I always offer to pay my half on dates but while men are always complaining that us women don't do that, they're also always the first to decline because it makes them feel less like a man. Questions like "What are you passionate about?" would be far better because then you can work out whether you are compatible, rather than just testing their knowledge or intelligence. It actually comes across rather disrespectful to do that so blatantly.

If you're working in a high class, busy restaurant you don't have time for someone to blunder around with the cutlery and such. You don't hand-wash dishes anymore. It's a fast paced large machine and it wouldn't make the business any profit having someone have to stand over him and teach him how to do it.
I don't mind paying my own bill as a woman. I always liked being independent. But the way this guy did this was extremely awkward. Totally agree. But it’s weird to sit and calculate the exact cost of what each person got, let’s just go half and half.
Don’t agree with her definition of love, but I think she was just trying to say that you have to be willing to bet on each other and sacrifice some of yourself as well as engaging in a unit instead of having separate budgets. She had a good job as well, if she was a gold digger, she’s an unusual one.

the guy is a bit of an oddball for sure, and it's a screw up to leave your wallet in the car. but it could happen to anyone, and it doesn't mean you're necessarily a terrible person. as for splitting the bill, again he did it in a clumsy way but the basic principle isn't that misguided: she's a single woman who works in finance, she's been guzzling cocktails all night, and is preparing to tell him to get lost; why should he pay for her? why shouldn't she offer to pay for herself?
and while he tried to pay her a compliment, she sat there telegraphing that she was creeped out and made a fairly offensive signal crossing her hand over her throat. she could've just let the guy down gently on national tv.

She even said she is used to paying for herself and had no problem but the way he approached the whole wallet thing was incredibly annoying. If he really left it in the car, couldn’t he have said “Oh, sorry. Let me pop out and get it?” Instead, he sat there waiting for her to offer to pay for the entire night? What kind of date is that? Why do women always have to settle or be the nice ones and “let him down gently”? Assertive women are always considered to be “rude” or “bitchy” meanwhile men who do the same are just “in charge” and “know what they want”. Come on, now.

Imagine that the woman said she'd take care of the bill but wanted the guy to pay for the drinks -- and the guy seemed slighted by having to pay for his drinks, and the male waiter came by and mocked the woman for not picking up the whole bill. But then the woman realised her purse was in the car and both the men laughed at her and disbelieved her and shamed her while she got it.
That would just never happen on any level.

I have to say I agree with him about the love language thing. The rest though...so cringe. I give the waitress props for taking the phone as collateral. Many restaurants hold the waitstaff responsible for paying for dine and dashers.
The guy was unbelievably cheap. Even when he was talking about himself in the beginning he made sure to mention that his “love language” is not buying things for his significant other. Also, let’s be real, what guy goes on a first date and “forgets” his wallet? And if he really did forget it outside, why didn’t he just say “one second” and go get it? He made sure to waste as much time as possible (even saying he’ll wash dishes) so that the girl could eventually pay for him. Unfortunately for him his awkward tactic didn’t work.
Agreed, all he had to do was say “hold on gonna run to my car, don’t worry not dining snd dashing haha!” Or something, instead he purposely makes a simple event into the most awkward thing possible, all in an effort to get her to pay. No guy really forgets his wallet if he’s going on a big fancy date. Glad she didn’t fall for the creeps trap and good on the waitress for calling out the obvious 😹
