Legend. He was on great terms with Bird. Found it necessary to create a sound and rhythmic approach to alto saxophone that departed from Bird’s own revolutionary approach.
I’ve seen and met him over the years. Excruciatingly shy. Also demanding.
This is a typical musical situation for LK. An atonal, impromptu piece. He first did this back in 1949 with the Lennie Tristano group.
