    These shots are incredible, my friend. You keep one upping with these videos. I wish I was there to help drink some delicious beer with you in such a beautiful country. For the record, it's albatrosessessessess... etc, depending on the amount of albatrossesessessessess... etc (each "ess" is equal to one albatross). Cheers.

      Thank you!! Yeah come on down, mate, you’d love it. And thank you so much for the correction on Albatrossesessessessess.

    I did Doubtful Sound with my parents in 1991 when they visited me while I was temporarily working in NZ (from Canada.) 3 years later we did Milford Sound: my parents, Kiwi husband (Fijian actually) and our 1 1/2 yr old. It poured rain in Milford but we had fantastic waterfalls. I can't honestly decide which I like best - both were fantastic.
    We got a tour into the Power Station too - I seem to recall taking some kind of elevator deep down into the mountains. Did your Doubtful Sound tour include that?
    And happy belated Canada Day!

      Thank you for saying that and the lovely comment! So great to hear you had a fantastic time at both spots. We did not take the tour, I didn't see that as an option but I may have missed it. We got to see a scale replica of it and it really interesting, plus the tour guides talked about it quite a bit but a tour sounds really neat!

    Did they give you the silent moment on Doubtful Sound? It was an extraordinary part of our experience when we travelled there in February this year.

      Yeah they did! We parked in this quiet bay and the captain turned the cruise off and we had about 5 minutes of peaceful silence with the sounds of a distant waterfall and birds chirping. I started thinking these people working on the cruise have one of the best jobs ever…

    Btw pretty much all the power from Manpouri is used to power the aluminum smelter down in Bluff

      Ah interesting!! They did have a very cool model of the power station in the visitor centre, showing how it all looked underground. It’s pretty impressive.

    The first time I visited was a two-day kayaking after a day kayaking Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound was better amazing weather over 30c both days.

    Great video! I've been to both Doubtful and Milford a lot, and while I do love Milford best, Doubtful is quite different scenery and a very different trip. Fiordland is one of my favourite places in NZ - it always felt like I could feel a calmness and almost spirituality there - the land feels alive! (btw, my profile pic is now of me and my Canadian when I was visiting him in Montreal in May, lol - I also flew into Calgary unexpectedly while I was travelling there (flight changes/missed connections) - and oh my, how beautiful your country is - and how incredibly *vast*!)

      Thanks, Trudi! I could not agree with you more, I found Doubtful and Milford to be different experiences (both great, but different). Fiordland National Park is definitely one of our favourite places we've seen so far!
      Oh that is so great to hear, did you have a chance to get out to the mountains when you were in Calgary or were you just stuck at the airport?

    • @trudimclaren4301
      @trudimclaren4301 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately not - I missed my flight in Vancouver, so they sent me to Edmonton, then I missed that connection, then they sent me to Calgary, then Montréal - unexpected tour of the country for an extra day, lol! I got really lucky and flew into Calgary first thing in the morning on a brilliant, sunny day and it was so stunning - definitely going to visit it on purpose next time!

      Haven’t had too many encounters with them thankfully! Although they were pretty bad in the Milford Sound area haha

      @trudimclaren4301 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, Milford Sound is by far the worst for sandflies!

    In a storm the whole sound becomes one vast waterfall. Ive done the trip in both good and bad weather and would recommend a prospective visitor to not be dissuaded by the latter. Glad you enjoyed your trip.
