Something about the way the dialogue is written makes me feel like Rare was trying SO HARD not to curse. Maybe that's why they made Conker, since they can't make Grunty say fuck.
There's a developer commentary for Conker on TH-cam, and in it they say that part of why Rare games were so good was because they had teams competing with eachother. So the Banjo team and the Conker team were constantly trying to one-up eachother which made both games awesome in different ways.

The animated photos at the ending scene aren't controlled by an AI. They do it by recording a human player's inputs and playing them back. That's how pretty much every retro game did demos, since it's really efficient. Also, Banjo fell off the mountain because it got desynced, probably from this port's increased framerate.
Cutscenes too. All of halo 1 cutscenes are done manually via demos and playback.
I never really considered that allowing players to record demos in DOOM and Quake was devs letting players mess around with their tools, that's pretty rad!
I do wonder though if the credits demos for this compilation were fixed in a patch.
I was wondering what could have caused it, since it was following the proper patterns!
Watching this in mid 2023 and having to hear Vinny talk about both Martinez's retirement and the prospect of authentic sounding AI voices back to back is shocking

I was literally at that point in the video as I read this.
59:00 Siri was done this way, the voice actress said a bunch of phrases for hours to get pretty much every syllable in English to be strung together in other ways.

Two years later and AI voices have gotten incredibly better.

Banjo Kazooie all the way, as much as I love Mario 64’s Boo level. Even with the haunted piano and books, Banjo-Kazooie had the music, environment, enemies and atmosphere nailed down good and flat out outperformed Mario 64, even though both are great levels.
Tbf to vintheny, it's kinda hard to beat this game without doing 100%. The game actively pushes you to strive for it

Rare and Nintendo were almost synonymous for some time. Playing Rare games on a Microsoft console doesn't feel right

For the Dodo thing, yes their meat tasted terrible, but there was a tortoise that was so delicious it's fat could add flavor to anything. So sailors hunted the tortoise to extinction for it's flavor, and hunted Dodo's to extinction because you could literally walk up and grab some without them running off and cook them in the tortoise grease.

Listen to his streams from 2013-ish. He sounded completely miserable.
I believe it's less because he was depressed and more because this was in 2017, which was before he got a better mic. There's a definite difference between 2017 and 2018 concerning his mic quality.

Fantano actually did listen to Reeling from the Rafters in a stream where he was taking song suggestions. He listened to like 20 seconds before turning it off and chastising the person who'd suggested it for plugging their friend's music without thinking about the level of quality that was acceptable on the channel. Whoa whoa whoooooa, seriously? When did this happened? I know the needle drop can be critical sometimes but, over someone just sharing some music that he assumed to be their friend's? Like what is the context of this? Was it during a time where you weren't supposed to suggest music that wasn't from indie bands, or did the person lied about the context of the song they wanted to share. I need a link to this because I feel like there's some context missing to this.

did they change this game? I have a clear memory that when you died you had to collect all the notes again? That's what made alot of the levels hard af.
Yeah the XBLA/Rare Replay version changed that so you don't need to get the notes again if you die. The reason it was that way in the first place in the original, was memory limitations with the save file, an individual flag for each note times 900 would inflate the save file quite a bit. Rare didn't figure out how to make an efficient save file system until later with DK64. Although whats stupid is, that you should have kept your notes if you die, as long as you have lives, and don't leave the level. Why didn't they do this? Extra lives are essentially useless otherwise.
That seasons level! Aww man I loved that level so so much. God I wish these games were available for platforms other than the Microsoft ones.
