This is endlessly fascinating. I absolutely love hearing what great players think about the pieces they play. You can learn so much from them. Thanks to Beethoven for composing this piece of musical perfection.

Simply put, Itzhak Perlman playing this concerto is the reason I play violin and the reason I love classical music. It gave me a deeper love and appreciation for music in general. Thank you for uploading and thank you Mr. Perlman.

Mr. Perlman is the only human being in the world that should I meet him - I would not be able to speak. His music moves me beyond my own person, and he is such an amazing teacher and role model as well. Thank You, Sir for the light you bring to the world.

    Favorited.
I am so immensely happy that I found this video. Mr. Perlman my single greatest inspiration as a (amateur) violinist, but it was in fact his recording of Beethoven's Concerto that inspired me to pick the instrument up in the first place, AND the piece that got me into classical music in general. Without his rendition of it, I would still just be a jazz/funk bass player....not that there's anything wrong with that. And yes I still play both instruments, my sights are now set on cello.

I m 57 and learning violon 3 years. Most of violonist and cellist people were so arrogant to me as i learned on the streets in heidelberg. I wrote a table like: voila cette femme encore est debutante or this woman still is beginner. Now i gave it up because they insulted me many people dont accept if even in a uni town someone learns. Not everyone has chance in his childhood.

@violinland Alas, these comments were not meant for Perlman. They were in responce to a video of Abram Shtern and some how finnished up here. This is not to say that Perlman is one of the greatest living violinists. To many Perlman's sound is the nearest to the old Auer school.

Here's the full performance seen in this video, with Daniel Berenboim conducting the Berlin Philharmonic (1989?): th-cam.com/video/FabL8qnyFOU/w-d-xo.html
This recording by two of my favorite giants of music is so wonderful that I had to buy the CD (yeah, "old school", but the easiest way to enjoy it at will when not enjoying it on TH-cam.) I'm not a musician, just a semi-knowledgeable listener, but this is perhaps my favorite piece of music; sometimes I listen to it 2-3 times in a row during the wee hours, when I should be sleeping! I agree with Maestro Perlman that "there's nowhere to hide" with this concerto, its relative simplicity and transparency is what makes it so beautiful, unlike the pyrotechnics of the later Romantics (which I'm not much of a fan of). "Beethoven didn't write no BS!"

Can anyone play better than this violinist. Such attack, such sound, such a wonderful violin. I after 66 years of being a violinist and being involved with the violin, I rank Abram Shtern as one of the greatest violin players I have ever heard. Abram Shtern like Philip Newman were not exposed to the general listener enough and did not record commercialy.
