This Declaration of Christmas Peace at Turku has a very long tradition. When it was started, many other European cities had a similar Declaration, but when the years passed, the others stopped it. Later, in 1640, the Swedish text got it's current form. In early 19th century Turku burnt and this text , too. However, the civil servant, who had read it already several times, memorized it by heart. Naturally some small changes might have happened. Later also the Finnish text was added. The occasion is ending with the "Porilaisten marssi", which has a very aggressive and bloody text, indeed. One would probably not expect to hear it in a ceremony, where a peace is declared. But this is Finland, and it explains many things.
