Good analysis of the CRT. Key points are
1. Heating element and thermionic emission of Electrons (boiled off)
2. The Focus ring is negative to the Electrons centered
3 The Anode + to accelerate the Electrons. (Opp charges attract!)
4. X and Y plates to move the Electrons L and R or Up and Down
5. Phosphoric screen to capture the electron beam and light up
Also, you must REMOVE the air from the CRT i.e. create a vacuum to prevent the electrons from being attracted elsewhere.
6 A bar magnet will also deflect the Cathode rays. (fast moving electrons)
