is NOT the same thing as American Smooth and is not one of the dance styles recognized in DanceSport.
We do, but I prefer the ones done on SCD for the most part.

Louise seems really into this, which makes it more fun. It's her best performance.
Kevin seems to outdance her, pulls faces to distract from her, and puts in things that showcase him (pratfalls, knee walks) while she is on her own. It's too bad, as it helped make the dance much messier than it needed to be.
I agree. I love Kevin as a dancer and a teacher, but he's fast becoming SCD's answer to Derek Hough or Mark Ballas in terms of his choreography. I can see why viewers are starting to get annoyed with him.
The knee walk was in line with the accents of the music (the bong bong drum)... I thought that was clever choreography. I agreed his falling bit was a little lame...
Kevin's out danced all his partners - except Frankie Bridge - Susanna Reid's Paso, which received so much praise, was all about Kevin.
But there's also the aspect where this is a big bombastic song, which requires a big bombastic personality. A Big Bombastic personality that Louise doesn't have, even when acting..
***** I can kind of agree Louise is too prim to 'let go'. But is this Kevin's fault? Did you feel he outdances Louise here?

I loved it and I love Kevin's choreography in general, but I thought this was _slightly_ overmarked.
Her frame was a bit off at times but good dance!
Yeah, that's what I thought, too. I think I saw her shoulders come up just a bit early on in the dance.

I thought Kevin showed Louise off very nicely here. A lot of his moves were in response to her, and yes he did knee walks and such but that was one moment throughout the entire performance. I especially loved the lean back kicks Louise did at 0:48. This deserved at least two tens!
Darren Gough danced the foxtrot to this song with Lilia Kopylova in series 3. He was good at ballroom!
Can't help but feel this was overmarked. Not technically amazing, though good performance.

Other way round for me. Quite strong technically, but still needs to sell it more
I seem to be watching a different dance to everyone else. Technically yes this had a lot going for it, but this song is supposed to be sassy and sexy as well as smooth. I appreciate this is supposed to be about the dance rather than the song, but I thought the singer was way too clinical and bluntly I thought much the same of the dance. It was precise but without any sort of performance, let alone passion.
Kit MacLean She always seems awkward to me. I think the judges tend to mark Kevin's choreography more than the actual dance, Len is a big Kevin fan. Kevin is a good dancer, especially this type of stuff, but he never really challenges the contestants, makes it too easy for them. Which in some ways is very clever and definitely helps get his contestants through the competition, he's a good teacher in that sense.

I really think this routine would've benefitted greatly with more showstopping lifts. Many think the grand song doesn't call for outrageous lift, but to me if this routine was toppled with some Janette-level of lift at the end it would've been even more sublime. The first lift is great, the second one is boring as hell and the final one is just a Kellie Bright rehash.
I totally disagree. I am glad Kevin resisted the temptation and turn this into a lift-fest. He's already being accused of being too showey etc. and I think he pitched this routine just about right.
Scd Observer I don't see what the correlation is between Kevin lifting Louise in a grand manner and him being accused as too showey. And actually scratch that, a final lift like Abbey's American Smooth or James Jordan's eternal "over the shoulder" lift would do, just not that Kellie lift. And I don't know about anyone else but I sure as hell won't pay attention to Kevin if that happened, as Louise would be the one being lifted with that gorgeous frock swirling everywhere.
Speaking about Kevin, did you watch the episode? The very first shot of their dancing segment is Kevin's entire face on my screen. Guess some bloke just have to had his spotlight moments still, so glad that the uploaded video cut that. And can I just say how fibbing annoying it was to see Karen and Jo shouting "UNDERMARKED!!!" when Louise was getting her scores? There's supporting your husband/brother and there's just being plain annoyance on the nose, you know. And it's nowhere near the finale either, and I genuinely love Louise. Sigh.

As if I needed another reason to hate everything Clifton related, or even just Clifton adjacent at this point. Will, Ore and Louise all lost my vote the second they we're partnered - but I'm reasonable, I wasn't actively voting against them.
