Got to love the word founding 😂😅 so they were found in the bush 😅 someone just stumbled over them 😮 they didn't come from Africa or Asia, they just found them 😮
Would you please make a video with details on raising grass fed longhorns for beef for those of us who raising our own cows to feed our families? When is the best time to butcher?
I like the way you are using the whole animal. How you are raising them and how they are kept track of. With all this Veganism being pushed, i support independent ranchers and farmers to have control and options over their lives and property. We need you. America needs you. We need each other and transparency. God bless you .
@alh9338, Maybe in a few years, your friend in Africa should possibly try crossbreeding Texas Longhorn bulls to Cape Buffalo heifers to see what he can possibly come up with.
@66bigbuds, Brown Swiss would normally be raised for dairying. However, a Texas Longhorn bull mated with Brown Swiss heifers for their first round of calving.
I've been raising longhorns since 2011 in Oregon.. People scoff at them but quite frankly its the BEST beef I've ever eaten.. Along with them being really easy to handle and easy on fences. hides are not an option as no taxidermy does them here and they are shipped off to tan at the tune of 600.00 and up to have it tanned..SAdly as Longhorns have the most beautiful hides... I tried to do one hide myself however and way too much intensive... We have loads of European mounts and one full head neck mount. (cost was 1800.00 for the full head neck mount) People still don't get it here and I don't think ever will.. Which is fine as we are not a production farm.. AND love our longhorns for pets, meat and decoration!..
You were channeling Greg Judy on that grass fed genetics. If you would have done a close up and mention of the bull’s testicular tissues you would have gone full Greg Judy. 😊
Ahhhh! So this explains why my 3 half-longhorn bottle calves, together, eat HALF the "calf muslie" that my half-angus bottle calf does. He's growing like a monster, compared to them, but they're happy with grass and [dried] grassy lucern. All of them are half dairy, but that angus x just LOVES to eat grain!!! I keep thinking that the Longhorn genetics are definitely the ones for tough times! Our two longhorn ladies are SO SOLID on 100% grass. We want to put a Longhorn over our new Murray Grey, even though the offspring won't get horns. In Australia Longhorns are pretty rare, but we're sold on them, too!
Thank you for this info. I have always found the TLH simply beautiful. I just never knew what could be done with them other than being beautiful in our field. ❤
We do registered Longhorns but they are the only cow you can sell everything. We do beef cattle as well but everything we run are registered we sell bulls and heifers and hardly ever sell for market unless say it’s a cow that’s got problems or if one breaks a leg or so had a momma cow break a leg on her calf and left it so we raised it and got it fixed up can selling her registered sold her for food. If a cow ever breaks a leg even tho it heals after you get it set and cast it they aren’t good for breeding and your risking a lot on the cow breaking down over time and weight… but your correct I don’t see them as a no money I personally make more off Longhorns then my beef cows if your going cow for cow… I can get faster money and move more when it comes to beef cattle but I make more per cow with Longhorns because everything is used and worth big money… and we have bucking cattle we can normally make pretty good on but not everyone of them make it to be professional bucking stock
Lease then to rope at $35/hd per month until they aren’t good. Kick them out on grass until they hit 900lbs. Then grind them and sell the beef for $4/lb. Make sure you have good fences. 😂
Ancestors of the Corriente cattle interbred with the cattle of Anglo-Saxon settlers pouring into Texas, and their offspring were the original foundation stock of the Texas Longhorn.
Look on the bright side, if she has an all white bull calf sired by a registered Texas Longhorn bull, and when he gets old enough, he’ll probably help to possibly reintroduce the horned factor into the calves he sires when mating with first calf Charolais heifers.
Enjoyed hearing your vision, patience and strategy presented in a humble, helpful way.
This gives me confidence on trying to get my own herd started and hopefully get my dream going with the 2 heifers I have
Best of luck to you man. Next yr im going to start a longhorn heard also.

Im close to cookville Tn. Seems like longhorns bring more money than most at our local auction barn.

Had a friend in Africa ask about them. Thanks for clearing up a few things. He mitght be intrested in them.
@alh9338,
Maybe in a few years, your friend in Africa should possibly try crossbreeding Texas Longhorn bulls to Cape Buffalo heifers to see what he can possibly come up with.
Hey man. Super useful video. Are you processing the beef on your own? Or are you outsourcing that to a butcher?
We have been told that they are not just leaner but lower on cholesterol like the brown swiss.
@66bigbuds,
Brown Swiss would normally be raised for dairying.

@@LindaCooper-i3f they are being raised for organic beef because of lower cholesterol.
Great video. Just searched around and yeah those longhorn mounts can bring some do re mi.
How much land do you have for these guys? What's the minimum amount of land that i need? Great video! God Bless!
This depends on your location, forage quality, and your adult animal weight.

Are u feeding them anything other than grass and hay for supplements at all?

They are the absolute best! Glad you you love them too! Awesome they found their way to Australia!
this is true,as a texan i would love a shoulder mount of a longhorn for the house
Even if it passed away from common everyday old age?

So you can’t sell everything off the animal unless they are registered if that’s the case then being a newbie you’ll never make a profit
How many acres do you have?

Awesome
I am thinking about Corriente cattle
Ancestors of the Corriente cattle interbred with the cattle of Anglo-Saxon settlers pouring into Texas, and their offspring were the original foundation stock of the Texas Longhorn.
They are genetically the most umodified breed, which is thw most natural imo, and the best
over $3,000 grand on mounts 😮
Depends on if that’s the cost paid to the taxidermist or possibly the auctioneer if buying an antique one.
Bottom line you don’t make real money at a sale barn.
Very true!
Nobody but pen hookers, cow traders, and whoever has what the order buyers want makes real money at a sale barn.
Not because she was named after my mom, Betty is the best looking of all. Those horns face and all white. Come on man!
Look on the bright side, if she has an all white bull calf sired by a registered Texas Longhorn bull, and when he gets old enough, he’ll probably help to possibly reintroduce the horned factor into the calves he sires when mating with first calf Charolais heifers.
Sell you my longhorn
Lot of dog treats
posting a video where you've never even tried the beef was laughable!
He only said he hasn’t tried his own. Not that he hasn’t ever tried grass finished longhorn
The fact that no official breeds with a longhorn base makes me sad. We could’ve done a lot better than these Indicus breeds
I got $575 out of my beautiful Longhorn Heffer at the sale barn. Most beautiful animals on earth and they bring next to nothing.
